Daisy Mountain Fire Department breaks ground on new Station 145 ELIZABETH MEDORA STAFF

DESERT HILLS – Daisy Mountain Fire Department broke ground on the new Station 145 in Desert Hills at a ceremony on April 27. This new station will take the place of the old Station 145, which was torn down on March 30. The old station had severe structural issues due to expansive soil, and the foundational problems necessitated either major repairs or new construction. According to DMFD, multiple feasibility studies were performed for Station 145, and the cost of repairing versus replacing the

station was about the same. The new building will be warrantied, and the design team has developed soil-amending plans to avoid future problems with the expansive soil. The new station will be nearly 12,000 sq. ft., with three bays. The station will also include an EMS exam room and new community space. Fire Chief Mark Nichols called the new fire station a “community building”. “It’s to serve the community in many different aspects,” Nichols said at the groundbreaking. Elizabeth Medora photo
