Paying it forward: Daisy Mountain Veterans donates vehicle to veteran ELIZABETH MEDORA STAFF

NORTH VALLEY – Daisy Mountain Veterans’ most recent vehicle donation offered everyone involved a chance to pay it forward and share goodwill and caring. At a ceremony at the Anthem Veterans Memorial on Aug. 25, Daisy Mountain Veterans presented a vehicle to local veteran Gabriel Benavides, who was in need of a vehicle. Local resident Jenny Jett Erwin, a member of Daisy Mountain Veterans, donated the car, which had belonged to her mother. Years ago, when Jett Erwin was a young mom in need of reliable transportation, friends and family helped her,

Phone scammers targeting Maricopa County residents NORTH VALLEY – The Maricopa County Sheriff ’s Office is warning the public about phone scammers targeting residents in Maricopa County. These scammers claim to work for MCSO. One has falsely identified himself as Sgt. John Scott. Targets of the scam are told they have missed a jury summons, and that to avoid arrest, they must pay a fine using money cards. The scammers request that the targets buy $2,000 in cash cards, then call a local number and turn over the card numbers. Although news media outlets have publicized this scam many times, some residents remain

vulnerable. The Maricopa County Sheriff ’s Office and the courts system emphasize that they do not contact residents by phone requesting payment for a warrant or fine and will not accept any type of gift cards or money cards as payment. This phone scam is similar to several other impersonation phone scams. Scammers may call residents and threaten IRS action or arrest if their demands for money in the form of gift cards aren’t met. If you are a victim of this or a similar phone scam, contact MCSO immediately at (602) 876-1011.
