OBITUARIES ALPHONZA YOUNG Alphonza Luther James Young completed his journey on Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was born on March 28, 1984, in Sumter, to Sharon Wallace. Luther, as many called him, is survived by his mother, Sharon Wallace; daughter, Ayonna Young; son, Kristopher Gregg-Young; sister, Shakeena Wallace; brother, Jamaar Anderson; and godsister, Shamayan Ragin. Luther is also survived by his grandparents, Alphonse and Peggy Young; his nephew, Amare Davis; and four uncles, David Young, James Wallace, Benny (Lurnethia) Wallace and Alphonso Wallace. He also leaves to mourn: three special cousins, Harold Ransome, Micheal Ransome and Billie Van Buren; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Salem Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Lei FergusonWashington, eulogist. Interment will follow in Bradford Cemetery. DAVID HILL David Opey Lee Hill departed this life on Friday, May 8, 2015, at his residence in Sumter. He was born on Nov. 5, 1955, in Sumter County, a son of Athlee Hill-Helton and the late Tessie Lee Hill. Opey was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and last attended in 1976. He was talented and excelled at playing sports and running track. However, his passion and joy was singing. He leaves to cherish fond memories: his beloved mother, Athlee Hill-Helton of whom he was a primary caregiver for the last six years, until his death, and she loved him dearly; stepfather, Freddie Helton; one daughter, Unique McCuthchen of Columbia; three sisters, Marie V. Hill of Columbia, Elease Hill of Baltimore, Maryland, and Brenda Carter of Sumter; three brothers, Albert (Dianne) Hill, Nesbit (Rudean) Hill and Lucious (Juliette) Johns, all of Sumter; six stepsisters, Betty, Carolyn, Cindy, Amanda, Mary and Martha; two stepbrothers, Claude and Perry Helton; best friend, Ricky Ronnie Magazine; special friend, Dorothy Mammy Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Tessie Lee Hill; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his sister, Cynthia E. (Toog) Hill. Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job’s Mortuary. Mr. Hill will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 320 Fulton St., Sumter, with the pastor, the Rev. Lei F. Washington, assisted by the Rev. Darryl Washington. CHARLIE E. POLLARD Charlie Emmanuel Pollard departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 8, 2015, at C.M. Tucker Nursing Home in Columbia. Born on June 12, 1958, in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Ransome and Lula Raysor Pollard. At his middle age in life, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior while in the nursing home. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. Before he became ill, he enjoyed singing, baseball, basketball and football. He was always happy and a fun person.
