A members' guide to energy-efficient solutions this heating season

This winter, demand for efficient, cost-effective heating solutions is more important than ever. With energy bills continuing to rise, finding smarter ways to heat homes and workplaces isn’t just about staying warm –it’s about staying sustainable and saving money too.

In this article, we’ve reached out to some of our industry-leading suppliers to uncover the latest advancements in energy-efficient heating technology. From innovative products to expert tips, this guide provides valuable insights to help you find cost-conscious heating solutions for your customers.

How radiators can maximise warmth whilst using less energy

We spoke to The Radiator Company to discover how modern radiators are enhancing energy-efficient heating, the latest innovations that reduce costs and what trends are driving customer demand this heating season.

How do modern radiators contribute to energy-efficient heating?

“ There are features such as convector fins, or double-panel multi-column designs, that help to ensure heat is distributed effectively throughout a room.

Additionally, materials such as aluminium offer excellent thermal performance, its conductivity is estimated to be 4-to-5 times that of mild steel, so it can heat up and cool down with speed. Aluminium radiators also require less water to function and place less demand on heating systems.”

What recent innovations have there been in radiator technology?

“ There has been a significant development in radiators designed to work with renewable systems. Hybrid radiators, such as the Relax Hybrid from The Radiator Company, are an innovative solution that combines the benefits of both radiant and fan coil-assisted systems to deliver efficient space heating.

When connected to a heat pump, some models can also deliver cooling to offer users the flexibility to adjust the room temperature according to season – providing consistent heat in the winter and, with appropriate system specification, cool air in the summer. In addition, some radiators are compatible with smart heating controls, giving the option to zone, control and programme their heating, which can, in turn, reduce energy wastage and associated costs.”

“ This also makes them ideal for renewable heating, thanks to their thermal inertia and ability to perform with lower water temperatures. ”

How are demands changing throughout this heating season?

“ Several factors currently influence end-user heating choices. These include the cost of energy remaining at high levels, coupled with pressure on households to reduce bills amidst cost of living challenges.

Furthermore, householders are increasingly looking to find ways to be more sustainable. This is against the backdrop of the government’s drive to net zero and the changes to Part L of the Building Regulations in 2022 that require heating systems to be designed to operate at a low flow temperature.

Also, in recent years, aesthetics have increasingly become a considered element of an overall interior design scheme – gone are the days of the standard, white flat panel radiator! As such, we’re finding more and more homeowners asking for advice on solutions that help meet both their design and sustainability needs.”

The future of boilers: Efficiency and sustainable heating

Boilers play a crucial role in keeping homes and businesses warm, but with rising energy costs and increasing environmental concerns, the demand for more efficient and sustainable heating solutions has never been greater.

We conducted research on Intergas who are at the forefront of designing technology that enhances energy efficiency and helps reduce heating costs, tackling some of the biggest challenges in heating, and ensuring installers and homeowners benefit from smart, sustainable systems.

The impact of modern boilers on energy efficiency and heating costs

The efficiency of a boiler can have a significant impact on heating costs, and as energy prices continue to fluctuate, customers are increasingly looking for ways to cut down on bills. A key driver in modern boiler efficiency is condensing technology, which captures heat from exhaust gases rather than wasting it. Most installers are already familiar with condensing boilers, but not all condensing boilers are created equal.

Innovations like Passive Flue Gas Heat Recovery (PFGHR) go beyond standard condensing technology. For example, Intergas’s Xtreme range uses this to reclaim additional heat from waste gases, which means less energy is needed to generate hot water.

Challenges in maintaining boiler efficiency and how to overcome them

Even the most advanced boiler will lose efficiency over time if it isn’t properly maintained. Sludge, limescale, and incorrect installation are among the biggest culprits. This is why installers often rely on independents to provide the right filters, inhibitors, and accessories to ensure long-term performance.

A practical solution is encouraging the use of system filters. For instance, fitting a system filter not only protects the heating system from debris but also extends the warranty on Intergas boilers by an extra two years.

Another key aspect of efficiency maintenance is smart technology. With remote monitoring options, installers can keep an eye on boiler performance and address potential issues before they lead to costly breakdowns.

