As promised, here is part 2 of the details of our one-day bicycle tour through Grape Escape Wine Tours, who was kind enough to give us a personalized guided “ride”. First stop…
INNISKILLIN WINES INC. A fabulous choice winery to visit, as one of the pioneers in the Canadian wine industry, founded in 1975 by Karl Kaiser and Donald Ziraldo, Inniskillin is largely credited with putting Canadian wines on the world wide wine map. An award that proved to be a turning point not only for Inniskillin, but also the Canadian wine industry. It was 1991 and in this competition, Inniskillin’s 1989 Vidal icewine won the Gold Medal at the ultra prestigious Grand Prix d’Honneur Awards at Vinexpo in Bordeaux France. Inniskillin also produces award winning table wines and is a must see, particularly for your out of town visitors! Our second stop… in contrast to Inniskillin Wines, Pondview Estate Winery
PONDVIEW ESTATE WINERY Although Pondview Estate Winery opened its doors in 2010… that is not to say that this family owned winery is not steeped in old world traditions, going back three generations of grape growers with family roots in Sicily. Owned by 3rd generation grape grower Lou Puglisi, who was awarded the prestigious Grape King Award in 2008, Lou and his wife/co-owner Adriana, celebrate old world traditions and make you feel at home, while enjoying their fine wines made with their own grapes, often paired with artisan cheeses. We enjoyed a selection of local cheeses, one of which was paired with Pondview’s Harmony Red.

On our final stop, we got to go to what is trending and something we do! Not only trending, but good for you and our environment!
FROGPOND FARM ORGANIC WINERY It was a true pleasure to be greeted here at Ontario’s first organic winery, by the very hospitable and passionate owner and winemaker Jens, as well as the sheep, the bull frogs, chickens and hens, and of course the guinea fowl, all of which play an important role on this organic farm and organic winery. The animals and the various plants help create a balanced ecosystem, creating harmony in nature, which Jens believes is “the prerequisite for a truly authentic wine”. This is a charming, small winery that produces a range of wines including a Cabernet Merlot, which we enjoyed at the picnic table with our local cheese and yummy crackers! So we are in the final stretch now of our wine tour on wheels, feeling very relaxed, satisfied and well oxygenated with the clean, pure air and beautiful surroundings we have experienced over the last couple of hours. Our cups runneth over and our baskets do too, with purchases we have made along the way, truth be told Jacquie has taken care of our precious parcels with delivery back to Kurtz’s. Full circle, we are back now at Kurtz’s Orchard Farm and Marketplace… but wait, one final stop, a quick visit into the marketplace where alas… we find all is local, even the stupendous, handmade, Turkish delight! Eureka! Life just doesn’t get any better! We sincerely hope you share with your visitors a little of what we have to offer here in our Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country. SPECIAL OLYMPICS “On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, we want to recognize and congratulate the accomplished athletes and teams who competed for the gold during the celebrated and much anticipated 2017 Special Olympics Provincial Summer Games. Let me acknowledge Chief Jennifer Evans and Peel Regional Police for dedicating countless hours, energy and effort to ensuring that the games would be a complete success, and for helping bring our community together through sport.

I also want to recognize the coaches, families, friends and neighbours for going above and beyond to help inspire, mentor and train those athletes who took part during these games. The hard work, commitment, discipline and respect that goes into being a renowned athlete, are important skillsets that apply in all aspects of life. Investing in local athletes is at the heart of city-building and Council and staff are proud that so many of our city facilities were used as venues for athletes to take part in spirited competition throughout the games. We approach our efforts through the lens of supporting our local sport community. We invest in community and recreational centres. We ensure parks are built with in-demand athletic facilities. And we partner with other governments to secure funding to make these important investments. Council genuinely believes that citizens walk into our community and recreation centres; step on to our baseball diamonds, soccer fields and into our arenas; swim in our public pools; and that these experiences help budding athletes realize their dreams of competing professionally. Sport also transcends language and culture. It is a unifying force for good. This is especially true in such a diverse and welcoming community like Mississauga.
CONGRATULATIONS once again to everyone who competed in the 2017 Special Olympics Provincial Summer Games. Mississauga is proud of you and we will always cheer you on!�

THE STORY OF THE BROWN & LOVE FAMILIES Story by: Timothy A. Brown
I
n the late 1950s Joan and Roy Brown moved to a small community in the West Toronto Township, called Lorne Park. Eventually, it became part of the City of Mississauga in 1974. In the early 1960s, Beth and Jerry Love moved to the same community a short distance away.
In 1966, two young boys were wandering through the backyard fields, because at that time there were no fences and little concern about children playing and running free. One of those little boys was Timmy Brown and the other David Love and we literally bumped into each other. We were three years old and managed to get back to each of our houses, with the other in tow, and introduce our new friend to our parents. Jerry, Timothy, Bonnie, Beth & Karen.
“TO THIS DAY, 50 YEARS LATER, I AM STILL DEAR “FRIENDS WITH DAVID LOVE." David's father, Jerry, worked for the City of Mississauga when it was a very small organization. He commented on that fact recently when we were fortunate to meet with the Mayor of Mississauga, Bonnie Crombie, and our Ward 2 Councillor, Karen Ras. We were at a fund raiser to donate to the Jerry Love Children's Fund. 12

