“These meters are underutilized most of the day because students would need to go out and feed the meters every two hours,” Pereira said. “It’s not a tremendous amount of revenue but it gets 20 cars out of neighborhoods and in and around the schools.”

The Mineola Resident-Business Commercial Parking Permit designates 32 non-exclusive commercial parking spaces for commercial vehicles on a nonexclusive, first come first serve basis. Trailers, RVs, mobile homes and construction equipment are not eligible for the permit.
Pereira said the $1,500 permits for the year will help keep commercial vehicles from being parked on village roads or in driveways overnight, which is prohibited.
“I think this provides a solution for residents because now they won’t have to deal with commercial vehicles in front of their homes,” Pereira said. “It also provides a solution for residents who own businesses in our village that may need a place to park overnight.”
The 32 parking spaces will come from Municipal Parking Field No. 2, which has six spaces, Municipal Parking Field No. 23, which has 10 spaces, Municipal Parking Field No. 24, which has 10 spaces and Municipal Parking Field No. 25, which has six spaces.
In unrelated village news, the Mineola Fire Department and Boy Scouts Troop 45 will put on the Memorial Day parade Monday, May 29, at 11 a.m.

On Wednesday, June 7, at 5:30 p.m. the village will have a flag-raising ceremony for Portugal Day, which is Saturday, June 10.
On Sunday, June 11, the village will be hosting its seventh annual Portugal Day parade on Jericho. The parade will end at Wilson Field, the Mineola Portuguese Center fair will be taking place from Friday, June 9 to June 11.
The next Mineola Board of Trustees meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 7.