Boiler technology advancements that boost efficiency and cut costs

One of the biggest improvements in modern boiler efficiency is modulating technology. Instead of operating at full power all the time, modulating boilers adjust their output based on demand, using only the energy necessary to heat a home or provide hot water. This reduces unnecessary gas consumption, leading to lower energy bills for homeowners and less wear and tear on the boiler itself.

Intergas incorporates this approach with dual OpenTherm inputs in boilers like the Xclusive and Xtreme, allowing for finer temperature control and better system integration.

Another important advancement is vacuum insulation, which minimises heat loss from the boiler itself. For example, the Eco RF uses this technology to keep the boiler virtually silent while improving heat retention.

Smart heating innovations shaping the industry

Discover how Drayton Controls is meeting the growing demand for smart heating solutions, with advanced features like multi-zoning, Eco Mode, and Away Mode delivering significant energy savings for customers, providing you with an opportunity to boost sales in the renewable heating market.

How much of an impact do smart heating controls have in terms of energy savings and individual preferences?

“ Heating accounts for over half of the typical utilities bill, so it is no surprise that 68% of consumers in the UK look for ways to reduce their energy use at home. One easy way to do this is by upgrading their existing heating controls, for example, according to BEAMA, simply upgrading from an outdated thermostat to a best-practice model can make savings of up to 12%, and opting for a smart control can save an additional 6%.

Also, multi-zoned heating systems are growing in popularity with consumers, allowing users to customise the temperature in each room according to their individual needs. Research from BEAMA also found that upgrading from basic heating controls to a multi-zone system, such as Wiser, can offer savings of up to 19% on energy bills.”

What are the latest advancements in smart heating controls that improve energy efficiency?

“ Smart modes are one way in which homeowners achieve additional savings. When taking Wiser as an example, Eco Mode combines optimum stop and weather compensation to study the thermal properties of the home. Once this is achieved, the system will learn to switch the boiler off sooner than scheduled to reduce energy consumption.

Many smart controls have functions, such as Away Mode, that can be quickly activated to turn off the heating when you’re not at home, instead of having to adjust your regular schedule – ideal for those with busy, unpredictable lifestyles.

Wiser user data has shown that by using smart modes such as these, homeowners can typically reduce their energy usage by an average of 16%.

Some smart controls, like Wiser, also offer insights to users to help them understand their energy consumption and make informed decisions about how they could adjust their heating habits to become more efficient.”

Wiser smart TRV from Drayton

How can smart heating controls integrate with both traditional boilers and newer systems like heat pumps?

“ Investing in a smart heating control offers significant efficiency gains and compatibility with various heat sources, from traditional gas boilers to heat pumps. Features like smart modes make these controls versatile for all homeowners. As the UK moves towards net zero, these controls will be vital in ensuring renewable heating systems perform efficiently and homes are ready to meet future energy demands.

Open protocols like OpenTherm play a key role by enabling interoperability between different technologies and improving the efficiency of systems like heat pumps through temperature modulation. Offering renewableready smart controls now ensures consumers are prepared for a future shift to sustainable heating solutions.”

“ Homeowners can typically reduce their energy usage by an average of 16%. ”

Throughout the heating season, there’s no denying the challenges posed by rising energy costs. But as members of The IPG with access to innovative products and expert insights from leading suppliers, you’re well-positioned to guide your customers towards smarter, more sustainable heating choices.

By offering reliable, energy-efficient solutions, you can help build trust and provide added value for your customers.

On 9th September 2024, we proudly celebrated the first-ever Trade Local Day, an initiative created by The IPG for you, our members, to encourage the trade to shop with and support independent plumbing stores and bathroom showrooms.

With over 120 member stores participating, the day was a remarkable celebration of community, collaboration and connections –leaving a lasting impact on tradespeople and local economies.

A resounding success across the network

Feedback from participating stores confirmed the event's success, with many members echoing similar sentiments:

AMCO Distributors

Established in 1985, AMCO Distributors, located in Retford, Nottinghamshire, is a family-run, independent business offering their customers a wide range of products from heating supplies, lighting and electrical items to bathroom suites and kitchens.

Originally starting in the small market town of Retford, the business has grown significantly over the last 40 years and is now home to an impressive retail showroom and trade counter.

