A travelling exhibition curated by Jesse Campbell, Mann Art Gallery, and circulated by the Dunlop Art Gallery, both in Saskatchewan. New Age Warriors opens conversations about Indigenous innovation, ways to live on the land in the twenty-first century, and the mighty force of love. Blackburn has created garments, armour and related gear from plastic beads; these are presented as sculptural objects along with large-scale photographs placing them in context. Blackburn draws from the past and present to shape notions about an imagined future – a future filled with strong Indigenous women in protective armour battling stereotypes and facing colonialism by channeling the power of love.
