DOMESTIC CRICKET NatWest T20 Blast 2015 Champions, Lancashire Lightning, finished the 2016 campaign strongly with a scintillating victory over Birmingham Bears. Notable highlights included a victory over Yorkshire in a sell-out Red Rose clash. Ultimately the T20 season didn’t see the success of 2015 with the team narrowly missing the quarter final by two points. It was a historic year for women’s cricket in 2016 as Lancashire Thunder took part in the inaugural Kia Super League which was eventually won by Western Storm at the Essex Cricket Ground in August.

The venue has been the home to some of the year’s greatest England cricket moments, hosting the England Vs Pakistan test match in July, which saw England continue their long unbeaten test match performances in the North West. HILTON GARDEN INN The crowning glory of Emirates Old Trafford’s redevelopment will be completed in the summer of 2017 when a brand new 150-bedroom four star Hilton Garden Inn opens its doors at the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club. The hotel, will be operated by LCCC under a franchise arrangement with Hilton Garden Inn. There will be five floors with 85 rooms overlooking the world famous cricket pitch which can be converted to hospitality boxes on matchdays. There will also be a bar, restaurant, fitness centre and a branded coffee shop. Everything is on track to open in the summer of 2017. The growth in the conference and events business at Emirates Old Trafford will be complemented by this superb new hotel enabling the organisation to capitalise on the value and suitability of its stunning venue and grow the off the field business further over the coming years.

THE COURTEENERS One of Manchester’s biggest bands, the Courteeners, will play live at Emirates Old Trafford on Saturday 27 May. Following on from their sold out Heaton Park show and their record breaking seven night run at Manchester O2 Apollo, the band will play a 50,000 capacity hometown gig at Manchester’s Emirates Old Trafford on Saturday 27 May 2017. Supported by The Chartalans, Blossoms and Cabbage, this one-night-only concert is a throwback to the Manchester music scene in what will no doubt be a sell-out event on the bank holiday weekend.
