In April, we have the traditional Easter celebrations. Spain is known especially for its Holy Week traditions or Semana Santa. The Holy Week religious celebrations in Málaga are famous countrywide. Processions start on Palm Sunday and continue until Easter Sunday with the most dramatic and solemn on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The Passion procession can be seen in most areas with often huge ornate "tronos" (floats or thrones) some weighing more than 5.000 kilos and in Malage they are carried by more than 250 members of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, they shape the processions that go through the streets with penitents dressed in long purple robes, often with pointed hats, followed by women in black carrying candles. Drums and trumpets play solemn music and occasionally someone spontaneously sings a mournful saeta dedicated to the floats as it makes its way slowly round the streets. Even if you are not Catholic it is still a spectacle to see. Also, in April the village of Competa will host an international art event for the 9th time. 22 locations will be open to the public. National, International and local artists will show their art over the Easter weekend not including Good Friday see more information on pages 44 to 47. Other events include a Seminar at the Hotel Balcon, Competa by Blacktower Financial Management see page 16. Also, there is Spring Craft and Food fair on Wednesday 3rd May 2017 between 10am and 4pm at Viveros Florena Garden Centre located on the Sayalonga/Competa rd. Finally, it is our property feature to include property management as now is a good time to leave your property in good hands for the tourist season and indeed now is a good time to buy!
