Yeppoon Welcomes Reko Concept

A concept that was initially started by a Finnish farmer in 2013 which embraced Facebook as a convenient way for farmers to connect easily with customers was brought to Australia by Jacki Hinchey during the recent pandemic. Last week Reko (meaning fair consumption) began in Yeppoon.

Reko is simply an online farmer's market where customers can order directly from the farmer, prepay the farmer and collect directly from them during the weekly pick up on Wednesdays between 5.30pm and 6.30pm at the Tourist Information Centre in Ross Creek.

Local organisers Roxanne Hinton and Anthony Sylvester have brought this easy-to-use model to our community after learning about it at a workshop delivered by Taste of Capricorn (Capricorn Enterprise).

More information on how to be involved can be found on the Reko Yeppoon Facebook page

Thank you to those who have already nominated your Local Legends! We appreciate you taking the time to do this.

Unfortunately in October we bit off more than we could chew with commitments and were unable to schedule our first interview.

We have decided to postpone the launch of this column until the New Year Edition of January 2023.

NOW LAUNCHING JANUARY '23

The great news is that you can still nominate your deserving local legend by emailing us at thehubcapricorncoast@gmai l.com
