Through our artist development programme we have been able to support a number of local companies to develop new shows, which they are presenting both here and nationally – keep an eye on our Twitter for the latest news. We are extremely proud that our friends Frozen Light have been able to extend the run of their show Home, which we supported, to venues all over the country. For a taste of what local companies are producing right now, join us at our Scratch Night in january and discover some new talent.

Spring and the new year bring the perfect opportunity to commit to improving your fitness and having fun while you’re at it! Come and join one of our brilliant classes for beginners to advanced, or one delivered by the excellent independent tutors who hold sessions here. Look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Welcome to another exciting season of classes and shows here at The Garage. Come and see one of the fantastic shows this season. It could be a show for the family Monday’s Child, a poetic story about the bond between the young and the old, or Night At the Theatre, an accessible dance theatre show celebrating creativity, which is helpfully being performed in the afternoon. We’re excited to welcome back Zest Theatre with their latest offering Thrive, inspired by true stories of young people, beautifully exploring the inner strength we can find when faced with trauma.

Ashleigh, ollie and Raph didn’t go looking for suffering, but suffering found them anyway. When the foundations of their friendship are shaken to the core by the sudden death of a friend, they must dig deep to make sense of the tragedy in order to help recover, survive and maybe even Thrive. A joyous show about the bond between the young and the old. Monday’s Child is a poetic story of the unique bond between a little girl and an old woman suffering memory loss. Together, in a dream-like garden, they sing and dance and dress up as they joyously explore a treasure trove of memories.

For 25 years, Irish theatre company Barnstorm has created high quality professional theatre for young audiences, including hugely successful productions of The Bockety World of Henry & Bucket, The Ice Child, Jack, and The Bus. This sensitive, imaginative yet funny story explores how we make and store memories as we grow up and discover the world; how these shape who we are, and how they help us to meet the challenges of growing old. Monday’s Child will wow adults and children alike.

SSES A L C

THE GARAGE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS TECHNIQUE CLASSES

Our technique classes in dance, theatre and music are where you will learn to execute the skills and discipline unique to each of the art forms. Technique classes are taught by a range of experienced tutors/artists who specialise in each area. Classes consist of a variety of warm-up exercises, skills development, technique exercises, repertoire, routines and devising depending on the art form. Children and young people’s classes work towards studio sharings at the end of each term.

SSES

PRODUCTION CLASSES

Our production classes are for children and young people - rehearsing and performing is fun and develops a wide range of skills. The focus each term for these longer sessions in dance (all genres), musical theatre and theatre is on working towards a performance rather than on technique. There are a wide range of ages all working together under the guidance of a director or choreographer, learning the skills needed to execute performances. Each of the three groups will perform in The Garage theatre to family and friends towards the end of each term. We believe technique classes are really important to develop skills needed for performance, and so encourage participants to join an additional weekly technique class.

PERFORMANCE COMPANIES

Photo: teele killing

Participation in our performance companies is by audition only, these take place in September. Performance companies are for people who have the skills, discipline and commitment to work towards producing high quality performance work. Auditions for each of the companies take place on the first session of the Autumn term. Each company works with an experienced director or choreographer to produce performance work for a variety of platforms throughout the year. Company members are expected to continue taking part in technique classes and need to commit to a whole year working with the company. There will be additional rehearsals in the lead up to performances and some additional costs in trips to see performance work, travel to performances and costumes.

UNDERSTANDING LEVELS OPEN

Cover a range of levels and suitable for newbies as well as those with experience. Develop skills, confidence, discipline and gain experience in the art form.

BEGINNERS

No experience needed, a great chance to start something completely new in a supportive environment with experienced tutors.

IMPROVERS

For those who have learnt the basics, have some experience and would like to progress and develop more skills.

INTERMEDIATE

Suitable for people with experience in the art form. A faster-paced course for those wanting a bit of a challenge!

*If you are unsure of which level is suitable for you to join, please call reception on 01603 283382 who will ask the tutor of the class to call you for a chat to help you decide.
