Friday Night Football is Back.......Bucs Win 34-7
Chambers County crews were photographed cleaning ditches in the area known as "Teacherville" last week as they worked to get water out of the area faster. By Wade Thibodeaux  Chambers County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 9:30 am. via video conferencing. Most of the Court's agenda dealt with items related to the West side of the County and the meeting began with 243 public comments being submitted in opposition to the County giving up ownership of Fisher Road to TGS Cedar Port Partners, LP. Six of the public comments were read out loud during the court session and all were entered into the record. After much discussion, the Commissioners tabled the agenda item dealing with an agreement for Fisher Road. The court set a date of September 8, 2020 for a public hearing on the tax rate and budget, but that meeting was past the print deadline for this week's version of The Hometown Press. More information about the tax rate and budget will be available in future editions of The Hometown Press. In other news besides
the official court meeting, Chambers County crews were seen cleaning out roadside ditches and according to Commissioner Jimmy Gore, the crews are working with Trinity Bay Conservation District and TxDot to identify and cleanout existing bottlenecks in drainage ditches. Work on the ditches will continue throughout the calendar year and additional money will be budgeted to hire contractor crews to come in and assist County crews in order to catch up on scheduled cleaning of ditches. Crews are working in the areas that were hardest hit by recent floods and the areas that can do the most good in the shortest amount of time required to open up the ditches, but the objective is to clean all of the ditches on the East side of the County. In some areas, additional pipe crossings may be installed to allow more water to pass through the openings and into the larger drainage ditches. Increased capacity and faster flow rates are the objectives of all agencies involved.
Ernest Ceasar(#20) muscles it out of his own end zone after the Bucs defense kept the HJ Hawks from scoring on a 4th down play.
By Wade Thibodeaux   Friday night football is back as the Bucs played their first official game of the 2020 season as their game last week was cancelled due to Hurricane Laura. East Chambers got off to a somewhat slow start as they could only muster 7 points in the first half, but did hold the Hardin Jefferson
Hawks scoreless to take a 7-0 lead into the locker room. East Chambers came out fired up and ready to play ball in the third quarter as they took advantage of some big plays and some HJ mistakes to score three times in the third and take a commanding 28-0 lead into the fourth quarter. The last period saw each
team cross the goal line one time, but for the Hawks it was too little, too late and the game ended with a 34-7 victory for the Buccaneers. East Chambers had 280 yards on the ground out of 19 attempts for a whopping 20 yards per carry average with 4 TD's and the passing department was pretty good also as the Bucs
were 5 of 7 for 89 yards and a touchdown. East Chambers totalled 369 yards of offense for the contest. Some of the individual stats included Ernest Ceasar (#20) with 6 carries for 154 yards(25.67 yards per carry) and 2 touchdowns, while his mate in the backfield Brayden Guillory(#1) had 4 touches for (contd on page 4)
By Wade Thibodeaux  The East Chambers Band honored the deceased band director from Hardin Jefferson High School last Friday
evening by forming an HJ on the field and performing the song Amazing Grace. The Cheerleaders from Hardin Jefferson
gathered together with the Cheerleaders from East Chambers in the middle of the field during the performance. The
