CAREFREE - The Carefree Town Council will appoint a new council member at the Jan. 9 meeting, with the new appointee filling the vacant seat, and fulfilling the remainder of former Councilman Jim Van Allen’s term who passed away in October. “I believe that we have four outstanding applicants for the open Carefree Town Council position,” said Carefree Mayor Les Peterson in an email statement. The four candidates that applied for the vacant seat: Tom Cross, Vince D’ Aliesio, Stephen Hatcher and John Traynor. The candidates had to be a Carefree resident, at least 18-years-old, submit their resume and a
statement of interest to the town clerk, and be able and willing to serve the remainder of the term that ends in December 2018. “The individual selected a that Town Council meeting will be immediately given the Oath of Office, and he will then begin serving the balance of Mr. Van Allen’s term,” said Mayor Peterson in his email. Originally the town council wanted to appoint a candidate by Dec. 5, but the time demands put on council members during the holidays caused the vote to be delayed until Jan. 9, he said. “I believe that each could add a skill set and dimension to the Council that would be very beneficial. I look forward to working with whomever is selected, Peterson said.”
