THE HUMANITY CODE

A Documentary, Impact Campaign , and Clarion Call

“Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal - scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war.”

Statement on AI risk signed by AI scientists and notable public figures

If we are to encode our best vision in AI, we must first decode what truly matters to us.

CATALYST FOR AN URGENT MOMENT

The Humanity Code is “Inconvenient Truth” of our time ... with hope and action.

AI is advancing at an exponential pace, and experts predict that the emergence of artificial general intelligence (AGI), where machine intelligence matches ours, is imminent.

We have a narrow window to influence how AI develops and ensure it aligns with humanity’s best interests in “mind.”

This timely documentary will spark urgent dialogue on how we align on what we want, and how we imprint humanity’s unique code onto AI before it's too late.

The greatest gift of AI lies not in the problems it solves, but in the questions it teaches us to ask. ~Murat Durman

WHY THIS DOCUMENTARY?

...and why now?

Fear and fascination will drive viewership of this film as people grapple with AI's growing presence.

• Searches for "artificial intelligence” have doubled year-over-year on YouTube.

• Recent attention to award-winning AI documentaries like ”Coded Bias” and films like "AlphaGo" is skyrocketing.

• People are hungry to understand the implications – for jobs, for safety, and their children’s future – of AI being part of daily life.

• Pew found over 50% of Americans think AI will eliminate more jobs than it creates, showing public fear over AI's societal impact.

With Artificial General Intelligence on the horizon, the time is now for sparking global dialogue and action to secure our best possible future ... not the dystopia of science fiction.

BEYOND TECH: RE-IGNITING HUMANITY

This film explores what it means to be human so we can:

1. Harness the essence of our unique humanity for a future where AI doesn’t just serve us (or worse, harms us), it elevates us.

2. Clearly define our role and discover our own agency in shaping rapidly advancing technology right now.

The Humanity Code sparks the vital conversations about the intrinsic code of humanity – so people are no longer afraid of AI, but afraid to not be a part of shaping it .

INITIAL THOUGHTS ON THE STORY ARC

(One approach)

Shock and Awe

The film opens with a deluge of eyeopening facts and the expressed concerns of people from around the globe. It's a powerful introduction designed to engage viewers immediately and meet them where they are – by highlighting the awe-inspiring potential of AI while acknowledging fears and existential risks. This sets a dual narrative: AI as a monumental force that could elevate humanity or compound our deepest challenges.

The Visionaries

We introduce pivotal figures shaping AI via tech development, policy and regulation, and activism. They are diverse in background yet united in their quest to build and harness AI for the greater good. Their personal tales give us an intimate glimpse into their mission's soul, showcasing the resolve and obstacles encountered as they strive to positively direct AI’s narrative and coding positively.

The Conversations

The documentary then dives into the pulse of the global dialogue. From influential summits to intimate roundtables, we capture the robust exchange of ideas shaping AI's role in our world. The documentary weaves together the complex fabric of the deep discourse on humanity's essence our spirit, consciousness, and creativity. We explore the fundamental question: Is this our opportunity to recalibrate the course of human civilization?

The Solutions

The story shifts to those championing new, conscientious frameworks. This dynamic interplay, brimming with both conflict and cooperation, underscores the urgency of bridging divergent visions to craft an AI future underpinned by ethics and humanity. We investigate AI's capacity to replicate historical biases and errors, positioning these as vital lessons rather than inevitable outcomes. And we tackle the insidious nature of bias and envision AI's transformative potential in pivotal areas such as healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation.

Global Call to Action

Lastly, "The Humanity Code" extends a Global Call to Action, showcasing both the individual steps and global partnerships necessary to confront this universal challenge. It's a narrative that transcends borders, calling for unified action and wisdom in a pursuit of a shared future where AI serves as a beacon of, and catalyst for, our highest human ideals, and our collective responsibility to steer AI towards a future that mirrors the best of us.

BEHIND THE VISION

Heidi Lorenzen is the founder and executive director of The Humanity Code, a project that reflects Heidi’s lifelong passion for advancing and amplifying conscious leadership and sparking change.

Named one of the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Technology by the National Diversity Council in 2021, Heidi’s work is centered at the intersection of technology and impact. Her career as a senior Silicon Valley executive has given her access to the greatest minds, leaders and innovators in technology and A.I., and her personal commitment to probing the depths and possibilities of our humanity have led Heidi to this moment and this project.

Executive roles at technology pioneers and media leaders such as Polycom, Autonomy and Business Week combined with her previous tenure running marketing at Singularity University place Heidi in the epicenter of explosive technologies, their implications to our shared humanity, and futurism itself.

Deeply entrenched in the world of inner growth, Heidi’s first meditation experience was with the Dalai Lama in 1984, and she’s now a Chopra Global certified meditation instructor.

Heidi has direct access to, or one degree of separation from, the technologists, spiritual leaders, policymakers, and those fighting for equity and sustainability that are the building blocks of this documentary project. She’s a core member of communities that will embrace the film’s essential message — communities that span the worlds of large corporations, governments, Hollywood, technology, and mindfulness.

Heidi oversees the development, production and distribution of The Humanity Code documentary feature film, as well as the implementation of a high-impact call-to-action campaign that will empower us all to incorporate our highest ideals into artificial intelligence before we lose that window.
