Charged as fake fire marshal in $3.2K scam

A Manhattan man was charged Wednesday with impersonating a fre marshal and stealing over $3,200 from Nassau County businesses by charging invoices and fees for fraudulent inspections, police said.

Michael Carrion, 57, allegedly collected payment after conducting fake inspections at fve locations, police said. He identifed himself as a fre marshal, frefghter or fre investigator, police said.

The pretend inspections took place from Feb. 22, 2020, to Aug. 31, 2022, police said.

Carrion allegedly collected $476.90 in payment from Gourmet Bake Shop at 775 Hillside Ave. in New Hyde Park; $1,070 from AAC Convenience Store at 27. N. Station Plaza in Great Neck; $476 from Sobol Restaurant in Rockville Centre, $230 from a Dunkin Donuts in Rockville Centre and $970.70 from Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen at 1015 Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, police said.

Carrion was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, scheme to defraud in the sec- ond degree, four counts of criminal impersonation in the second degree and four counts of petit larceny.