As one of the newest members of The IPG, we spoke to James Bacon, a director of AMCO whose journey with the company began 22 years ago. He told us about why they chose to become a member and their future plans for this thriving business.

How did you hear about The IPG?

“ One of your member advisors at the time, Kevin Oakes, called in to see me after a discussion with Lee Green of Green Electrical & Plumbing Supplies in Barnsley. Lee thought our business model would benefit from being an IPG member. I visited Lee at his Barnsley branch and after chatting with him about the marketing and sales support The IPG offers, I quickly decided The IPG would be an excellent fit for AMCO.”

Why did you decide to join The IPG?

“ I joined as I could see the value in being part of a larger organisation that gives me both margin on the products that I sell day-to-day and access to brands that normally would not be interested in providing AMCO with a deal.

The digital elements on offer and the various marketing activities available really stood out and I could see clearly how they could benefit us. After visiting The IPG support centre and meeting the team, I quickly made up my mind that I wanted to work with the group. The people in the business share the same passion for the industry that I have and I knew working together was the right decision for AMCO.”

How have you found the experience so far?

“ Excellent, no complaints at all. No matter who I deal with at The IPG I feel that my business is valued. The portal has also been an amazing resource to aid our day-to-day trading and the marketing support we have received has been brilliant. We have one of the digital screens on display which helps us promote supplier brands and offers easily.

AMCO Distributors dual branded signage

The social media platform has also been great, as each month content is scheduled and posted for us, which really saves us time.”

Why did you decide to become a dual branded store?

“ I wanted to show my commitment to a brand that I believe in. The IPG logo provokes a conversation with our tradespeople and once we explain the collective that we are now part of I believe this gives them the confidence to trade exclusively with us. Locally nobody can offer the level of service, in-branch expertise and product range that we have and this is enhanced further by being a member.”

What would you say to another member thinking about becoming dual branded?

“ I would highly recommend this. We have taken the opportunity to coincide the dual branding with a full overhaul of the branch appearance. The IPG marketing team made the process simple and came up with all the designs for us – everything was implemented six weeks after joining the group!”

What exciting plans do you have for 2025?

“ After 40 years Andy, the founder, is now stepping down and I am buying the business. Andy has been a major driving force behind the business and I intend to carry on the AMCO legacy.

We are also working on expanding our new build sector offering a one-stop shop for house builders, this has been well received locally and I intend to roll this out across a wider area.”

Spreading festive cheer with Santa’s Sack

Last Christmas we helped spread a little magic to families across the country with our charity campaign, "Win Santa’s Sack". Sponsored by our generous suppliers Wavin, Bristan and Monument Tools, over 140 member stores and showrooms took part in the annual event to raise money for Royal Voluntary Service.

Santa Sacks bursting with gifts were delivered to participating locations at the end of November for them to raffle tickets to their customers during the festive period. From premium tools and body care products to family games, books and selection boxes, the sacks were sure to bring smiles to all the family. One lucky winner was drawn at each location on 20th December just in time for them to enjoy over Christmas.

Throughout December, Santa, played by our own brand ambassador Mark Millar, was the star of our social media campaign. The promotional videos followed him on his journey to find his missing reindeer while spreading Christmas cheer and encouraging customers to pop in store and buy some raffle tickets.

Behind the scenes

In this issue of The Outlet, we spoke to Pete Banham, Commercial Director at The IPG. This talk dives into Pete’s experiences that have contributed to his expertise in the field as well as his commitment to supporting the growth of independent stores.

Tell us about yourself and how you have come to work at The IPG.

“ I am a strategic commercial leader with experience in running my own business and operating as an exec and non-exec in national and international companies. I have known and dealt with The IPG from a supplier perspective for a number of years, and have always admired the passion of the business in supporting the growth of independent plumbing stores and bathroom showrooms. So when we started to discuss a new commercial role for The IPG last year, there was only ever going to be one outcome.”

How would you describe your role to a member of The IPG?

“ I am involved with all commercial activities with new and existing members through to commercial discussions and deals with our supply partners. Building and maintaining relationships with members and suppliers is key to the ongoing success of the business. The collaboration model is an important tool in the business and helps to ensure the win: win: win outcome for members, supply partners and The IPG.”

