School’s out Friday for senior day

By Amanda Carney Online editor

This Friday, October 27, there are no classes. That’s for all Hutchinson Community College students here, but there is a reason for no classes Senior Day. This is a day

specifically set aside for high school senior students to come and visit HutchCC.

“The day gives potential students the opportunity to come and see more parts of the college and receive more information about the college, clubs and organizations,” said

HutchCC Admissions Director Corbin Strobel. Senior Day is specifically set aside for any high school seniors. Students come from all over just to see what HutchCC has to offer. Students meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Sports Arena,

where they check in. At this time, seniors can also can walk around and view clubs and organizations HutchCC offers. Seniors are also entered into drawings to win prizes. After this, the seniors get a welcome from some

of the HutchCC staff and administrators. Seniors then have group tours around the campus, where the students then get to witness the atmosphere that HutchCC has. The seniors then finish with lunch around 1 p.m., with more optional avail-

able tours after. The tours offer seniors a chance to meet new people and experience a college atmosphere. On average HutchCC expects anywhere from 200 to 400 high school seniors and their parents.

Field of Screams brings terror to students; Sports Jack Greenwood fills you in By Jack Greenwood Staff Writer Last weekend, I had the pleasure of venturing to Wichita to see if the Field of Screams really makes you scream. As a Halloween enthusiast, I was excited to see what sort of frights the field had in store for me and my friends. To begin with, the field does a great job with keeping a modern Halloween esthetic alive. The entryway includes spooky monsters, all highlighted by a neon

purple display. The costumes for just about every one of the creatures was great and original. I think what I liked most about the field is its diversity. One moment, you can be in a hillbilly shack, about to be eaten by a cannibalistic family, the next you’re in the infamous clown town being chased down by clowns that could go toe to toe with Pennywise. (OK maybe not Pennywise, but still very scary.) There’s also plenty of fog to dim your journey, and plenty of places to be

scared and lost. The entire field also uses fire and various other tricks that don’t require a human actor, but still get a fright or two out of you. The field is a bit shorter than usual, the field last time would take me about an hour to get through while this time it was only 30 minutes. But nevertheless, my humble Halloween heart was still pleased. Perhaps the field isn’t as horrifying as it may lead you to believe, but it supplies you with enough spine tingling and mysteri-

ous excitement to make you ready for Halloween. As for me, I loved the field. Maybe just simply because I was in my element, or maybe I really felt like something was going to reach out and grab me. Either way, I recommend going to the field if you can and enjoy the horrifying displays of gore and fear. Also, it makes it slightly more enjoyable if your roommate is terrified and screams at everything, even slightly scary object he sees. (Love you Dylan)

Top three shows that need a revival

It seems like Hollywood’s originality pool has run dry. In recent years, a plethora of shows from yesteryear have been revived. It seems like audiences don’t crave new, fresh ideas. They instead crave nostalgia. Recently, reboots for TV shows like “Will and Grace,” “Full House,” “That’s so Raven” and “American Idol” have all been canceled and brought back in either continuation or in a spin off. While most of the shows have achieved at least large viewership, we must ask ourselves, “Do all of these shows really need to come back?” Furthermore, “aren’t there more shows that really need a revival?” So I have gathered a list of shows, that are perhaps more worthy of a revival. running for three seasons, “X Factor” still being brought to life.
