The holidays are upon us, and honestly, this is my favourite time of year. There’s just something about the glow of twinkle lights, the smell of fresh greenery, seeing all your friends and family so merry, and of course, curling up with Justin, Leo and Annie to watch holiday movies that just makes my heart so full. This year feels extra special because not only are we celebrating our six-year anniversary at The Jilly Box, but this is also our 25th Jilly Box! To celebrate this milestone, I wanted to capture the magic of that timeless holiday feeling. Think of those magical, old-world holiday scenes straight out of your favourite movies. Every item in this box was chosen with that vision in mind: luxuriously cozy, beautifully made, and full of that familiar magic that makes the holidays feel both grand and wonderfully comforting.

Did You Know?

The Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society is a feminist organization dedicated to creating spaces of safety, strength, and empowerment. They support survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and child abuse through advocacy, prevention, and healing services, ensuring no one has to navigate their journey alone. Over the past year, their team has supported more than 1,600 survivors across the region and responded to over 10,000 calls and emails from individuals and families seeking safety, guidance, and hope. Their impact is profound, helping survivors regain stability, rebuild trust, and reconnect with their communities.

Pink Polar Bear Hot Chocolate

Serves 4

Prep time 5 minutes

Cook time 5 minutes

There’s nothing better than gathering around with a warm mug of hot chocolate after a day in the snow! Since I picked up skiing last year (still can’t believe I finally did it!), my family and I have been spending even more time outside, which is why I wanted to highlight this recipe from the Fraiche Food Fuller Hearts cookbook.

Hot Chocolate:

3 cups (750 mL) unsweetened non-dairy milk

1 can (14 ounces/400 mL) full-fat coconut milk

¼ cup (60 mL) maple syrup

1 teaspoon (5 mL) pure vanilla extract

2 ounces (57 g) white chocolate, roughly chopped

3 full-size (½ ounce/14 g each) red and white

striped candy canes, crushed

Coconut whip, whipped cream, or mini marshmallows, for serving

INGREDIENTS DIRECTIONS

Candy Cane Rimmer

2 tablespoons (30 mL) unsweetened non-dairy milk

2 tablespoons (30 mL) finely crushed candy canes

Make The Hot Chocolate: In a medium saucepan, combine the non-dairy milk, coconut milk, maple syrup, vanilla, white chocolate, and crushed candy canes. Bring to a simmer over low heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate melts and the candy canes dissolve.

Rim The Mugs: Set out two small plates. Add the non-dairy milk to one plate and the crushed candy canes to the other plate. Dip the rim of the mugs first in the milk and then in the candy canes.

Pour the hot chocolate into the rimmed mugs and top with coconut whip, whipped cream, or mini marshmallows.

Nut-free: Use a nut-free non-dairy milk. Vegan: Use dairy-free white chocolate and coconut whip or vegan mini marshmallows.

We created two custom colourways just for The Jilly Box — Forest and Maroon — and I am obsessed with both. Made in South Korea with their signature premium cotton blend, the fabric is lightweight, breathable, and somehow gets even softer with every single wear (no pilling, no shrinkage!). The oversized fit, pockets, and superstretchy waistband make it perfect for lounging at home or running errands.

Ok, this is a BIG deal! I bought my very first Roots hoodie over 20 years ago and yes, I still have it today. Ever since then, I’ve dreamed of collaborating with this iconic Canadian heritage brand, and I can hardly believe it’s finally happened. Pinch me! Together, we created a custom version of the classic Roots Kanga Hoodie in the most gorgeous Merlot shade, exclusively for The Jilly Box. Made with Roots signature ultra-soft premium fleece, it feels perfectly cozy and lived-in from the very first wear, while being durable enough to last for years. Ember Wellness

One of the things I love most about The Jilly Box is getting to share brands that are not only beautiful, but also purposeful and Ember Wellness is exactly that. Their products are proudly made in Canada, with a strong commitment to clean ingredients, sustainability, and timeless self-care. I’m so inspired by the way they create skincare that feels like a daily ritual, while also caring deeply for our planet. I’m so excited to share my discussion with Amanda, the owner and CEO of Ember Wellness so you can learn more about the amazing work she and her team are doing!

For those folks just getting introduced to Ember Wellness, can you tell us a bit about your brand?