Is there a common challenge our members face and what’s the first step to solving that?

“There are a number of challenges that our members face, not least the tough environment that not only our market but the country is in at present. However, one of the challenges all members are facing or going to face is how to attract young people into the industry and, more importantly, keep them.

Recruitment of the next generation is key to the development of the industry and in particular the growth of independent plumbing stores and bathroom showrooms. The first step is to make the business exciting and interesting to young people leaving school or university, ensuring that we as business leaders have the right features and benefits in place to attract them.”

What motivates you to help our members achieve their goals?

“ As mentioned earlier, I am passionate about the quality of service that is provided by independents. It’s important to me that, particularly in our sector we maintain variety and choice, if you stick with the larger players, we would lose independent businesses, and with that, we would lose the better range of choice, better service, and vast expertise you find with independents.”

What are you excited about for this upcoming year?

“ We have a number of great new initiatives for the year ahead, in particular, the increased visibility of the group through various media to help the growth of our members. Exciting times ahead!

Also, I’m very much looking forward to our international conference in Portugal… this time I'll be with The IPG rather than a supplier! Having experienced both sides of the fence, I hope to bring a unique perspective benefiting everyone involved.”

What’s been a highlight since joining The IPG?

“ The general feel and buzz about the company. It's a great place to work... and there is never a dull moment! Also, working with everyone at The IPG, it's clear the enthusiasm to move forward and how determined everyone is to make a difference in this sector, which you can feel and see straight away with the company.”

From local innovator to global leader: Vokèra’s journey

For over 40 years, Vokèra by Riello has been a trusted name in heating, known for quality and innovation. As part of Carrier Global, Vokèra continues to lead in energy-efficient, sustainable solutions.

Vokèra, originally a UK brand, became part of the Riello Group, gaining access to advanced manufacturing and engineering expertise from one of the most respected names in the field.

Now, as part of Carrier Global Corporation, Vokèra is able to leverage a global research and development network to drive significant innovation in energy efficiency, digital controls and low-emission technologies. This strategic alignment allows Vokèra to deliver highperformance, sustainable heating solutions tailored to the UK market.

Paving the way for a more efficient future

Vokèra continues to set the bar for innovation with cutting-edge technologies and design. Recent product launches, such as the Synergy and Pinnacle boiler lines, are prime examples of their commitment to enhancing both performance and sustainability.

These models feature impressive technical specifications that will resonate with both installers and customers alike, including:

• A-rated 94% energy efficiency for superior performance and cost savings.

• Advanced modulation ratios (up to 1:13 in the Pinnacle model) for improved system flexibility and performance.

• High-quality, durable stainless steel components ensuring longevity and reliability.

• User-friendly digital interfaces that make installation and operation simple.

• Compact designs that are perfect for installations in tight spaces

• Minimal environmental impact, aligning with growing consumer demand.

As Vokèra and the Riello Group continue to innovate, they are not only shaping the future of heating technology but also helping merchants like you meet the evolving demands of consumers who are looking for efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly solutions.

Vokèra’s commitment to supporting independents

Supporting independents is a core value for the company, which recognises the vital role local businesses play in enriching communities and competition. One of the ways Vokèra opens its doors to merchants is through its nationwide training vehicle which provides insights into its full range of HVAC solutions; it will set off in January down south and continue around the UK.

This presents a wonderful opportunity for members to increase their footfall of salesready installers, as well as a great chance to resolve any queries you may have, directly with trained Vokèra personnel.

2025 is also an exciting year for Vokèra, as it takes part in the upcoming InstallerSHOW in June, debuting all of its brands as a united front!

As Vokèra staff put it:

“ Here at Vokèra, we understand the importance of supporting independent merchants. We see the personal connections and support they offer our installers and that they form part of the wider community. In supporting independents we are supporting installers to connect with each other.”

SYNERGY

For over 40 years, Vokèra by Riello has been producing heating appliances that have been designed by engineers for engineers. The all new Vokèra Synergy is packed with installer friendly features such as: lightweight and compact in size, universal pipework layout for easy boiler replacements, combined condensate and safety valve outlet

connection, easy access connection for external controls, easy maintenance with front access to all components. And of course, for your customers, the Synergy delivers class leading efficiency, performance, and ease of use via the new touchpad interface. We’ve pretty much changed everything but our name.