Jerry Love worked tirelessly with the City of Mississauga to build its Recreation and Parks Department. Upon his retirement, he had formed a charity to aid children and the outgoing mayor at the time, Hazel McCallion, decided to name the charity after Jerry himself and the Jerry Love Children's Fund was formed. In his retirement, Jerry continues to work tirelessly to expand the program. This charity supports the need for lower-income families to be able to send their children to day camps in the City of Mississauga. Those who qualify are part of the city’s program under the care of qualified instructors. One hundred per cent of the private donations are allocated to subsidize the cost of children of attending these day camps.
O
ne of the reasons I am passionate about this charity, which my company has supported for many years, is that all the proceeds go to the intended destination. With some charities, this is not the case.
“I AM CONFIDENT THAT THIS PROGRAM IS FULLY FUNDED TO THE BENEFIT OF THE CHILDREN AND PROVIDES A WELL NEEDED SUMMER BREAK FOR THEIR PARENTS." To this day, The Browns and the Loves remain friends, meet and communicate regularly. My friendship with David, that started so many years ago, will last for the rest of our lives.

Presently, David and I are planning to ask Jerry if he will allow us to ensure that the legacy of the Jerry Love Children's Fund continues in perpetuity - long beyond anybody's ability to continue to serve. I encourage all private citizens, small businesses or corporations to support this wonderful charity that supports the families of Mississauga. There are children who need the opportunity to play and bump into each other and form life-long, meaningful friendships.

The second anniversary of #MFWK2017 began with a Press Conference on July 14th at Company Resto Bar to meet some of the incredible designers. #MFWK2017 Runway Gala was held in the Port Credit Memorial Arena on Saturday, July 22nd with over a dozen amazing designers showcasing their creativity. Before the show there was a flurry of activity as more than fifty models were getting their hair styled and makeup applied by some very talented hair stylists and makeup artists. Events were happening all week with the grand finale The Runway Gala at the Port Credit Memorial Arena.

IF YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PREPARE, BE READY TO THINK ABOUT: • Should the camera be held horizontally (landscape) or vertically (portrait)?
OUT-OF-FOCUS PHOTOS ARE OFTEN AVOIDABLE WITH BE STEADY TECHNIQUES: • Hold the camera with both hands. • Hold the camera as close to your body as possible, typically with your elbows against your chest. • Press down smoothly and do not jab at the shutter release button. • Consider using a tree, a pole or a wall to further steady yourself and the camera. • Action photos will often be out-of-focus unless you adjust your camera for a faster shutter speed. Your camera may have a "sports" setting that can be used to greatly increase your chance of capturing sharp action photos. If the camera allows for this adjustment, a speed of 1/500 second should be used as a minimum. • Action adjustments aren’t just for professional athletes. Even children playing, running or dancing will likely be in better focus. • A faster shutter speed will also help those with shaky hands.

n my opinion, this is the best way to serve corn... period! I buy the crema and Cotija cheese at my local Mexican grocery store, Perola Supermarket in Kensington Market, but in a pinch you can substitute these ingredients. Serves: 5-10
INGREDIENTS • 5 corn on the cob, husked and cleaned. Cut into 2-3 pieces, or leave whole
DIRECTIONS STEP 0 1 If you are leaving the corn whole, I like to skewer the end of each piece

On July 4th, Lakeview Library celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a celebration and block party that included cake cutting, pizza and family-friendly activities for all ages. The Militia had set up camp, there was a big dance party and lots of demonstrations. It was a perfect night. 01

MAC N' CHEESE FESTIVAL If you're ever looking for more urban food festivals in the city, this one is for you-the annual Toronto Mac N' Cheese Festival has made its way to Mississauga this summer. The festival took place in Port Credit and ran from July 2830. The 3-day event was organized by Philip Suos, who was also the festival director behind recently formed Junk Food Festival. "A lot of people are excited about the opportunity to taste the dishes and it gets chefs thinking [about what kind of dishes to prepare]," said Suos.

This festival also helped to raise money for charity, The Compass, and provided a platform for local restaurants to promote themselves. It was a great success.

The 15th Annual Mississauga Amacon Rotary Rib Festival was held from July 13th-16th, at the Mississauga Celebration Square. It had 13 rib vendors and a wide variety of other tasty food options, to satisfy sweet and savory cravings. Nothing goes better on a summer's day than a cold beverage.
