It’s here, Google’s next-generation text-to-3D generator powered by AI.

Well, sort of. A proof-of-concept paper is floating on the internet, so to speak. DreamFusion, a textto-3D image generator unveiled by Google back in 2021, evolved from Dream Fields. Similar to Dream Fields, DreamFusion also uses a pretrained text-to-image cue model in conjunction with a Neural Radiance Field (NeRF), a neural network that can produce synthetic 3D scenes using incomplete 2D datasets, to create its 3D images.

Where’s the twist, you ask? DreamFusion currently employs its own tech nology, Imagen, a rival to Google’s DALL-E 2, in contrast to Dream Fields, which made use of OpenAI’s CLIP technology as that latter pre-trained model.

So in essence, Google scrapped Elon Musk’s OpenAI technology and de veloped its own. You can’t go wrong when you’re developing in-house, you see.

“Happy to announce DreamFusion, our new method for Text-to-3D!” Ben Poole, a research scientist at Google Brain and co-author of the proof-ofconcept paper, wrote on Twitter. “We optimize a NeRF from scratch using a pre-trained text-to-image diffusion model. No 3D data needed!”

Dream- Fusion currently employs its own technology, Imagen, a rival to Google’s DALL-E 2, in contrast to Dream Fields, which made use of OpenAI’s CLIP technology as that latter pre-trained model.

Unlike all things on the Internet, DreamFusion isn’t a proponent of WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get). As its creators explain the paper, the AI-generated forms that are previewed on its website are “coherent, with high-quality normals, surface geometry and depth, and are relightable with a Lambertian shading model.”

Where does that lead us? Dream Fusion might not provide us images that are as photorealistic as DALL-E 2. Yet. The depth makes sense, the proportions are correct, and so on. And while we don’t mean to dispar age OpenAI, this new generation of the technology is unquestionably an aesthetic improvement over the pre vious one.

HOW IT WORKS

A 3D scene is optimized using the “Imagen” text-to-image diffusion model. The Google team also suggests using the Score Distillation Sampling (SDS) approach to optimize samples in a 3D envi ronment with any number of parameters.

In order to set up the differentiable mapping, a 3D scene parameterization that resembles neural radiation fields, or NeRFs, was used. Even if SDS creates passable scenes, DreamFusion enhances the geometry with additional regularizers and opti mization techniques. The trained NeRFs have superior geometry and are coherent.

Given that it took 2D AI art tools like DALL-E less than two years to go from original announcement to wide public release, they might arrive much sooner than you expect.

There is currently no public access provided to DreamFusion.

Google’s announcement page does not contain any sign-up links. This is due to ethical considerations. The Imagen diffusion model used by Dream Fusion was trained using photos from the LAION400M dataset, which includes some undesirable images.

DreamFusion is only the beginning. A highly optimized version that can op erate rapidly on your local machine with little VRAM will be made avail able soon.

This will have a significant effect on how VFX studios produce commercial projects or even feature-length films. Consider the possibility of instructing AI to create a 3D animated movie, for instance.

The first of China’s own is Jiajia. She was created by a team at the University of Science and Technology in China. Jiajia looks like a Chinese lady, and according to reports, she was modeled after five students. The team leader urged the public to expect more from Jiajia as they will be adding more human expressions soon.

Making it to our list is a robot from Osaka University and Mixi. Alter 3 is another generation of the Alter series. The robot is known for its love of mu sic. Previous Alters were reportedly involved in an opera, lending their voices to the event. However, Alter 3 was noted to have conducted one of the biggest orchestra events in Tokyo.

The next on our list is Erica. Erica is a female robot that has a typical human look. She is an advanced robot and was developed by IRL. “Erica” stands for Erato Intelligent Conversational Android. Erica is also going to star in a movie called “b” and fans can’t wait. According to reports, the movie has a budget of about $70 million. This advanced humanoid robot has impressive features that make it look and act just like humans do.

Kime

Think of serving, then think of Kime. Kime is a robot specifically designed to be a bartender. It was created by Macco Robotics in Spain. The robot is used in restaurants and the like in serving both dishes and drinks. It is known to do so in a small amount of time, which makes it efficient and faster. Kime has been observed to serve over 300 drinks in an hour. We are truly impressed by this robot.

Junko Chihira

Junko was created by Toshiba in Japan. She is a humanoid robot currently serving the tourist industry. Junko can speak three languages, which include English, Chinese, and Japanese. She is well known for her ability to serve as a customer service personnel, where she welcomed guests. However, she joined a tourist organization to provide relevant information to them. Junko is capable of performing mul tiple tasks across different industries.

Geminoid F

The next humanoid robot on our list is Geminoid F. She was developed by Osaka Univer sity and two other organizations. She was modeled after a real Japanese lady and looks exactly like her alongside, having her facial expressions too. Geminoid F is unable to walk and uses a wheelchair to move around. Aside from this, she is well known for her good looks and her ability to show different facial expressions.

Atlas

The final humanoid robot on our list is named Atlas. This is a robot used by security forces to undertake dangerous missions. It was created by Boston Dynamics in 2013. The robot is known to practice some skills, such as motion-flipping. With its agile body parts, Atlas is capable of moving around during rescue missions.
