SNAP! SPACE By Hadley Bushard

For years SNAP! has been known as “THE” annual art event to attend for the weekend and get lost scouting new and upcoming artist pieces and see amazing shows. Finally founders, Patrick and Holly Khan have permanently created this space we love to see every year. They turned an iconic, 5000 square foot building in the Mills50 District neighborhood into a must see gallery and indoor/outdoor event space that is community driven, featuring local, national and international exhibitors. So I arrive 10 minutes early, which is a complete rarity, and find myself pleasantly relaxed while I (who has absolutely no real knowledge of technology) await my interview with Thomas Korthuis, the 32-year old Founder and CEO of Orlando based branding and design studio, Creativity InMotion, Inc. He walks in right on time – 3pm sharp, and is not the typical “tech guy” I

expected. I guess I expected this super nerdy, antisocial (pale) dude in a Star Wars hoodie. Come to find out he does love Star wars, but is originally from Amsterdam, speaks three different languages, and has a very cool, calm energy about him. After we said hellos and got semi antiquated, the first question I started with was See page 5

THOMAS SYNNAMON Photographer

Q: Can you tell us about yourself and your photographic background?

well I am from Philadelphia, moved to NYC about 20 years ago, I waited tables and was a bartender. I then started doing costume

designs for dance companies, then I worked in widow display for

Barney's New york and a few other stores. I always had an eye for photography, but didn't have the patience to learn film

photography, so I started to teach myself to shoot with a digital camera. It was a lot of playing with lighting and settings on the

camera, a tone of self portrait, and then I taught myself how to use photoshop.

Q: What inspired you to become a photographer? I loved what you could come up with and capture it in a photo, and how lighting can make a simple image have such emotion

so thats what I wanted to do. I try to give an image a feeling, so the viewer can make up their own story about the shot.

Q: Do you prefer strobes or natural light?

strobes are great because you know what your going to get with the settings, natural lighting - you have to constantly check your settings as the light may change, but I have been doing more natural lighting shoots and I do love. Tommy Spence @ AIG Model & Talent

the natural evolution of that process. Having my own

websites. I wanted to focus on a greater, more sustainable

picture. So in 2013 I brought on a partner, who just so happens to be my fiancé, Jessica Gibson. She has a really creative eye, especially for detail, with extensive knowledge in Advertising,

Marketing and PR, and she was exactly the bridge the company needed to branch out into other directions. So we re-branded

at the end of 2013, totally overhauling the website with a new

logo and brand “image” – and now it has become a full fledged branding and design studio where instead of coding all day, I more oversee and conceptualize the combined vision of the

client. I really enjoy getting involved in understanding a client’s business aspirations and vision for their company. After you truly appreciate what makes a client unique, the fun part is translating their message cohesively across all virtual

platforms. This process is, in essence, establishing their brand

identity and what their mark on the world is going to be. So the question is, what can we create that represents each client’s

unique solution – and how can we make that message unified

and organized for everyone to see? My goal is to help clients develop an image that they will stand behind and feel proud of. That’s what I now love to do.

Q: If you had to choose a visionary in the

tech field that has molded your growth in some way, who would that be?

I have 2. I gotta go with the classic, Steve Jobs, and the not so

common household name, Sergey Brin. Despite being called an overly critical dictator, Steve Jobs had a grander vision of the world and knew how his products could affect culture and

society. The world has permanently been changed because of

his views and persistence, that’s really something to admire in a person. As for Sergey Brin, who is not only the one of the CoFounders of Google, he oversees Google X, their semi-secret facility dedicated to creating technological achievements.

Their driverless cars and not-so-stylish futuristic glasses are the products that will set the tone for the future. And, if I didn’t run the risk of being split in half by their secret Jedi light sabers, I

would sneak into that facility in a heartbeat. Or maybe I could just call him? That would probably be a better idea.

Q: What are some of your accomplishments? Photo by Jonathan Croft

I'd have to say I'm a “rookie” in this industry compared to some of the many talented artists I've met through the years, but I am proud to say I've worked with many

amazing companies and even more incredible clients. I've worked with groups like Flashes of Hope - a Foundation that does makeovers for terminally Ill children and their families, Reebok - where I had the chance to cut and

style hair for many models, Rappers and even producer (Swizz beats' family). Miami fashion week - where the models and styling never ended, Awaken Magazine -

Some of my short term goals for this year are spending more time traveling, giving back my community, and

changing lives while doing it. Within the next couple of

months I'll be creating events that include cutting hair for the homeless and another where I can go to hospitals and cut hair for those that aren't able to leave.

Q: What do you feel that you give back to the city of Orlando?

I give the city of Orlando my heart, I spent summers in New York but Orlando was my stomping ground. I've

seen it go from trees and tourists, to a city people have come to love. The city has changed for the better and I give it my best, I don't come from wealth, and I was

raised by a single mother with three children. She always taught us to never forget our struggles and where we come from and to help to anyone in need.

Well, I was born in New York and moved to Orlando

when i was 13 - originally my family is from Medellin,

Colombia. I graduated from Colonial High School here in

Orlando and I attended the Aveda Institute. I love learning it's a passion for me. I believe the best way to learn is by allowing yourself to see beyond what is physically in front of you.

Q: When did you realize that you wanted to become a hairstylist?