The surge of apprentices: Tackling the skills gap crisis in plumbing

The UK plumbing trade is facing a workforce crisis. Due to recent governmental changes in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), there has been a strong push to tackle affordable housing and stimulate economic growth. A new goal of 1.5 million new houses in the next five years has been set. With an already in-demand trade, meeting the target of 7,000-8,000 new plumbers per year will be difficult and, if not done correctly, could result in a major labour shortage.

Fortunately, the government has also implemented significant initiatives to boost the number of trained professionals entering the market. These include halving the time it takes to complete apprenticeships, providing 95% to 100% funding for small businesses and changes to the levy to support funding for larger businesses. Also, it includes a £140

million investment in the industry, enabling 5,000 more apprentices per year. The government has tackled the major barriers that limited the intake and progression of new apprentices, essentially, opening the industry up to trained professionals.

Although this is a major challenge for the government, its success would benefit the country. This presents an amazing opportunity for our members to attract long-term loyal customers to their stores. Incentivising young apprentices to shop locally by offering personal service, sharing expertise and hosting apprentice-focused events, could grow loyalty, turning young professionals into long-term, high-value customers.

2024 autumn budget

Last year’s autumn budget, presented on 30th October 2024, included an optimistic message for a clean future in the UK. The government demonstrated its commitment to meeting the goal of net zero by 2050. The budget recognises previous successes and continues to increase investments to maintain its target trajectory.

Key takeaways in this respect would be further funding towards heat decarbonisation and household energy efficiency over the next three years. The budget includes £3.4 billion towards heat decarbonisation and efficiency, £1.8 billion to support fuel poverty schemes helping over 225,000 households reduce their energy bills by over £200 annually, £1 billion for local energy schemes (GOV. UK), and a 39% increase for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), from £180 million to £250 million in 2025 (Ofgem).

By implementing these changes in the budget, the government hopes to instil confidence in the supply chain. Additional funding throughout the autumn budget also incentivises the development of efficient energy, such as increases in renewable energy and £163 million set aside to help firms decarbonise and grow in the next three years (GOV.UK).

Embodied carbon emissions and the switch to bio-based materials

Construction emissions were responsible for 49% of emissions in the UK in 2022, with 80% of that accountable to the ongoing operation of these buildings. 20% of emissions from ongoing operations is due to the embodied carbon impact of construction materials (Leti.uk), which total more than 64 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year (ukgbc.org). Embodied carbon is the term for emissions produced during the construction of a building, including the extraction, processing, manufacturing and delivery stages of the material life cycle.

As the majority share of carbon emissions in construction currently comes from the ongoing operations of buildings (Leti.uk), there is naturally a greater focus on tackling this. But, as these emissions are reduced, the proportion of emissions from embodied carbon will increase. Over time, attention will shift to embodied carbon, but this isn't some far-off prediction. Institutes such as UKGBC, CIOB, RICS, ICE and others have joined together calling for regulations similar to those already in place in Europe and California (ukgbc.org). Currently, the majority of emissions are

contributed by three materials: concrete, steel and aluminium (Architecture300.org). While there are no direct substitutes yet, some materials have been suggested that could play key roles in the future such as timber, bamboo, straw and hemp. These materials all dramatically decrease carbon emissions by absorbing carbon as they grow and storing it throughout their lifecycle as well as by avoiding the carbon that would otherwise be emitted through processing. While it’s unlikely the construction industry will change to the absolute best option available instantly, there are methods already in practice that reduce embodied carbon in frequently used materials.

One example of the positive impact of embodied carbon-friendly modification to materials would be the incorporation of GGBS (non-metallic material obtained in the production of iron) into cement mix. With the most common proportions in the UK, 50% of the cement component is replaced with GGBS, which reduces embodied carbon by 30% and at the same time results in significant engineering benefits, such as reducing the heat of hydration which increases its strength and durability (Cpmverge.io).

The Windsor Declaration

On 1st November 2024, we saw a monumental step forward for water efficiency. In a historic gathering at Windsor Castle, the Bathroom Manufacturers Association (BMA) hosted a 2-day summit where plumbing and bathroom industry leaders discussed two significant global challenges: antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and water scarcity.

