BJP Rakes Up Scams, Atrocities On Dalits Under Mayawati's Rule New Delhi: Dalit atrocities, scams worth lakhs of rupees, and support to criminals for short term political gains were the hallmarks of Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayawati's tenure as chief minister, Uttar Pradesh BJP alleged today. In a statement questioning Ms Mayawati's promise of providing good governance, the BJP said that she had no moral right to claim so after faced corruption charges in a number of scams. "She (Mayawati) has run her past goverments in the company of criminals and is still keeping them with her. She has no moral right ot claim that she will send them behind bars if she becomes chief minister again," said BJP's

national secretary Shrikant Sharma. The statement also contrasted Ms Mayawati's tenure as chief minister with that of the NDA at the centre claiming that the government under Prime Minister Modi had worked hard to curb crime and also launched a number of schemes to help the poor. "The National Rural Health Mission scam was during her tenure, it was worth Rs. 85000 crore. It just shows the story of corruption under her. There were scams in police recruitment, sugar factory, Taj corridor, the list is endless. The BSP is an alliance of the corrupt," Mr Sharma said. India 'Substantially Free' From Homegrown Terrorism: President Pranab Mukherjee

New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi today said India is "substantially free" from the globally witnessed menace of homegrown terrorism as citizens possess "ethnicity in mind and have faith in pluralism". Mr Mukherjee, while teaching students in the school inside the President's Estate as part of the second edition of his 'Pranab Sir's class', also spoke about the worrisome development of "political assassinations" in India and its neighbourhood adding that despite these instances "we have had a stable political regime".

The special session was held to observe 'Teachers Day' with students of Class XI of the Delhi government-run Dr Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya during which Mr Mukherjee said "secularism is part of the life" for Indians. India has suffered the brunt of terrorism, including that of the cross-border variety, he said. The President said it was the credit and success of India's policy and acumen of the administration that incidents of homegrown terrorism, the biggest menace to international peace and community,

'One India One Election': PM Modi's Idea Gets President's Vote New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee today appeared to support simultaneous national and state elections in India - an idea pitched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi - while taking a special class at a government school on Monday. "Call me Pranab Sir or Mukherjee Sir," the 80year-old veteran politician declared as he walked into a classroom of 60 students. "Pranab Sir's class" was a Teacher's Day treat for students of the Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, which is within the sprawling presidential

estate. He shared his views about a range of subjects, including PM Modi's idea of holding all elections at the same time. When a Class 11 student asked the President on the spending on elections and whether it would be good to hold all polls in one go, he

replied: "The Election Commission can also put in their idea and efforts on holding the polls together and that will be highly beneficial." The student, Ragini, said she "couldn't believe" that the President had answered Contd on page 5

has kept India "substantially free" from its tentacles. "It is we who are attacked and we are the victims of cross-border attacks... But not so much of homegrown terror," he said, adding this was because of the "ethinicity of mind, belief and faith in pluralism, huge diversity in language, religion, food... Almost in everything." We all belong to the same system, the President said, adding that this quality was "unique". Talking for about 50 minutes to the students Contd on page 5

Experts Sent By PM Modi Vindicate No Foreign Funds For Zakir Naik's NGO Without Government Permission My Stand, Says Nitish Kumar Patna: As he awaits the verdict of experts on what drove the worst floods in Bihar in over a decade, Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, is anxiously tweeting what he claims as evidence that the deluge is man-made. Last week, five experts were sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bihar to determine if the floods that have killed 75 people and forced five lakhs into shelters or temporary camps are the result of problems thrown up by a dam, the Farakka barrage in Bengal. The Chief Minister had requested that the PM pick "neutral" observers. Mr Kumar says that the Farakka barrage is creating humongous

problems with the accumulation of silt, which has raised the river bed of the Ganga, causing it to overflow. 12 of Bihar's 39 districts are under water, including areas like the capital of Patna, which were unaffected in earlier floods. "It is essential to develop a proper and appropriate national silt management policy without in any way disturbing the ecology and the Contd on page 5

New Delhi: Controversial televangelist Zakir Naik's Islamic Research Foundation cannot accept foreign funding without seeking the Union Home Ministry's permission, the government has decided, putting the organisation on what it calls a "prior permission category list." This is a first step towards canceling permission for Dr Naik's organisation to receive foreign funds. The ministry has said the foundation's licence to receive funding under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act or FCRA was "accidentally" renewed last month, even though Dr Naik is under investigation for allegedly misus-

ing foreign donations. He has also been accused by the Bangladesh government of making speeches that could have incited some of the terrorists who attacked a Dhaka cafe in July, killing 20 people. India has promised detailed investigation into Dr Naik's speeches. "We have suspended three officers, because permission couldn't have been renewed when the probe was on," Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju told NDTV last week on the licence being renewed. Sources said the Islamic Research Foundation's funding was being investigated from before Contd on page 5
