Welcome to November

Your connection to all things Body, Mind & Soul on the Capricorn Coast

Hello & Welcome to the November Edition of The Hub Capricorn Coast

October saw a flurry of activity for us and we've had to take a step back to take a deep breath and re group!

The Pineapple Festival Parade was our first public event and we entered a float showcasing some of the business who continually support The Hub Capricorn Coast and our mission of keeping everyone connected in the body, mind & soul world

Thank you to Di Sully, Sissy Mylrea and Peter Nebauer for your help decorating the float and to Gavin Schick for the loan of your truck for the day

Check out the photos of our float later on in this edition.

Wellness at the Coast was a great day and opportunity for us to meet some of our local readers and to spread the word with providers in the community about the work that we are doing and our mission to bring forth connection and community in a positive manner. Thank you to the Livingstone Shire Council Events Team for organising a brilliant event.

Sunday 16th October saw our first Walk for Wellbeing The day was a huge success with more than 120 participants walking from Farnborough to Kemp Hill in support of Queensland Mental Health Week. You can read more about the day and check out the pictures in the coming

pages.

November sees us beginning preparations for our December Christmas Edition We hope to bring to you a showcase of local businesses and their offerings so that we can continue to support local and help small business to thrive in the community.

This month will also see us planning for the year coming in 2023 If you have any ideas for events or topics you would like to see raised in the magazine, please feel free to email us and we'll take on board your suggestions.

Until next month, we hope November is a brilliant month for you and look forward to connecting with you on social media throughout the month!

120 Walkers Make the 1st Walk for Wellbeing a Huge Success

The weather held up for our first Walk for Wellbeing on Sunday 16th October with more than 120 walkers joining forces to support our first event for Queensland Mental Health Week.

The walk commenced from Farnborough Beach with a short drink break at Ross Creek provided by Queensland Fire & Rescue Walkers then continued on to Lammermoor Beach for a break and morning tea of fresh fruit and muffins served by our fabulous volunteers Darlene, Cathy & Ronnie.

Walkers then headed off on the final stretch to Kemp Hill where a BBQ was cooked by Adam and his helpers from Mr Perfect to feed the hungry walkers upon finishing. Many walkers sat and enjoyed the scenery of the Kemp Hill park while enjoying a sausage.

Feedback received from the Walk for Wellbeing was extremely positive The walk will return in

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the following businesses and supporters who helped make the day the huge success that it was:

Bell Park Bakery

Emu Park Meats

Qld Fire & Rescue Service (Peter & Stuart)

Mr Perfect Gather 4703

Yeppoon Welcomes Reko Concept

A concept that was initially started by a Finnish farmer in 2013 which embraced Facebook as a convenient way for farmers to connect easily with customers was brought to Australia by Jacki Hinchey during the recent pandemic Last week Reko (meaning fair consumption) began in Yeppoon

Reko is simply an online farmer's market where customers can order directly from the farmer, prepay the farmer and collect directly from them during the weekly pick up on Wednesdays between 5.30pm and 6.30pm at the Tourist Information Centre in Ross Creek.

Local organisers Roxanne Hinton and Anthony Sylvester have brought this easy to use model to our community after learning about it at a workshop delivered by Taste of Capricorn (Capricorn Enterprise).

More information on how to be involved can be found on the Reko Yeppoon Facebook page

Let’s talk about Rituals..........

Ceremony and Ritual go hand in hand We use ceremony to acknowledge the significant events and to celebrate the most important occasions in our lives; like Marriage, Coming of Age, the birth of a child, or the death of loved ones.

We use Ritual within the ceremony as an action which represents something of deeper significance. For example, a simple ritual such lighting a candle can hold much deeper significance than simply creating a little flame, while choosing to tie a cord around your hands when making marriage vows represents way more than just a knot in a piece of cord

Rituals help us build connection with families and community, they help us transition through the stages of our lives, and they help us to acknowledge the most important events in our lives Rituals help us with actions even when we can’t quite find the words to express ourselves in joy and sorrow, and they help us to create and sustain identity.

One of the greatest joys in my role as a celebrant is exploring the ritual options with clients and helping them discover the ritual that really resonates with them so they can include it in their celebration. The list of Unity rituals which couples might choose from is extensive, so I thought we might explore a few of them in upcoming columns. We’ll look at ancient rituals like handfasting which is where ‘tying the knot’ came from, using an oathing stone (yes ‘set in stone’ is a real thing!) the loving cup, casting pebbles, blending sand, unity flames, truce bells, just to name a few wedding rituals

We’ll also explore some beautiful rituals to welcome new arrivals to the family and also to farewell loved ones at the end of their lives.

If there is a ritual you’d like to know more about, or if you have a favourite ritual you’d like to share, please let me know.

Until next time

A Holistic Approach to Mental Health

As a Naturopath, our approach to healthcare is “ person centered” and, through the Treat the Whole Person (tolle totum) principle, applies a holistic model of care that recognizes the whole person, taking into account the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the person

Everyone experiences mental health differently and everyone has a different path to recovery that is influenced by their age, gender, heritage, language, faith, culture, sexual and gender identity, relationship status, life experience, beliefs, values, current life stage, financial situations, support network, geographical location, and more

A holistic approach to mental health means providing support to the whole person, not just their mental health needs and focuses on a person ’ s wellness and not just their illness, condition or symptoms.

So what does a Holistic Approach to Mental Health look like?