Each day, up to 400 million litres of water are wasted in the UK alone due to leaky toilets, amounting to a staggering 1.46 billion litres of water each year. This represents 10% of the additional water needed by 2050 (BMA. org). Alongside water waste, AMR is a growing concern. AMR occurs when infection-causing organisms evolve to survive treatment, including antibiotics. With no new class of antibiotics developed since the 1980s, there is potential for routine low-risk operations to become high risk due to the inability to prevent infections.

To tackle these growing concerns, industry leaders committed to invest in improving water-saving in toilets and showers, clearly label products and lobby governments for support. Alongside these pledges to reduce water waste, these companies pledged to design and develop new products with reduced risk of infection, improve hygiene, reduce toilet plumes and biofilm growth, and improve touchless technologies and flush systems.

In conclusion, this declaration signed by many reaffirms manufacturers' commitments to develop and implement efficient and safe technology

Bathroom trend for 2025

As expected, smart bathrooms are growing annually, continuing their expected growth rates, and smart toilets are forecasted to remain the top market share holder in the segment (SkyQuest). In addition to smart tech, efficient and sustainable products are in high demand. As the cost of living continues to present challenges, consumers are eager to invest in their spaces to reduce their long-term running costs. Efficient showers and taps will have the largest impact on savings, resulting in more demand, while lighting and heating products could follow (BKU).

2025 is welcoming earthy and natural styles into the new year, although black and white colour schemes still dominate the space with black maintaining the lead in searches over the past three years. Softer hues such as light blues and greens are rising in popularity, with green bathroom searches outperforming blues for the past two years (GoogleTrends). Many sources speculate that avocado green will make a comeback. Pantone has also revealed Mocha Mousse will be the colour of 2025. Overall, the choice of brighter and less monotone colours confirms that consumers are looking to individualise their spaces.

Following an initial public consultation in 2021, The Energy Act 2023 was created, empowering the government to implement heat network zoning – also known as district heating – a plan to use excess heat from a centralised source to heat several buildings at once. As planning has progressed, we can expect construction of the first pilot project to start in 2026. The government has stated the implementation of this project will be a major factor in meeting net-zero goals for 2050. In 2023 heat networks provided only 2–3% of heat in the UK, but this figure is estimated to reach 20% in the years leading up to 2050.

The pilot project – unveiled as part of the advanced zoning programme – will demonstrate the effectiveness of district heating systems.

With the transition to more personalised bathrooms, 2025 seems to be heading towards soft organic designs based on minimalism. Soft curves in furniture, tiles and fixtures highlight the desire for peaceful spaces while the popularity of textured features like fluted glass screens and vanity units are on the rise, indicating that consumers are also keen to style their bathrooms in more subtle contrasting ways.

In an article published by GOV.UK, the government states, “Developing zones for heat networks in urban areas is the cheapest and most efficient way of delivering the technology, which recycles excess heat –generated for example by data centres or from factories – to enable the heating of several buildings at once.”

The government has planned to implement the pilot project in six cities and towns across England. These initial zones will be located in Leeds, Plymouth, Bristol, Stockport, Sheffield and London, and provide guidance on how future zones will work side by side. These initial zones will be supported by £5.8 million in funding, with Ofgem as the appointed market regulator.

hansgrohe and The IPG: Connecting with tradespeople and driving innovation

This year, hansgrohe made a significant stride in engaging directly with the UK’s skilled bathroom fitters and installers.

To support this initiative, hansgrohe partnered with The IPG and On The Tools to launch a series of campaigns that not only highlight their brand values but also address the specific needs of the trade community.

The collaboration combined the strengths of each partner: hansgrohe’s renowned reputation for innovation and quality, The IPG’s extensive network of independent plumbing stores and bathroom showrooms, and On The Tools’ creative expertise in connecting with the trade audience. Together, they created a campaign designed to inform, inspire and engage, marking hansgrohe’s first targeted outreach to tradespeople.

