CAREFREE – The Carefree Town Council will be seeking to fill a vacant seat due to the unfortunate passing of Councilman Jim Van Allen, now that the community has had a chance to mourn his passing, which happened on Oct. 7. Pursuant to the town code, a vacancy is filled through an appointment by the town council. The mayor and council members will review, discuss and vote on the qualified applicants that apply for the vacant seat, said the Town Administrator, Gary Neiss, in an email. The newly appointed council member will serve out the remaining term, which expires

in December 2018, according to town code. Mayor Peterson and the Carefree Town Council will make an announcement about the vacant seat, and how residents should apply for the appointment at the regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 7, said Neiss. Any interested residents who would like to apply for the appointed council seat need to send a letter of interest with their resume to Mayor Peterson before the council meeting on Dec. 5. The new council member could be appointed and sworn in by the December council meeting, Neiss said.
