Amid fears of COVID-19, CCSD reacts District cancels all out-of-state, international school trips until further notice

COVID-19 updates:

Laura Solsona News Editor With the spread of COVID-19 into Southern Nevada, the Clark County School District is taking new measures to protect students and faculty. All CCSD out-of-state and international trips were canceled indefinitely on March 5, and all schools underwent a “deep cleaning” on Monday, March 9, an already scheduled day off for students. Spring Valley High School, in line with the district, is encouraging students to stay home if they are sick and to regularly wash their hands. Many scheduled school trips, including Grad Night, a student’s summer trip to Italy and Greece, and a faculty conference in Chicago have all been canceled by the district, leaving students disappointed and teachers scrambling for refunds. The district sent an email to all parents and guardians of CCSD students on March 5, explaining the decision to cancel all trips: “Safety is our number one priority. District leadership will work with individual schools to determine potential options for rescheduling.”

precautions taken since it could potentially save their life.” Her grandmother, Marie Roccia, however, said she thinks the district’s decision is a smart one. “I would have been scared to death if my granddaughter went to California at this point,” Roccia said. “It’s really scary, the
