New exhibit at AZ Science Center, A Mirror Maze: Numbers In Nature, will captivate all ages BY: TARA ALATORRE

PHOENIX – Prepare to be mesmerized at the Arizona Science Center’s newest exhibit A Mirror Maze: Numbers In Nature. Guests will lose themselves in this stunning, immersive, interactive exhibit that will have kids and adults alike seeing the world in a whole new way as they discover the mathematical patterns prolific throughout our universe. Guests will wander through an elaborate mirror maze with color-changing L.E.D. lighting that seems like an infinite room of twists, turns, dead ends and secret rooms with puzzles and

artifacts that seem to magically appear. There are even clearly labeled “selfie spots” throughout the maze so you can get some great photos of the exhibit. If a mirror maze is not your thing, the exhibit has a plethora of hands-on interactive features. Guests can compose a piece of music using symmetry, see patterns in their own bodies, draw patterns on a digital screen and play video games; all while learning about fractals, spirals, the Golden Ratio, the Fibonacci sequence, tessellation, the MIRROR MAZE

Copper Fire shuts down I-17 near Camp Verde BY: TARA ALATORRE

Pictured: Traffic was backed up on the I-17 in both directions for hours on Tuesday, June 26 as firefighters worked to put out the Copper Fire that ignited at approximately 2:30 p.m. Vehicles were forced to detour or had to wait for ADOT to reopen the I-17 in both directions, which was around 8 p.m.

CAMPE VERDE – Several brush fires that ignited along the Interstate 17 in the Verde Valley between State Routes 260 and 169 and merged into one fire, prompting officials to shut down the highway in both directions for almost 17 hours on Tuesday, June 26. The Copper Fire burned approximately 106 acres near Camp Verde before Prescott National Forest firefighters contained the flames to the median with very little left burning on the east and west site of I-17 by Tuesday evening. Fire officials believe the fire was started from a vehicle dragging chains.

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) shut down the I-17 in both directions around 2:30 p.m. on June 26, which caused heavy traffic jams as people were detoured around the fire. Southbound drivers headed towards Phoenix had to detour on SR 169 through Prescott or wait out the closure. It was nearly 8 p.m. before ADOT was able to reopen the right lanes of the I-17 in both directions.
