The anticipation of the first snow Our view

It’s almost the middle of November already and the weather has definitely stepped out of the summer warmth. Since this is Kansas, it’s no surprise that we skipped fall weather and are already heading into cold winter breezes. When it first starts to snow, there will likely be more people upset with the weather than happy. The working commuters will be angry with the change and icy roads. And students will be upset that they’ll be forced to travel from class to class on slushy, slippery sidewalks. It has already been cold enough to send students wrapping up tight before class and Kansas seemed to luck out on Halloween when there were snow appearances across the state. Having to walk in the weather makes the snow much less exciting, especially when sidewalks start getting slippery.

Excited for Snowfall

But on the flip-side, if it’s cold outside then you might as well have fun with it and let your childhood joys with snow loose. Some people love winter, despite its gloomy climate. They are totally prepared with gloves, hats, boots, and big fluffy coats and waiting to get the hot cocoa out. Others might be hating this weather and wanting to stay indoors as much as they can. Especially for student that may have grown up in a warmer climate. There are already decorations indicating Christmas time and snow, there’s really no escaping it, so maybe we should just embrace the snowfall. If Kansas is lucky, then maybe we’ll get a foot or so of snow and then the real fun can begin. Snowmen, sledding, snow ice cream and un-burrying your car are all possible options of how to best enjoy the winter weather.

The unfortunate events of Brenna My senior picture experience

Since leaves are changing colors, the sky is becoming more colorful, and the weather is the right amount of chilly, fall seems to be the time of year for many high school seniors to take pictures. My best friend and I tried to take pictures, in which we got some good ones of her and I just wasn’t having a good modeling day, So I got my pictures taken in the spring. Even though I took mine in the spring of last year, I still had some pretty unfortunate things happen that I’m sure not most seniors have experienced.

First of all, I am very grateful to my sister’s best friend, Rheanna for taking my pictures because they turned out really well despite the interesting occurrences. I picked out three outfits for my pictures, a nice shirt with jeans and boots, and two dresses. One of my locations to take pictures at was at the Little Arkansas River and I went to some rocks near the water. I did some fun poses pretending to be Ariel from The Little Mermaid while laying on a big flat rock, and when I put my feet into the freezing water, I felt

tiny worms crawling all over. They were moving up my legs and I was pretty disgusted as you could imagine.

Bah-humbug

After that, I put on a different dress and matched it with some cowboy boots. We went to some old railroad tracks by the grain elevators. Rheanna found the spot she wanted me to squat at and as I was kneeling for the picture on the tracks, I heard a weird rattling noise. I turned and saw in front of me and off to the side, a snake coiled up getting ready to plunge at me. So I slowly stood up not to disturb the already upset snake, and made my way back to my sister and Rheanna. They looked at me and I just said, “There’s

a snake, we’re leaving.” They looked at where I was previously kneeling and saw a head poking out from one of the track beams. They started freaking out and my sister said she was going to have nightmares even though I was the one that saw it. When we got back in town, we walked over to Main street. I was already not in the mood to smile anymore. I was pretty much done with the day, but I still wanted to get enough pictures to choose from. If you are unfamiliar with Little River or Main Street in Little River,

usually it’s a ghost town on Sundays. Let’s just say that this wasn’t the case because when I was laying down for a certain pose in the middle of the street, several local town-folk and church ladies had to make sure I was okay and not injured. On the bright side, my pictures turned out great and I was really happy I got them done before graduation because I waited until the last minute to turn them in. It is also a good thing I was in Yearbook because I got to design the page that all of the senior pictures went.

Why Christmas music should NOT be played early

Why Christmas music should DEFINITELY be played early

Amanda Carney

Merissa Anderson

It’s that time of year again, Christmas. People have already started to pull out the decorations and the music. And once again it is too early to begin celebrating Christmas. Call me a Grinch but I am a firm believer in celebrating Thanksgiving before pulling out anything Christmas related. Today, many people think as soon as November first hits that it is time to pull out the Christmas music, and I could not disagree more. People have a tendency to jump from Halloween straight to Christmas, often forgetting Thanksgiving. There are two main reasons I dislike Christmas music before celebrating Thanksgiving. My number one reason is now days’ people forget to be thankful for what they already have, and

when people start playing Christmas music Nov. 1 no one stops to remember how blessed they are. No matter how rich or poor you are you have at least one thing you are thankful for. My second reason for disliking Christmas music is it’s just flat out annoying. Artist just take an old Christmas song and “update” it and try to put

a twist on it. There is not a Christmas song that I have not already heard. When I step into work, I hear the same songs on repeat for weeks and would like nothing more than to bang my head into wall than hear another Christmas song. I listen to the same Christmas songs year after year, it’s just like hearing the same song every time you turn on the radio. We all have that one song the radio has ruined, and for me that is Christmas music in general. However, if my someone wants to listen too Christmas music after Thanksgiving I am more than okay sucking up my dislike of Christmas and listening to it. After you have celebrated Thanksgiving you can pull out all the Christmas music or decorations you want.

It’s cold outside and Halloween has finally passed with undeniably means that it’s Christmas time! As any holly jolly, festive person know, Christmas time calls for Chistmas music absolutely everywhere - in grocery stores, on the radio, during class. And why not? The classical tunes that most have been listening to since childhood often bring back sentimental memories and make the winter months of freezing weather just a little bit more bearable. Many argue that people like myself that start playing Christmas music early and don’t stop till New Year are ignoring Thanksgiving but that’s simply not the case. I just would like to cel-

ebrate my favorite holiday, Christmas, for more than just one short month out of the year. Show me some equally festive turkey music and I’ll blare that too but until Thanksgiving music becomes a reality, I’ll start my Christmas music the day after Halloween and play it all the way up through January and love every second

of it - even if others don’t. I would say, even as someone that loves Christmas music, that after Halloween is the only respectable time to listen to Christmas music. Now I mmmaaayyyy have started listening to Christmas music all the way back in the beginning of October when I felt that first chilly wind but even I can acknowledge that listening to Christmas music that early may be a sin. But that didn’t stop me this year and it won’t stop me next year either! Let’s face it- the cold sucks and the cold sucks even more when there’s no snow and people are telling you not to listen to the best music made by mankind ever. So don’t listen to the haters - listen to Jingle Bells!
