Ilfracombe

Hello and welcome to the March edition of The Ilfracombe Magazine. Anyone who has had cause to collect a prescription in Ilfracombe at any point over the past couple of years will know that it is anything but easy. From personal experience I can confirm that it usually involved long queues, longer waits and often several visits to different pharmacies. Which is why we are over the moon to bring you news of a brand new pharmacy which has opened in the town.
But this isn’t just another big, faceless corporation, this is a local, independent business run by young but extremely experienced individuals and located below Combe Coastal Medical Centre (the dream location, if we’re honest). We’d like to wish SMD Pharmacy the best of luck for the future - see page 12 for the full story. We also bring you news of another new venture coming to Ilfracombe this year - a beer festival in an unbelievably cool tipi! Ilfracombe Round Table (of
which I am a member, full disclosure) is organising the all-new event on the May 26-29 Bank Holiday weekend at the Landmark Theatre Green. Expect dozens of ales and ciders, street food vendors, live music, fire pits, kids entertainment and much, much more. And the best bit? Every pint you drink raises money for local charities and worthy causes. Charity never tasted so sweet!
The Ilfracombe MagazineA new and unique event is coming to Ilfracombe in 2023. Having decided to take a year off from the Birdman Competition, Ilfracombe Round Table are bringing an all-new beer festival to the town - hosted in a GIANT TIPI! Ilfracombe Beer Fest will be held on the Landmark Theatre Green on the sea front over the second May Bank
Holiday weekend - from May 26-29. As well as dozens of fantastic ales and ciders, the event will feature live music, street food vendors, children’s entertainment and even a large fire pit - all within the incredible World Inspired Tents Tipi. Held in conjunction with the Landmark Theatre and supported by Country Life Brewery, the beer festival will help raise money for local charities and worthy causes through Ilfracombe Round Table. Lead event organiser Matt Child said: “We are all so excited about this new event. The Landmark Beer Festival of year’s gone by were incredibly popular - but we wanted to add our own unique twist. For the serious beer
drinker, there will be an unrivalled selection of ales and ciders, complete with detailed tasting notes. For families and those just looking for a good time, there will be all manner of other drinks available - as well as bouncy castles, kids entertainment and some brilliant live bands and artists on our live stage. We look forward to seeing you there!” Further details will be released through Ilfracombe Round Table’s Facebook page soon.
A new independent pharmacy has opened in Ilfracombe. SMD Pharmacy is located in the former Lloyds Pharmacy shop below the Combe Coastal Medical Practice on St Brannocks Road. The new venture, operated by local phramacist Saray Mielgo and manager Harrison Perrin, opened its doors on Monday, January 16th. Both Saray and Harrison are well-known locally, having run the Woolacombe Pharmacy for the last six
years as part of Barton Pharmacy. Together with their new team, the pair hope to deliver an informed service, delivering high quality health care. Harrison said: “We are excited to be part of the Ilfracombe community and look forward to serving their health care needs. Setting up an independent pharmacy has been an exacting task which began over a year ago. But at last we are in a position to open the doors.
We have plans to extend our stock and services as SMD establishes its place within our community. We would like to thank everyone for their support in bringing our vision into a reality.”
