Veterans’ support organizations team up to donate vehicle to veteran in need ANTHEM – Daisy Mountain Veterans, American Legion Post 128, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12031 worked together to donate a vehicle to a local veteran in need of transportation. Jimmy Ladoucer, a 76-yearold Navy veteran, has been in need of a vehicle; he has not had reliable transportation, and with his wife in a Prescott medical facility, he particularly needed a reliable vehicle. These veterans’ organizations presented Ladoucer with a Ford pickup at a ceremony at the Anthem Veterans Memorial last week.

New River water issues discussed at community association meeting NEW RIVER – Lack of water in New River has been at the forefront in local discussion for the last several weeks, as residents learned that City of Phoenix would no longer be allowing local water hauling companies to access Phoenix hydrants. City of Phoenix sent letters to water hauling companies over the summer, stating that no water hauling permits would be issued after the end of 2017. In a July 2017 statement, Phoenix Water detailed their reasoning behind the permit decision. Among stated Phoenix Water concerns are Service Area, Protection of Water Supplies, Customer Fees, Water Infrastructure, and
Water Quality. The Protection of Water Supplies refers to Phoenix’s assured 100-year supply of water, designated by the Department of Water Resources, which is based on a specific service area. The New River/Desert Hills Community Association held a meeting at the Anthem Civic Center on Sept. 19, dispersing information about the availability of water in the New River area and what options were available to residents who rely on hauled water. New River Elementary Family Resource Center offers programs, services for families ELIZABETH MEDORA STAFF
NEW RIVER – The magic of the Great Arizona Puppet Theater’s Jack and the Beanstalk made an appearance at New River Elementary’s Family Resource Center last week, entertaining the audience and giving them a behind-the-scenes look at how puppets work. This show was one of the many activities offered by the Deer Valley Family Resource Center, which focuses on learning and development for kids ages birth-5.
Two Family Resource Centers are located in the Deer Valley Unified School District, one at New River Elementary and one at Copper Creek Elementary. Courtney Taylor, Deer Valley Family Resource Center Coordinator, said that they offer resource and referral information to the families of all 33 DVUSD schools, as well as to the surrounding communities. “The DVFRC is funded by First Things First, who is working to help prepare Arizona’s children to
come to school ready to learn!” Taylor said. “Learn how to help your child build language and reading skills,” Taylor said, describing services available at resource centers. “Support your family’s health and nutrition. Get referrals to connect you with community resources. Our programs are available at no cost or low cost, and child care is often provided while you take Pictured: Families attending a puppet show at the New River Elementary Deer Valley Family Resource Center last week.
