The fuller issue two

Tell The Fuller Issue a bit about your experience of the music community in the city: and say, "Hey cheers guys! Thanks for setting it up". It’s about as close to the dream as we can get at the moment.

Jayden: I’d rather be a struggling musician than a successful anything else. Do you guys play Christchurch exclusively? Sam: Nah, we’ve played around a NZ a bit, but Christchurch is where we are mainly because we live here and go to school here. You hear of some bands getting a bit of success and heading over to Wellington or Oz, but for me I’m from here and why would you want to leave? You can make any city work. It may not have some immediate opportunities but you can make it work and create those opportunities.

Jayden: Everyone’s pretty tight in CHCH. I feel original bands stick together a lot and support each other immensely. The music scene here is pretty broad with different styles everywhere. In the covers arena, it can be a bit more cut throat with people undercutting, etc. Chris: Most of the people we support are at jazz school with us and naturally we talk together and support one another. We all just want each other to be successful so we go the the gigs together and support what they’re doing. Where would you like to see the band in 5 years’ time? Sam: Hopefully a couple albums deep on tour. Maybe travelling Europe or The States on tour with good mates and sweet bands and making a living out of it.
