Anthem brush fire burns 16 acres ANTHEM – A brush fire sparked Friday afternoon burned 16 acres of the New River Wash between 45th Ave. and the Arroyo Grande subdivision before being extinguished. No injuries or structure damage due to the fire has been reported. Daisy Mountain Fire Department crews were dispatched at about 4:30 p.m. to a brush fire near the cross streets of 45th Ave. and Emily Dr., north of Anthem Way, in west Anthem. “The first arriving crews found 3-4 acres of New River Wash on fire moving somewhat quickly to the North and requested additional resources,” DMFD Captain Matt Wood said via email. “The fire would end up

NORTH VALLEY – The Daisy Mountain and Black Canyon Fire Departments are considering consolidating, and both fire boards have voted to move the process forward. Two public hearings are scheduled in May so that residents of both fire districts can ask questions and offer comments on the proposal. The DMFD public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 11, at 6 p.m., at Fire Station #141, 43814 N. New River Rd., in New River. The Black Canyon hearing is set for Saturday, May
20, at 5 p.m., at the fire station, 35050 S. Old Black Canyon Hwy., in Black Canyon City. In addition to posted notice of these meetings, the fire district is placing public notices of the hearings, as well as mailing announcements to residents of both fire districts. Fire Chief Mark Nichols noted that the departments have taken these steps to ensure that everyone is notified of the meetings, which provides the opportunity for district residents

NORTH VALLEY – Community preparedness is the focus of the Daisy Mountain Fire Department’s Citizen Corps Community Emergency Response Team, and 20 more students have graduated from eight weeks of CERT training, as of last week. At the April 20 class, students participated in a drill, putting into practice what they had learned about disaster response and teamwork. “It’s all an effort that you work together on,” Paul Schickel,
