Hello Southwest!

My name is Christy Ho and I am your newly elected Bulletin Editor. I am an incoming Senior and previous Catalina Lt. Heyo Southwest!

I am Michaela Williams, your governor, and let me catch you up on what fun I have been having! Before I even talk about work, I’d just like to say that I am so happy to see all of your work and dedication to Key Club. I know at times I don’t say it enough, but I see all of the cool things each of you do and thank you for keeping Southwest Southbest. As we enter the school year, I am planning my Governor’s Project, doing club visits, and unfortunately applying to college. If you are applying too, you know the struggle. Please contact me if you need anything!

Gov Project

This service year Michaela has been working hard to think of the perfect partnership for her Governor’s Project. The Governo’s Project is where our governor, Michaela Williams, chooses a Key Club partner or program to help support and the members of the district assist her with whatever goal is set.

Amazingly, Michaela chose Erica’s Lighthouse! Stay tuned for more which will be posted on Instagram, the website, Remind.

While our term has only a couple of updates fro Board that I would like to share with you. First things first, the Membership Update Center is closed until September 6th. You have two options: send in your dues when it reopens or email memberservices@kiwanis.org and ask them how to email your payments in.

Second, during this term we will be shifting our focus from Sistricts to DistrictPairings as we want to focus more on individual districts and their needs. Third, taskforce applications will be out soon (early October/late September) so if you want to have your voice heard and serve directly with international, keep an eye out for those applications in your Governor’s newsletter. This month, join Key Club in changing the conversation about mental health. Participate in Suicide Prevention Week in partnership with Erikas Lighthouse, September 11-15. We'll post challenges and ways to get your school involved in the mental health and suicide prevention conversation through the Give Voice campaign Lastly, as school years begin and new people flock into your schools, recruit people to join Key Club! Using the resources found at www keyclub org/homecoming-programresources/ , show people just how fun and life changing being a member of Key Club can be! More information for all of these topics can be found in either my Newsletter or on the Key Club International website Again, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me I’d be happy to answer any that you may have

Embership and Service Committee

Goals

As a committee we plan to create a list of resources for clubs to use for promotion, such as through club rushes or engaging new members. We will further enhance and administer monthly service projects for key clubbers. The committee will host and promote K-Komp, a service competition for Key Clubs , and new for this year will be Membership Month, a month dedicated to member recruitment. We’re also planning competitions regarding member percentage growth, and highlighting the promotion of diversity in our membership. Our committee has a lot in store to help boost our Southwest District to be the best!

Our Committee is focused on improving the individual club membership growth throughout the Southwest District by providing proper resources and materials to support them through that process. We will also focus on keeping members engaged with clubs, as member retention has been a looming issue for years and we hope to solve that problem. And, as the name implies, our committee will share many different service opportunities that clubs can take advantage of and would be one of the many ways to keep members engaged within the club and within their communities. Our committee consists of Japen Patel as Committee Chair, Asha Obsiye as Assistant Chair, and the Committee Members: Luke Gibson, Esteban Hinojos, and Gianni Avendano. Something special about our committee is that we are accepting applications from regular Key Club members to join our committee, and will have the opportunity to work alongside us in improving our Southwest District. Applications for such will be available to all when school begins in August.

K Family International Partners and Programs (K-FIPP)

What K-Family and International Partners & Programs do is help the Lt. Governors introduce themselves to their Kiwanis counterparts and build relationships with them. We do presentations on our KCI Partners and Programs. We make webinars that are for the Key Clubbers to present to the Kiwanians. We develop the contests and awards for the GLC recipients and the projects that are focused on KCI partners or charities. Then we set up rotations to make sure that the Key Club Board is always represented at SWD. We also assist with finding a good governors project.

The weekend before August I went to Kiwanis DCON. I spent 4 days setting up, working with fellow executives/ chairs. and planning the rest of the year. I even ran a workshop in front of Kiwanians. called " Kiwanis 101." I got to see my Kiwanis Club there as the host club and I was excited to see it all come together as I saw the behind the scenes in the past months. Although it was fun, I used this weekend as a workweek to organize everything I would be doing for the rest of the year. I had fun and felt very productive by the time it was over.