Showcasing commitment

At the heart of the campaign was a focus on dynamic and relatable content that underscored hansgrohe's dedication to quality,

sustainability and innovation. A series of videos and social media stories explored themes ranging from the brand's iconic product design to its eco-friendly water-saving technologies, capable of reducing water consumption by up to 60%.

A key message emphasised the benefits of purchasing their products from IPG member stores, where tradespeople can access expert advice, competitive pricing and the opportunity to support local, independent businesses.

Tom McPhilimey: A relatable voice for the campaign

To ensure the campaign resonated with its audience, Coventry-based installer Tom McPhilimey was chosen as its relatable influencer. At just 36, Tom has built an impressive career in the trade. Starting as an apprentice at 17, he quickly gained qualifications and launched his own business by the age of 20. Today, he runs a thriving bathroom renovation and multi-trade company employing five people.

XtraStoris Minimalist

Tom starred in a Day in the Life (DITL) video filmed at IPG member store Ebberns. The video offered an authentic glimpse into the daily life of a busy tradesperson, while showcasing hansgrohe products in action. Highlighting the quality and ease of installation of their product offerings, the video resonated strongly with the trade audience, garnering over 16,000 views and counting.

Independent stores at the forefront

A central theme of the campaign was the vital role independent stores play in supporting tradespeople. Shopping locally not only provides tradespeople with personalised service and access to high-quality products but also strengthens the independent businesses that are the backbone of the industry.

hansgrohe’s partnership with The IPG played a pivotal role in amplifying this message. With the group's nationwide network of stores, tradespeople can conveniently access top-quality products while benefiting from competitive pricing and exceptional customer support.

Innovative new products

As hansgrohe deepens its relationship with the trade community, the company is preparing to launch two exciting new products in 2025: the RainDrain Go and the XtraStoris Minimalist

• RainDrain Go: This sleek, efficient drainage solution is available in Brushed Stainless Steel and Matt Black finishes. Its tileable grate ensures seamless integration with surrounding tiles, while features like a pre-assembled sealing membrane and adjustable grate height simplify installation.

• XtraStoris Minimalist: A modern storage solution for wet areas, this waterproof wall niche can be installed flush with tiles or protruding for design flexibility. Easy to clean and install, it’s ideal for both tradespeople and homeowners who value style and functionality.

A bright future in the trade

hansgrohe’s journey of talking to the trade is just beginning, and this campaign with The IPG and On The Tools has already made an impact. By creating authentic, relatable content and championing the importance of shopping locally, hansgrohe has positioned itself as a trusted partner for tradespeople across the UK.

As tradespeople continue to look for trusted products, hansgrohe’s partnership with The IPG ensures that quality, value and local support are never far away.

Other charity support

At The IPG we pride ourselves on supporting worthwhile charities and making a difference to communities not just in the UK but across the world. Each year we donate to charities close to our heart and get involved in different fundraising opportunities and events.

Rickshaw Run 2023

In 2023, we were proud sponsors of the Sewa UK Rickshaw Run which involved participants travelling across India in auto rickshaws, visiting various Sewa projects along the way. Starting in Chitrakoot, 36 rickshaws covered over 2,000km to Kutch in 12 days raising funds and awareness for a great cause.

A huge £700,979 was raised during the event with all donations going towards the refurbishment of a dental unit in Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh, India. The facility provides free or very affordable cleft and palate surgery to support the 500 surrounding villages. The operations that will take place there will be life changing and enable integration into society without any associated stigma.

Ongoing support

This year saw the launch of our new charity partner Royal Voluntary Service, whose focus is on connecting with local communities to offer emotional and practical support to those more vulnerable. The fundraising for this charity by you and your customers so far has been incredible – together we are making a meaningful difference.

Charity donations from The IPG don’t end there, as we have 8 other charities we feel passionately about supporting each year:

Unicef is one of the first to respond to humanitarian crises, wherever a child’s right to a happy, safe and healthy childhood is threatened.

World Vision is focused on helping the most vulnerable children overcome poverty and experience fullness of life.

Chestnut Tree House is a children's hospice in Sussex that provides care and support for children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

The RNLI provides a search and rescue service which saves lives at sea around the coast of the UK and Ireland.

Oxfam is a global community of people who believe in a kinder, and radically better world without poverty and injustice.

WaterAid is an international not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere.
