hree generations of the Hahn family have been an integral part of the rich agricultural heritage of Nappanee and surrounding counties.

Over half a century ago in 1964, Roger Hahn began his auction company specializing in farm equipment auctions, estate and antique auctions and livestock auctions, especially of dairy Holsteins, in Indiana and Michigan. Four years later, his son Phil joined his father in the auction business. In the 1980s Phil became more involved in bankruptcy and commercial auctions. In 1994 Phil’s son, Jason, joined the family business establishing the three-generation business. “We’re never in the same place at the same time,” he said. Jason said along with live auctions, Hahn’s also offers Internet only auctions and live auctions with webcast capabilities using sites including Bidspotter.com and Proxibid.com. This type of auction has allowed them to reach a much broader audience. Jason reported that at one auction this past fall they had 300 bidders in 23 states and two other countries. He said they started doing the webcast auctions in 1995 and believes they were the first in Elkhart County to do so.

auctions for the Family Christian Development Center and Open Door’s Come to the Table event. They are also a strong supporter of the Nappanee Boy’s and Girl’s Club and on a countywide level they’re highly involved in the Elkhart County 4-H Fair livestock auctions as auctioneers and purchasers.

Phil Hahn & Associates Realty The real estate portion of the Hahn family business was started by Ray Hopewell in the 1950s. Phil worked for Hopewell Realty when he got his real estate and broker’s licenses in the early 1970s. By 1987, Phil owned the company and the name was changed to Phil Hahn & Associates Inc. The real estate division of the company covers all of northern Indiana with referral abilities anywhere in the state of Indiana. Members of the real estate “hometown team” include Phil, Jason, Scot Honeycutt (Phil’s stepson), Laurie Sumpter, Brandi Kitson, Jon Stepp and Brian Wuthrich. Scot Honeycutt has been with the family business for five years, but said ironically his interest in real estate began in high school when his mom Karen was a Realtor at Pippen Realty.

This type of up-to-date technology has helped them become industry leaders in commercial and industrial auctions and appraisals.

Honeycutt said one of the most rewarding things about working in real estate is “helping individuals find their dream home.”

Brian Wuthrich joined the team in 1991 and today Phil, Jason and Brian comprise Hahn Auctioneers, Inc. and are at times joined by auctioneers Gene Robinson and Clint Cripe.

The real estate professionals at Phil Hahn & Associates are also diversified in experience with agricultural, commercial, industrial and residential real estate.

One of the contributing factors to the success of the auctions is their well-organized and broad marketing and advertising campaign. Those campaigns include individual auction brochures, videos, informational booklets, newspaper advertising, website postings and other marketing materials to best portray the quality of the auction.

Honeycutt said working for the family business is enjoyable and allows for a level of comfort.

Hahn Auctioneers, Inc. has had outstanding growth, now holding approximately 130 auctions annually with multi-millions in annual sales. Hahn Auctioneers also supports the community by holding benefit

Everyone on the “Hometown team” is involved in the community — Kiwanis, Rotary, Junior Olympics, Boy’s and Girl’s Club, redevelopment commission and Nappanee Apple Festival are some of the organizations — plus many are active in their churches. Phil Hahn noted that they all share in the pride of an excellent school system, worship at churches, shop and live in this unique city and are proud to invest back into the youth, schools, and community in general. Phil Hahn & Associates is a member of the Elkhart County Board of Realtors and our agents are very well versed in all types of financing methods. “We are proud to be your one and only HOMETOWN TEAM!”