We craft simple, yet revolutionary, nourishing skincare and tools for all. We’re a design-led brand that believes in being intentional, taking it slow, and welcoming everyone. Our entire approach is vegan, cruelty-free, and hypoallergenic, creating intentional skin and bodycare that honours the skin’s natural barrier.

What inspired you to start Ember Wellness?

I was always shocked to see so many ‘clean’ beauty brands with lengthy ingredient lists, some even containing toxic additives. Being passionate about minimal design, natural wellness, and production transparency, I wanted to do it differently. After two decades co-founding and building the furiture company Gus* Modern, I made the decision to pursue my passion for skincare and for facilitating others to love the skin they’re in.

Your formulations take a “less-is-more” approach. Why is simplicity in ingredients so important to you?

We believe the term “less is more” is not just a colloquialism, we live it day to day. Our forward-to-basics approach works with only a few essential ingredients in each product. We believe in getting the maximum value out of each ingredient. Our facial oils are made from symbiotic plant oils that work in harmony, our hydrosols (face mists) are made from a single plant based distillate to deliver peak hydration, and our solid beauty bars are made from plant-based ingredients like kokum butter, grapeseed oil, squalane, acmella flower extract, and vitamin C. By removing all the fluff and excess, our concentrated products can shine, delivering effectiveness by way of simplicity.

What was one of your most pivotal moments while building your business?

The most pivotal moment was the day I was using my favourite sculpting tool and thought, why can’t this be both the tool and the product combined?

That’s the day we began the creation of our hero product, The Serum Bar. I didn’t know it yet but that would be the turning point for our business.

We love that your products are made in Canada, can you touch on the importance of that and how you do it?

Thank you! We do too. We make 90% of our products in Quebec, Canada. Our partner labs are some of the best in the industry. We are extremely proud of the relationship we have built with these labs and their commitment to both our mission and their own sustainability goals. Keeping the Canadian dream alive and quietly building the “C-Beauty” revolution is top of our list!

As a Canadian brand, what role does sustainability play in how you source, produce, and package your products?

Sustainability is core to our mission. This thread runs through everything we do and everything we create. From where our raw ingredients are sourced and how (for example, our Argan oil is sourced from a women’s cooperative, our Mica is ethically sourced in Georgia, USA). We’re proud of our solid beauty bars that eliminate unnecessary packaging, waters, and fillers. We like to affectionately call them “the easiest refill system on the planet”!

What does it mean to you to see Ember Wellness featured in The Winter 2025 Jilly Box alongside other Canadian brands?

Being part of The Jilly Box is truly a full circle moment. Since I come from the furniture design world, I have followed Jillian from day 1 and even watching her on The Bachelor, I feel a sort of kinship with her! I think the beauty of it is that everyone does! Her charm and warmth comes through and feels real. What makes her and The Jilly box so special is its authenticity—you can feel it. Since partnering with you all, we’ve seen it in the day to day interactions with Tyler and everyone on your amazing team. Being featured alongside other, mainly female-founded Canadian brands is ALL THAT! One of the beautiful things about starting this business is the network of female founders that we’ve befriended, mutually helping each other. I didn’t know this existed until I started Ember Wellness and I’m so grateful to be a part of this inclusive women-led business community!

HOLIDAY DECORATING

When it comes to decorating for the holidays, my biggest piece of advice is this: don’t overthink it. The most beautiful holiday spaces aren’t perfectly coordinated or straight out of a catalog, they’re layered with memories, hand-medowns, and little touches that feel personal to you and your family.

Here are some of my go-to tips to make your home feel festive, cozy, and effortless this season.

Mix, don’t match.

I love combining old ornaments from my childhood with pieces we’ve picked up along the way, and of course a few new finds. The mix-and-match approach makes everything feel warm and nostalgic instead of too “done.”

Think beyond one use.

One of my favourite tricks is repurposing pieces in unexpected ways. For example, our Shae Champagne Bucket from Be Home isn’t just for bubbles, I’ve styled it with florals and filled it with ornaments as a table centerpiece.

Less clutter, more moments.

It’s easy to go overboard, but a few intentional vignettes go much further than filling every surface. A glowing candle on the mantle, a bowl of ornaments on the coffee table, or a wreath hung above the bed can make a huge impact without overwhelming your space.
