Students are offered opportunities to learn leadership skills, both in and out of the classroom. Whether helping others, modeling classroom agreements or serving as a student ambassador, Lower School students learn and practice the skills they need to succeed at Key and in life.
Key School’s Lower School ignites a passion for discovery! Our approach encourages students to ask bold questions, think critically, and collaborate with their peers, all in a fun and dynamic setting. With experiential learning at the heart of our curriculum, children gain confidence, embrace challenges, and cultivate a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
Students engage in a rich curriculum of math, language arts, social studies, science, STEM, Spanish, art, and music. Beyond mastering these subjects, they develop crucial skills such as problem-solving, inquiry, self-advocacy, collaboration, and independent thinking.
Small class sizes and a tight-knit community allow Key teachers to know their students well and tailor learning to their strengths, needs and interests.
Key welcomes students from all backgrounds and experiences. During the formative school years, students are molded into thoughtful listeners, ethical decision-makers and selfassured individuals who are inclusive of others.
Expert faculty lead discipline-focused classes in art, coding, library, Maker Tech, music, outdoor education, physical education, science, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and Spanish.
Flexible grouping models in reading and math ensure tailored challenges, acceleration, and support to drive stronger outcomes for every student.
Students engage in authentic, collaborative, project-based learning opportunities in and out of the classroom.
Weekly “shares” build confident public speakers, preparing students to share their ideas with poise.
Wide-ranging extracurricular activities such as: ambassador leadership training, band, cheer, chess, chorus, dance, environmental club, fun with fitness, soccer, and more!
Key’s STEM program inspires curiosity, fosters critical thinking and cultivates problem-solving through a rigorous, project-based curriculum.
The spiraling structure of the program prepares Lower School students for Key’s rigorous Innovation & Design classes in Middle School and beyond.
Orff Schulwerk Music Program
Key’s music program combines the nationally recognized Orff Schulwerk music program with music literacy and theory. Orff music engages students in an almost daily study of speech, rhythm, instruments, singing, dance, and improvisation.
