Punch Brothers are mandolinist Chris Thile, guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjoist Noam Pikelny, and violinist Gabe Witcher . Their accolades include a Grammy® for Best Folk Album for their 2018 release, All Ashore, and praise from the media, including The Washington Post, which said, “With enthusiasm and experimentation, Punch Brothers take bluegrass to its next evolutionary stage, drawing equal inspiration from the brain and the heart . ”

In November of 2020, when the world felt so full of uncertainty, Punch Brothers did the one thing that they could rely on: they stood in a circle, facing one another and made music . A weeklong recording session, after quarantining and minimal rehearsal aside from a few Zoom calls, had culminated in their new record, Hell on Church Street — a reimagining of Bluegrass great Tony Rice’s landmark album, Church Street Blues — out on Nonesuch in January 2022 . Hell on Church Street is a potent work by a band realizing their own powers and returning to the foundations of their music .

Kowert considers this album to “harken back to our early days in the band when we were playing regularly on the Lower East Side, learning all this new material to expand our sonic arsenal . ”

This band of virtuosi had spent more than a decade changing the face of acoustic music, stretching the limitations of instruments, and influencing a generation of young musicians — but life has a way of keeping a band from getting in the same room . Thile elaborates that “these sessions were a reminder for me of what’s really important I felt silly having this band take up so little of my creative year; it reminded me that us five together is critical to my happiness . ”

Punch Brothers formed in 2006 Their first Nonesuch record, Punch, was released in 2008 and combined elements of the band’s many musical interests . In 2009, they began a residency at New York City’s intimate Lower East Side club, The Living Room, trying out new songs and ultimately spawning Antifogmatic (2010) . In 2012, the band released Who’s Feeling Young Now?, which Q magazine praised for its “astonishing, envelopepushing vision,” while Rolling Stone said, “The acoustic framework dazzles — wild virtuosity used for more than just virtuosity .” Their 2015 album, the T Bone Burnett-produced The Phosphorescent Blues, addresses with straight-up poignancy and subversive humor, the power and the pitfalls of our super-connected world

What began as a less-structured project for Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Fleetwood Mac) in between The Heartbreakers’ touring became a full-time project following the passing of Campbell’s longtime compatriot, friend and bandmate Tom Petty and his performances with Fleetwood Mac on their 2018-2019 World Tour .

Campbell was a member, architect and co-captain of the Heartbreakers, a band he co-founded with Petty, whom he met in a Gainesville, Florida carport in 1972 . The Heartbreakers lead guitarist, Campbell co-wrote many of the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers hits and also co-produced many of their albums – in addition to penning songs for Don Henley, Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks and playing on records by Aretha Franklin, Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash

Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs (Heartbreakers drummer Steve Ferrone, guitarist/keyboardist Chris Holt and bassist Lance Morrison) have spent the last three years touring the country headlining legendary venues such as the Fillmore in San Francisco, CA and Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY while also supporting icons including Chris Stapleton, The Who and Willie Nelson .

In September 2023, Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs, along with fellow Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers founding member Benmont Tench, were the backing band to musical legend Bob Dylan in his surprise appearance at Farm Aid 2023 – his first time back since the festival’s inaugural event in 1985 Performing his hits “Maggie’s Farm,” “Positively 4th Street” and “Ballad of a Thin Man,” attendees saw Dylan play the guitar for the first time in many years, marking the entire performance as a moment which Rolling Stone dubbed “the highlight of an epic show . ”

Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs released their second LP External Combustion in 2022 and toured the USA, including runs opening for both Chris Stapleton and The Who .

When Stanislav loudenitch first started the Park International Center for Music, he began with a simple concept. Find exceptional music teachers, and give them the time, tools, focus, and dedication needed to transform exceptional students into masters themselves. An internationally-recognized Van Cliburn gold medalist, Ioudenitch assembled a team that shared his world-class skills and his passion for teaching. Other outstanding programs have great master instructors. But no other American conservatory lets those masters devote the time to their students like they do at Park ICM. Not even storied programs like Juilliard, Curtis, or Eastman.

Come experience the birth of our international stars. Visit ICM.PARK.EDU for our concert schedule today.

“These featured soloists from Park University’s International Center for Music represent not only the quality of performance in Kansas City, but the future of it, too.”

Emergency Evacuation Procedures

The Kauffman Center is equipped with advanced life-safety early alert systems. Each performance hall is designed with emergency exits in case of an evacuation. In the event of severe weather, shelter in place inside the hall, not in a lobby area, and await further instructions.

In the event of an emergency, the performance will be interrupted. Horns and strobes will sound. Emergency instructions will be delivered from the stage.

Please remain seated as staff use an appropriate amount of investigational time to verify the source of the alarm.* Should an evacuation be necessary, lighted red (Muriel Kauffman Theatre) and green (Helzberg Hall) exit signs will lead patrons to one of eight emergency exit paths.

Patrons with mobility limitations and/or those who are not able to navigate stairs should remain in the venue near one of the marked “Emergency Evacuation Assistance” areas. First responders will evacuate those requiring assistance immediately upon their arrival.

Elevators, primary entrances and the Brandmeyer Great Hall staircase are NOT used in the case of an emergency evacuation.

For more information on emergency evacuation procedures, visit kauffmancenter.org/policies.

Kauffman Center Legacy Society

Legacy Society members have made planned gifts to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, helping the organization plan for the future.

Barbara and Doug Cusick became Kauffman Center supporters long before ground was broken for the building.

“We were inspired by the many ways the Kauffman family has shown its support for Kansas City,” said Doug, “and we wanted to do what we could for the new performing arts venue.” Barbara and Doug opened their home and their unique collection of antique automatic musical instruments for fundraising events. They also made a generous capital gift, purchased a seat plaque in honor of his mother and contributed to the Jane Chu Arts Endowment.

Now Doug and Barbara have looked ahead by making the Kauffman Center the future recipient of a life insurance policy their family no longer needs. “It’s as easy as changing the beneficiary’s name on a whole life insurance policy,” Doug explained. “We see this as a legacy from our entire family, that makes the performing arts and a vibrant downtown available to our kids, grandkids and beyond.”