A Holistic Approach to Mental Health may look different for everyone depending on the person's condition, their symptoms, where they are at in their recovery, their goals, values, and beliefs, financial situation, and support network.

A Holistic Approach to Mental Health delves deep into a person's past history, medical history, diet and nutrition, lifestyle factors, stress management, sleep, substance use, self care, movement, general health, gut health, social life, home life, work life balance, self talk, self love, psychological aspects and more. For my patients, it often combines multiple modalities of healthcare to support the individual's needs and goals and includes referrals to other practitioners.

Practitioners you might consider engaging with for a Multi modality approach to Mental Health Care may include a General Practitioner (GP), Counsellor, Naturopath, Nutritionist, Kinesiologist, Acupuncturist, Bowen Therapist, Mental Health Nurse, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Specialist, Psychologist, Psychiatrist, .

14
15

Massage Therapist, Chiropractor, Personal Trainer, Mental Health or Life Coach, Social Worker, Art Therapist, Dietician, Physiotherapist, or anyone in betweennot just provide acute symptomatic relief, but will also provide support and encouragement toward implementing strategies for long term support and overall wellbeing.

Don’t be afraid to seek support if needed, whether it’s from a family member, friend, colleague or loved one or support from a professional It doesn’t have to be a psychologist or counsellor, you could feel better just after having a chat with your massage therapist, hairdresser, nutritionist, naturopath, personal trainer, yoga teacher, friend, or family member

Editor's Note: Remember that you can email in your natural health questions for Caitlin to answer in an upcoming column Either private message us on our Social Media pages or email thehubcapricorncoast@gmail com

What is an End of Life Doula?

The most wonderful, reassuring and comforting thing an End of Life Doula (EOL Doula for short) can do for you is to help you face death with a little less fear and a lot more love and compassion …for you and your loved ones.

An EOL Doula can help provide support and comfort for the dying and their loved ones, respite care for family, help plan and conduct a vigil, with mourning and post loss support.

It might be that you, or a loved one have received a terminal diagnosis and you are not sure how to prioritise your/their ‘bucket list’ to be sure those things MOST important to you/them are tackled first.

An EOL Doula can help you prioritise that bucket list, write your stories, share your legacy and pass on the most important message you wish to leave behind. Yes, even help you write your own eulogy or the eulogy of a loved one or hold a Living Funeral

They can spend more time with you and/or your loved ones in those weeks and days closer to the end, where you need a helping hand to share the load and the love. No matter how much we love, we all need to take time out for ourselves, especially during these stressful times

EOL Doulas provide non judgemental, non medical support to those nearing the end of life and their families. It’s about empowering you and your loved ones to enable you to make decisions about end of life and post life care

Desley Cowley and Loraine Donovan Fox are long time friends who have joined forces to offer an End of Life Service in Central Queensland. Join our Facebook Group to learn more.

Moon Musings November's Cycles & Eclipses

Your monthly guide to what's happening in the astrological world

On November 8th at 11:02 AEST we see the Full moon in Taurus Accompanied by a lunar eclipse!

Eclipse season intensifies the energy of this full moon and the signs in which it sits.

Sun is Scorpio has the energy of Transformation, intensity, rebirth and control while the Moon in Taurus highlights how we feel about our values, our security, finances and family

The theme during this full moon eclipse is about letting go. Surrender. Accepting that change is a part of our evolution and growth, not something to fear as Taurus sometimes does We must try to surrender our attachment to the material items that make us feel safe and instead find gratitude in what it is we truly value. Our friends? our families? all of our loved ones?

In order to transform and grow we need to have our feet planted firmly on the ground, connected to Earth. How do we understand ourselves on a deeper level and what are our inner most wants and needs?

Taurus finds stability in the home, in the family unit and what their core values are Scorpio wants to go deeper, to understand who we truly are at the core. Only then can we fully accept ourselves and show up in the world as authentic beings.

We also see the energy of Uranus shaking things up a little with a conjunction to the moon

Uranus is the freedom seeker, futurist with bolts of energy to push things along. Uranus wants change! Moon in Taurus may resist so pay attention to that inner tug of war and find some stillness to really hear what it is you need

Do you need to change the way you view the world?

Are you values and beliefs still aligned with who you are today?

19

Do you feel free or are you holding yourself back for experiencing true joy?

Take some time to sit with these thoughts and maybe journal out what comes up for you Be gentle on yourself during this time, there is some big energy around.

24th November at 8:57am AEST the New Moon in Sagittarius hits the sky

When the Sun and the Moon meet in the same sign it brings our emotions and inner world together with our life force energy and output in the world This is a time for planting seeds and setting intentions for the month ahead.

Sagittarius is the seeker, always on the search for more knowledge and a greater understanding of the world.

You may feel pulled to set some goals or start working towards a mission that gives you a deeper understanding of what it all means, what you are here for?

Sagittarius is the endless optimist and likes to look at the bright side of life, everything has meaning!

Where in your life to you feel you need more meaning?

How can you develop a greater sense of understanding around your life?

Travel and spirituality are topics that spark the Sagittarius soul. Maybe it is time to plan an adventure or dive a bit deeper into your spiritual practice

These Moons will affect all of us differently depending on where it falls in your chart.

Fixed Signs

(Taurus/Scorpio/Leo/Aquarius) and anyone with strong Taurus/scorpio or 2nd/8th house placements will feel the impact of the Full moon the most. For the New moon it is the Mutable signs (Virgo/Gemini/Sagittarius/Pisces) and those with strong Sagittarius or 9th house placements.
