For this journey that we all must take And each must go alone; it’s all a part of the Master’s plan A step on the road to home.

His Life’s Legacy Rev. Dr. Leroy B. Johnson was born the second eldest of twelve children to Lorenzo and Augusta Johnson of Acklins Island, Bahamas on August 23, 1926. His early childhood and educational achievements were obtained in Nassau, Bahamas.

In his quest for a better quality of life, he migrated to the United States to work and build for the future. While in the United States, he met the love of his life, Frances Walker. Shortly after, they were wed in holy matrimony in 1949 and lasted for sixty-two years. From this union, three children were born…Ralph, Delores (preceded him in death), and Lorenzo.

Raised in a Christian family, at a very early age, he accepted Christ as his personal savior. In pursuit of elevating his relationship with God, he was ordained as a Deacon under the leadership of Rev. I. C. Mickins at Mount Olivette Baptist Church.

There he served as Chairman of the Deacons Ministry. As he continued to enhance his Christian journey, he was one of the Co-Founders of Peace Missionary Baptist Church where he served as assistant pastor under the leadership of Rev. T. W. McCloud. God had another calling on his life. Upon transitioning from Peace Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Johnson took pastoral leadership at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Goulds, Florida where he elevated the saints and saved souls. During his pastoral leadership at New Hope, he was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary.

He was a member of the Atlantic Coast Missionary Association. He was President of the Deacons and Ministers Association and served on the Finance Committee.

In addition to holding various positions in a myriad of organizations, Rev. Johnson was very active in the community. The organization that was very dear to his heart was the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World, serving as the Exalted Ruler of Atlas Lodge #308, Assistant Grand Chaplain for the Grand Lodge and a member of the Past Exalted Rulers Council. He was a dedicated and committed member for over fifty years.

In 1989, Rev. Johnson became the founder and owner of the Lakeview Baptist Daycare. As was his nature, he became a great help to families in the community.

Never did he turn away those unable to pay for their children’s daycare. For the years that followed, little ones attended, grew up and returned with their own children to the daycare. In 2010, Lakeview Baptist Daycare moved its physical location and became Lakeview Educational Childcare Center. Rev. Johnson was loved by many for his benevolence and loving care of children and their families.

God dispatched a special team of angels to announce that his season had ended on August 6, 2011. He leaves to celebrate his life’s legacy: his life-long love, wife, Frances Johnson; two daughters-Frances Scarbrough of N.J. and Cynthia Johnson of Freeport, Grand Bahamas; two sons, Ralph Johnson, Sr. (Heather) and Lorenzo Johnson, Sr.; Eleven grandchildren…Eric Thomas (Shannon), Stephanie Wright (Spencer) of NJ, Ralph Johnson, Jr. of GA, Daidisi Pinder, William Pinder III, Nykeisha Hill (Darren) Miami, FL, Rev. We have gone through good times as well as bad, but through it all our love for each other never parted. I want to thank you for our beautiful daughter and sons we’ve raised.

When God called you home on August 6th, you answered His call gracefully. I will always cherish and remember the times we spent together .
