Detective Charles “Chuck” Vroom, who was assigned to the 3rd Precinct in Williston

Park, was one of four ofcers who had bronze plaques dedicated to them Thursday at the Nassau County police memorial wall.

Vroom died on Sept. 12,

2021, due to complications of COVID-19. He was 52 years old and was with the department for 17 years. He is survived by his son, Sean and was posthumously promoted to the rank of detective.

Vroom was honored alongside Hector Nunez, a 16-year ofcer based at the 5th Precinct in Elmont who also died in 2021 due to complications from COVID-19. He was 42 years old.

Detective Matthew Perlungher, 50, and Ofcer Robert Negri, 56, who died from illnesses related to search and rescue eforts after the Sept. 11 attacks, were also honored.

The four will join 40 other ofcers who have died in the line of duty since 1925 on the memorial in front of the county’s police headquarters in Mineola.

On May 13, the ofcers were added to the New York state memorial in Albany and the national police memorial in Washington, D.C.
