PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks honored a local dog hero during a special Heroes Weekend pregame ceremony on July 8 for saving his owner, Paula Godwin, from a rattlesnake and taking a venomous bite to the face while hiking in Desert Hills. Elderly mother accused of shooting, killing son Allegedly resisting retirement home relocation BY: TARA ALATORRE
FOUNTAIN HILLS – On July 2 around 10 a.m. the Maricopa County Sheriff ’s deputies responded to a fatal shooting located at Fountain Hills residence involving a 92-year-old woman and her 72-year-old son. Anna Mae Blessing allegedly stashed two pistols in the pockets of her robe before confronting her son in his bedroom at their home located at 16800 E. El Lago Boulevard. Then she fired multiple rounds at her son, killing him. Officials believe the altercation started because Blessing’s son intended to place her in an

Reclamation commissioner to Arizona: Get a water deal done this year BY BRET JASPERS KJZZ
TEMPE – After a detailed – and dire – technical presentation from one of her experts, the commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation on Thursday told an audience of water stakeholders that officials weren’t trying to scare people, only make plain the risks of historically low levels on Lake Mead. Commissioner Brenda Burman and other federal officials urged, cajoled and pushed Arizona to finalize a so-called Lower Basin Drought Contingency Plan.
