DR. KAREL KENNEDY It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Karel Kennedy. Dr. Kennedy will be missed and his passing mourned by family, friends and patients. Dr. Kennedy lived a private life and though his accomplishments were vast, he expressed a KENNEDY strong desire to have his life celebrated in a private way. Consequently, the family will have a private memorial ceremony. Please know that all acts of kindness, expressions of sympathy and especially prayers are sincerely appreciated. Karel was a beloved brother, uncle, physician and lifelong student of science and medicine who died peacefully on Aug. 5, 2016, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. He was born on May 6, 1946, in Greeleyville, to Ben and Susie Kennedy. Dr. Kennedy was a 1963 graduate of C.E. Murray High School in Greeleyville and received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Howard University in Washington, D.C. He completed medical school at Howard University College of Medicine and served his internship at Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, New York, and did residency at Harlem Hospital, New York, New York. Dr. Kennedy was board certified in cardiology and internal medicine. He was a kind and compassionate person and physician who dedicated his professional life to patient care. Karel was generous to a fault. While at Howard University, he was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Alpha Chapter life member. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Susie Kennedy; and brother, former Rep. Kenneth “Ken” Kennedy. He is survived by his siblings, Louise (Glenn) Payne, Castina Kennedy, Ernestine (Lincoln) King, Glen (Cynthia) Kennedy and Deon (Valerie) Kennedy; sister-in-law, Doris Kennedy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ben and Susie Mae Whack Kennedy C.E. Murray High Scholarship Fund. These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
JAMES M. TOUCHBERRY James Mobley “Jimmy” Touchberry, 78, husband of Clara Jolly Touchberry, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born on June 13, 1938, in Florence, he was a son of the late James Carlisle Touchberry and Eula Touchberry. He was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church and the Sumter Masonic Lodge, where he had served as past worshipful master. He retired from B.L. Montague, Custom Metalizing and Merchant Iron Works. Survivors include his wife of 50 years; children, Stephen J. Touchberry of Sumter, Renee T. Bolt (Al) of Highlands, North Carolina, Crys Armbrust, Tammy Wagner (Bill), Brian Touchberry, Robbie Wallace (Linda) of Pataskala, Ohio, and Rusty Wallace (Mona) of Newark, Ohio; grandchildren, Daniel Touchberry, Ryan Touchberry, Jamie Bolt and Allison Bolt; and a sister, Lucille Sowell of Moncks Corner. He was preceded in death by sons, Kenny Touchberry and Marlon Touchberry; and sisters, Eva Poston and Doris Kelly. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Northside Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Holley, the Rev. Jim Johnson and the Rev. Mendle Baker officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Touchberry, Ryan Touchberry, Robbie Wallace, Rusty Wallace, Jamie Bolt and Al Bolt. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of Northside Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive

LILLIAN R. PRINCE Lillian Ruth Prince, 63, entered eternal rest on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. She was born on Feb. 25, 1953, in Sumter, a daughter of the late Simon and Carrie Scott Prince. ESTELLE C. WILDER Estelle Conyers Wilder, 86, widow of Melvin “Doot” Wilder Sr., entered eternal rest on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia. She was born on Oct. 14, 1929, in Clarendon County, a daughter of the late Jim and Rena Conyers. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of her daughter, William and Bettie Jean Logan, 6480 Brakel Lane, Pinewood. ANNIE MAE R. PUGH Annie Mae Ray Pugh, 89, widow of Bernice E. Cribb Sr. and Joseph L. Pugh Jr., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at her residence in Sumter. Mrs. Pugh was born on March 9, 1927, in Georgetown County, a daughter of the late General Marion Ray and Myrtle Elizabeth Russell Ray. She was a member of Bethera True Way Holiness Church. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, greatgrandmother and great-greatgrandmother. She leaves behind: two sons, Dr. Edward Cribb (Linda) of North Carolina and Dr. Robert Cribb (Cindy) of Sumter; two daughters, Ann Denney (James) of Mount Pleasant and Eloise Reynolds (Gordon) of Sumter; 19 grandchildren, Leah, Lori, Scott, Kristin, Chad, Greg, Cathy, Jimmy, Laura, Cheryl, Don, Christina, David, Christy, Mendi, April, Matthew, Dustin and Robert; 58 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind: two brothers, Bobby Ray of Andrews and Frank Ray (Geneva) of Lake City, Florida; and two sisters, Elizabeth Johnson and Betty Goodwin, both of Andrews. She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Mickel Cribb; five brothers, Lethen Ray, David Ray, James “JD” Ray, Don Ray and Dan Ray; and two sisters, Adra Fulton and Ruth Forbes. A Homegoing celebration will be held at 2 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church. Internment will follow in Bethel Cemetery, directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary. McKenzie Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cribb/ Ray family.
JAMES C. ELDRIDGE James Cuttino “Jamie” Eldridge, 63, husband of Lynn Taylor Eldridge, died on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at his home. Born on Sept. 3, 1952, in Sumter, he was a son of the late William Cook Eldridge Sr. and Lucie Anne Cuttino Eldridge. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Comforter, where he was a former member of the Vestry and senior warden. He was formerly employed by Suburban Propane, Russell and Jeffcoat Real Estate, and ERA Wilder Realty. He was also an appraiser for the Sumter County Assessor’s Office. He was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Kiwanis Club for 20 years, and was involved in
the Cursillo Christian Renewal Retreat. Survivors include his wife of 42 years; a son, Matthew James Eldridge of Sumter; sisters-in-law, Cindy Taylor and Mary Taylor Wyatt; and brother-in-law, Doug Taylor. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Cook “Billy” Eldridge Jr. A burial and communion service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. Marcus A. Kaiser Sr. officiating. Private burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Ryan Taylor, Shaun Taylor, Alex Wyatt and Adam Wyatt. WILEY HICKMAN Wiley “Kim” Hickman, 74, widower of Willie Mae Robinson Hickman, died on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at his home in Sumter. He was born on March 26, 1943, in Greeleyville, a son of the late James and Maggie Dukes Epps. KUMSUN YI HENDRICKSON Kumsun Yi Hendrickson, 87, widow of Lawrence Hendrickson, died on Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born in South Korea, she was a daughter of the late Yun Sun Chi and Bu Yup Lee. Mrs. Hendrickson was a member of the Korean-American Presbyterian Church and she was a retired registered nurse. Surviving are a daughter, Kyongran “Strawberry” Sterling of Sumter; a brother, Shawn Lee of California; two sisters, Suna Lee of Virginia and Suna Dorman of Mississippi; and two grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Joshua Jang officiating. Born on Oct. 6, 1940, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late George Herbert and Mary Bochette Ford. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
