Propane tanker fire causes long closure on I-17 NEW RIVER – Sections of the I-17 freeway in the New River area and farther north were closed from the afternoon of Aug. 8 through the early morning of Aug. 9, due to a propane tanker fire in the area of I-17 and Table Mesa Rd. A spokesperson from the Arizona Department of Public Safety said via email that the cause of the fire was a tire blowout, with the resulting sparks setting the fire, adding that no one was injured. Milstead tweeted at 4:20 p.m. that afternoon that I-17 was closed in both directions at Table Mesa and that a 3,500 gal. propane tanker was actively burning. He added that HazMat was assessing and that there was no estimated time to reopen the freeway. The incident happened between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 8. The freeway did not fully reopen until after 2 a.m. the following day. Frustrated drivers stuck on the freeway had

YCSO K9 Miley retires after years of award-winning service YAVAPAI COUNTY – Yavapai County Sheriff ’s Office K9 Miley has been one hard-working dog, and she has served faithfully to help keep the community safe. On Aug. 2, Miley officially retired, and the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors approved the sale of Miley to Detective Eric Lopez for a buck. Miley has been with Lopez for the past five years as part of the 4-person K9 team focusing on narcotics interdiction in Yavapai County. YCSO photo

ANTHEM – The Daisy Mountain Fire Department is constructing an Administration Building in Anthem. This building will serve as a central meeting place that is easily accessible to staff, according to Deputy Chief Danny Johnson. The entire Daisy Mountain fire administrative staff will be working out of this building, which will allow for more efficiency. “It will be nice to have everybody in one location,”

Phoenix Police arrest voyeurism suspect PHOENIX – The Phoenix Police Department has arrested a suspect on multiple charges of voyeurism. The incidents occurred between July 9 and July 18 at three Phoenix locations: 2900 West Agua Fria Fwy., 2500 West Charlotte Dr., and 1700 West Bethany Home Rd. On Aug. 9, 30-year-old Vincent D. Rios was arrested and booked into jail on the four counts of Voyeurism, as well as one count of Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Phoenix Police said in an Aug. 10 news release. The release stated that the suspect is alleged to have committed

four acts of voyeurism to three separate victims. On July 19, Phoenix Police asked for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in the voyeurism incident that happened at a business near I-17 and Loop 101. In that case, an adult male went into the women’s bathroom and used a pair of reflective sunglasses to look at the victim in the adjoining stall. Phoenix Police stated on Aug. 10 that with the help of the public, the department was able to identify and arrest the suspect.
