Making Wellness Work For You

Exercise Physiologist, Mark Modifica, who provides residents with customized and medically based conditioning plans and monitors progress towards their individual wellness goals, staffs our fitness center. Individualized programs are based upon safe exercise guidelines derived from participants’ screening data. Group fitness are throughout the week. Including chair exercises, yoga, strength training, walking groups, and much more. Based upon current scientific research and evaluation, our equipment is designed to enhance cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and to help reduce the risk of injury.

The Doty Aquatic Center

The pool at the Doty Aquatic Center is intended to meet the various therapeutic and exercise needs of older adults. It provides opportunities for lap swimming, water exercise classes, and aquatic therapy services. And it’s open 7 days a week for open swim.

The four-lane, temperature-controlled pool is 4-41/2 feet deep throughout and is accessed easily and gradually with steps into shallow water or by a handicap chair lift. In addition to the men’s and women’s locker rooms, our family locker room offers privacy and adequate space for assistance.

When someone can no longer live safely at home, or when looking after a loved one requires more than family members can provide, Avery Health Care Center is the place to turn for skilled, compassionate care in a cozy and comfortable environment.

At Avery, residents are encouraged to make their spaces their own, and the doors are always open for families and friends to visit. Our certified nursing assistants (CNAs) are trained in geriatric care and operate under the close supervision of licensed registered nurses. Medical oversight is provided round-the-clock, and our entire team of experienced professionals are here to serve the physical, cognitive and psychological needs of our residents.

Driving EAST on I-84, take Exit 41, marked South Main Street. At the end of the exit, turn right onto South Main Street, and left onto New Britain Avenue. Continue straight for two miles, and turn right on Newington Avenue. Entrance to Avery Heights is 1/10th of a mile on the left.
