County Supervisor Bill Gates sworn in; Board prepares for new year NORTH VALLEY – Maricopa County’s newest supervisor was sworn into office on Jan. 4. District 3 Supervisor Bill Gates was elected last November. He is filling the seat of former Supervisor Andy Kunasek, who retired after many years of service to the community. This will be Gates’ first term on the Board of Supervisors. He represents District 3, which stretches from central Phoenix and north to the Anthem area. Gates has served previously as a Phoenix City Councilman, representing much of the same area he will now serve as a supervisor; his priorities have
been fiscal responsibility and government efficiency. “The goal should not be a government that does more; it should be a government that does better,” Gates said in a release from county staff. “I will continue to focus on making government more efficient, more fiscally responsible, and more accessible for our constituents and our businesses.” Also on Jan. 4, Maricopa County District 1 Supervisor Denny Barney was elected unanimously as the Chairman of the Maricopa County Board

Daisy Mountain Fire Department Battalion Chief Dave Wilson said via email that responding units were dispatched at approximately 10 p.m. on the night of Jan. 11. Wilson noted that initial reports were that there were
three people trapped inside the structure but that all occupants were able to self extricate. “One male patient was flown to Maricopa Medical Burn Center with significant burn injuries,” Wilson said. “No other injuries were reported.” Crews worked quickly to get the fire extinguished, and Wilson said loss was limited to a bedroom, bathroom, and upstairs hallway.
