EC ISD Trustees Receive Facilities Study
The East Chambers ISD Board of Trustees met in regular session on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 6:00 pm. in the Administration Building located at 216 Champions Loop in Winnie, Texas. One of the main items on the agenda was to receive a comprehensive facilities study that was conducted and presented by TASB(Texas Association of School Boards). The purpose of the study was to evaluate and record all of the buildings and the associated items such as A/C systems, wiring, plumbing, etc. and the conditions of all of those items. Grady Slaydon with TASB went through and hit the highlights of each and every building in his report to the board and answered any questions. Overall, the District is in pretty good shape with the exception of portions of the Junior High and Superintendent Scott Campbell made the comment that a discussion would need to be held concerning a decision that would need to be made in the not to distant
future about tearing down parts of the Junior High and rebuilding or continuing to try to patch the outdated structure. No action was taken on this agenda item. An announcement was made that all trustees have met or exceeded their required continuing education hours as prescribed by Texas law and discussion was held concerning the drop in attendance from the normal 97% to the current 92%. Enrollment is currently at 1505 students for the District with 73% of those participating in the free or reduced meal plan. The meeting adjourned at 7:14 pm. and the next regular meeting of the East Chambers ISD Board of Trustees will be Monday, November 9, 2020 at 6:00 pm. in the Administration Building located at 216 Champions Loop in Winnie, Texas.

Chambers County Sheriff's Office Catches Suspect
Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that on Friday, October 16, 2020, at approximately 11:00 a.m. a Detective with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, was traveling southbound on South Main to the Oak Island area. The Detective was attempting to interview a suspect, Chris Molina, in reference
to several burglaries that have recently occurred in the Anahuac area. While doing so he observed the suspect vehicle he was looking for, a red Kia Rondo, approaching from behind. The Detective pulled to the side of the road at which time the suspect vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed. Marked units were
requested to assist with stopping the vehicle. When units tried to stop the vehicle, it failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued at high rates of speed northbound on FM 562. Other units were waiting at 562 and Eagle Ferry Road where “Stop Sticks were able to be successfully deployed, disabling the front passenger side tire of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle continued traveling northbound on FM 562, through Hwy 65 towards IH-10. Texas DPS and Texas Game Wardens assisted in the pursuit. Due to the suspect vehicle losing its front tire, the driver turned into White Park and drove to the boat ramp area. Molina exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies, DPS Troopers, and Game Wardens pursued on foot as well. The suspect fled across a canal that branches off of Turtle Bayou, with Deputies still in pursuit.
A large perimeter was set and a Chambers County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was called to the scene to assist, as well as boat assets from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Game Wardens. A short while later, Molina was located in a storage shed on a property on Cain Road. Molina was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Chambers County Jail. An inventory of the vehicle revealed an AR-15 pistol along with Christopher Molina’s driver’s license. Molina, 23, of Anahuac, is a convicted felon and is being looked at for burglaries occurring within our county. Molina was charged with Evading Detention in a Motor Vehicle ($100,000 bond), Evading Detention on Foot ($4,000 bond) and Felon in Possession of a Firearm ($100,000 bond).
