Choosing the right school for your son or daughter is a difficult but crucial decision. I am very pleased to commend to you Thomas Knyvett College which

has proved to be a comprehensive school that offers a high quality education to all its

students. For many years it has been closely linked with Howard of Effingham School, a highly

successful Surrey comprehensive, which was judged in its most recent inspection by Ofsted to

be an “outstanding school” in February 2009.

Governors have formalised and cemented the future of the linked schools in an Academy Chain by the formation of a Multi-Academy Trust known as The Howard Partnership.

As Executive Head I am accountable for the performance of each school within our chain of linked academies. I am very fortunate indeed to have such a talented Head of School as Mrs Marillat who is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the college, which allows me to concentrate on the strategic future of all Howard Partnership schools. The focus of The Partnership is to provide a quality education for all its students. This is achieved through our student-centred and personalised approach where the individual student lies at the heart of everything we do.

In “bringing out the best” we will do all we can to ensure that every student fulfils his or her potential and achieves more than they ever thought they could.

Although the first such venture in Surrey, Academy Chains of this sort are growing in number over the whole country as schools come to realise the tremendous potential of working in partnership. This collaboration has already reaped considerable benefits for the students, staff and communities of both schools. From a Thomas Knyvett perspective we have seen an outstanding rise in standards to become one of the most improved schools in the country.

In the most recent inspection in December 2013 Ofsted’s judgement for Thomas Knyvett College was leadership and management are ‘outstanding’ the quality of teaching is ‘good’. coupled with its Science subject specialism, has had tremendous benefit for Thomas Knyvett

As a comprehensive school, we provide opportunities for students of all aptitudes to achieve the very best standards.

An excellent range of extra-curricular activities, including sport, is available and the college’s academic success has dramatically and sustainably improved.

Our Summer 2014 GCSE results were once again quite staggering and demonstrate the full impact of The Howard Partnership.

The key performance indicators are: • 60% of Year 11 gained 5 or more A*-C including English and Mathematics • 78% of Year 11 gained 5 or more A*- C passes • 76% of Year 11 gained A*-C passes in English • 66% of Year 11 gained A*-C passes in Mathematics • 76% of Year 11 gained A*-C passes in Science • 82% of Year 11 gained A*-C passes in ICT This means that students at Thomas Knyvett College perform well above the national average and we are consistently one of the highest performing schools in the local area. As well as achieving excellent results in the core subjects the college delivers high academic standards across a broad range of subjects thus successfully enabling students’ potential, interests and aspirations to be exceeded.

The Physical Education programme includes teaching in rugby, football, cross-country, athletics, netball, cricket, basketball, rounders, tennis, badminton, volleyball, dance, gymnastics and health-related fitness.

Students learning foreign languages are encouraged to take part in visits to France and Spain. In all such activities, we recognise their tremendous educational value and enjoy excellent support from parents in encouraging students to take part.

In the case of absence we ask parents to telephone on each day of absence and a letter should be brought to the college on the student’s return. Casual absences and holidays during term time are severely detrimental to a student’s progress and will not be authorised; if attendance problems do occur, the Educational Welfare Officer will be involved, as is also the case in other matters of student welfare including employment and liaison with other agencies.
