CONTENTS Editor’s Note Hello and welcome to the very first issue of The Green.

As a local business owner I felt that there was a need for a publication in the Ashley Cross and Lower Parkstone area which supports community spirit and champions local retailers and companies.

The sole intention of The Green is to inform people living and working in the BH14 area of the fantastic offerings on their doorstep.

As well as the birth of this publication there has been another exciting edition to the Leader & Co family, with the arrival of my beautiful twin babies this summer, so having a family-focused aspect to the paper is key. The ‘draw your dream home’ competition in association with Buckholme Towers invites children to get involved and offers them the chance of winning an exciting day out for the whole family.

We have the support of some fantastic businesses in the area and have enjoyed working closely with them to bring readers of The Green an insight to the working life of BH14 including interviews with interesting icons, business news and debate. As a seasonal publication, we have focused this issue on the party festivities with some expert advice on shining bright at social events in the run up to Christmas from our Style Shrinks. The ‘whats on guide’ offers a wide range of social and networking opportunities taking place in Bournemouth and Poole over the next three months.

It is an exciting time for the property market too, with prices set to increase faster than first expected, by six per cent, according to a research carried out by Rightmove. A vigorous autumn market in the UK is set to boost the annual inflation figure from four and half per cent as previously predicted. The rise in expected house price growth is strongly driven by the strength of the southern markets, so it is a good time to be living on the coast. Given this great news we thought it an ideal time to add an estate agency service to our existing lettings offering and we look forward to launching this Winter.

So as the nights begin to draw in, we hope you enjoy reading the launch issue of The Green, we wish you a happy autumn and look forward to issue two in the New Year.

For those GBBO fans in Bournemouth and Poole it’s now time to hone in your baking skills as Westbourne’s favourite vintage tea boutique is hosting its own version of the BBC smash hit.

The Great Dot.Tea Bake Off launches for aspiring bakers and Mary Berry wannabies on Thursday October 24 and the monthly event takes place between 7pm and 9pm.

Whether young, old, experienced or amateur – the competition is open for all. To enter, pick up an entry form from Dot.Teas and simply drop off a bake between 6pm and 6.45pm on the day, the Dot.Tea expert team will then judge the entries in secret at 7pm.

Men’s formal attire has the reputation of being boring and unimaginative, dusting off the same black dinner jacket that has been in the wardrobe since time began.

However, with a little thought, this cannot be further from the truth.

For the discerning man, an invite to a formal event should rouse excitement, not horror. While women meticulously plan their look for a black tie event or party, men are often guilty of taking the easy (or should I say lazy) route and throwing on the trusty black DJ. With a good quality two-piece dinner suit costing in the region of £695, it is sensible to buy a classic style which can be re-worn.

Look at some of the style pages to check out what styles you like.

Daniel Craig’s Bond, for example, goes for a classic look that is easy to emulate. Dinner jackets come in two collar types, the standard collar and the shawl collar. Both look great and are perfectly acceptable.

It’s a question of personal taste.

Similarly there’s a wide variety of dress shirt styles. You can opt for a standard collar (as worn by Bond and Princes Harry and William) or a wing collar. Similarly, there are pleated or plain front styles. It’s up to you, as long as it is white, clean and pressed! A dress shirt should always have double cuffs for cufflinks and you should aim to show half an inch of white cuff below the jacket sleeve when your arms are relaxed down your sides.

However, here are a few style tips for adding some flair to the black tie look:

- Midnight blue is a great colour choice, as it looks like black in a dark setting Opt for d i f f e r e n t coloured lapels; for example a suit in midnight blue with the lapels and pocket flaps in black.

- Always go for the best quality fabric available within budget. We always recommend a wool and mohair mix to guarantee a slicker, sharp looking silhouette.

- Never, ever be tempted to opt for a comedy tie! Bold, jewel colours for a bow-tie can look great but stay away from the cartoons and garish patterns at all costs. For a really cool look, try tying your own bow tie. It’s not as hard as it seems and gives you a distinctive edge.

- Pay attention to your shoes and socks; nothing lets you down at a black tie event more than scruffy shoes or socks. Buy a good pair of fine black socks just to wear with your black tie ensemble. As for shoes, black patent always looks great, but as long as they are black and shiny, that’s ok.

- Treat yourself to a good white silk handkerchief to wear in your top pocket.  - So, with a little effort and forethought, instead of groaning next time you receive a black tie invitation, you should enjoy planning your look and aim for some panache.

Their current ‘cocktail of choice’ is the infamous Porn Star Martini.

An iconic blend of Passion fruit, Passoa, Vanilla vodka, Vanilla syrup (homemade on-site) and a dash of lime, all garnished with a shot of Prosecco to accompany the drink.

The Dancing Grove prides itself on their ‘homemade’ aspect, finding their syrups to be extremely popular with customers. The menu comprises of eight cocktails in total that are enough to make even the cocktail critic impressed.

Hi Robert, why do you think Sunseeker developments have stood the test of time? What has helped the brand and business get to this point in time?

The reason that we are successful is that we create dreams, creating the most famous brand in boating in the world. We have constantly invested in new development and we are the only brand in the world who have always done this in house.

Many say, Sunseeker epitomises speed, grace, style and space. As a Founding Partner do you have a favourite model?

My favourite model is always the next one off of the drawing board as I put my passion and love into helping design it - and this is always a very exciting time.

What is the largest boat you have made to date?

Currently the 40 Metre is the largest we have built to date however in production at the moment we have a 48 Metre which is just under 500 tonnes and the most advanced boat of its type in the world in composite materials, giving greater volume and being 100 tonnes lighter that any of its competition.

So what sets Sunseeker apart in your opinion?

The Sunseeker family sets us apart from the ground floor to distributors around the world, to the most important person the end client. It is always a feeling of an extended family.

What is your vision now, after so much success, for the next 12 months? What can we expect to see for Sunseeker and coming out of the doors at Poole Quay?

Our vision and dream continues and we will be launching the new 48 Metre in November which will be such an achievement from a business that started some 50 years ago from nothing. We will continue to invest heavily in new products for the future.

Buckholme Towers School and Nursery, in Lower Parkstone, is opening its doors to the local community in October to thank those who rallied around its staff and pupils following a fire, which damaged the building in March.

A second event on Saturday 12 October from 10am to 12pm, is open to local parents who wish to find out more about the school and discuss the opportunities available at Buckholme Towers.

On Friday October 11 from 5pm to 6.30pm, local people and businesses will get the chance to have a guided tour of the new building and to meet the
