Herricks 7th grade artist recognized Herricks senior Lau honored

Herricks Middle School seventh grader Laura Kopcinski had her artwork highlighted as part of Nassau County Parks Department Arbor Day celebration.

The artwork featuring a tree was selected by Deputy Director of Parks John Darcy. Kopcinski’s art became the design on t-shirts worn by park volunteers, many of whom are Herricks High School student volunteers.

“We are very proud of Laura on this honor,” says Herricks Director of Fine and Performing Arts Anissa Arnold. “Congratulations to Laura and to her art teacher Cindy Perotti for fostering her artistic growth.”

Herricks High School senior Carolyn Lau was recently honored as one of 20 Long Island Scholar Artists at the Tilles Center for Performing Arts. Her profile was featured in an issue of Newsday, which highlighted her musical and academic successes.

The Scholar-Artist Awards program sponsored by the Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) and presented by the New York Community Bank Foundation and Newsday, recognizes students as “the best of the best” on Long Island in both academics and in the arts.

Carolyn began playing the flute in third grade and currently studies flute at the Juilliard PreCollege with Carol Wincenc. She
