Knock Out Charity Fun Knock-Out Fun-Day Young teen Millie Mae held her second charity event last weekend and the day was a huge success. After months of planning and organising the day came together like clock-work with families enjoying the Family Fun Day which was held at the Barwell Sports Bar in Barwell.

The day had plenty of fun for all the family including a children’s bouncy castle and icecream van Mr Softee which was generously donated for the afternoon by Paul Hancock, sweet cones donated by Emily Summerfield, a

tombola stall, hook-a--duck, duck, scrumptious cakes made by Gemma Perin, Irish bingo, a book stall and a disco to keep all entertained.

Millie held her first charity event last year at the age of 15 after sadly losing her Grandad, Brian Holdsworth to cancer. Known for his pool action skills by locals and a keen pool lover, a Charity Pool Knock-out Match was held during the day out of memory for Brian Holdsworth.

Millie said “It’s the second time I’ve done a charity event in memory of my Grandad. This year it was in aid of Rainbows and LOROS. I would like to thank my mum, Becky Holdsworth, my aunty, Sarah Holdsworth and my boyfriend Jobe Peasland for helping me through the planning of the event. I would also like to say a huge thank you to everyone that helped and donated to my charity event including Paul Hancock, Emily Summerfield, Gemma Perrin, Mojo’s, Regent Beauty, Limelight Beds Ltd and Lorna at Barwell Sports Bar for all their help and donations.”

Rainbows’ is the only hospice for children and young people in the East Midlands where life-limited children and their families can find care and support. Their incredible team of people help relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, support parents and siblings through their bereavements and care for children until the end. LOROS Hospice is a

local charity and every year they care for over 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. They provide free, highquality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill adult patients, their family and carers. Both charities offer fantastic care and support and the money Millie raised means that they can continue to develop as places of care and support to children and adults from across Leicestershire and Rutland.

Millie raised a fantastic amount of £1050 on the day and smashed her target of £1000, what a fantastic amount to go towards two wonderful charities which both will hugely benefit from. Well done Millie.

Memories And Nostalgia On Friday 28th October Hinckley and District Past and Present will be presenting a film and slide show featuring Memories and Nostalgia from around your local area.

The show will start at 7.00pm and will cost ÂŁ5.00 per person including refreshments.

Profit from the evening will be split between the Chapel and The Community Heartbeat Trust, who provide defibrillators for use within the local communities.

So far over 2000 of these potential life saving machines have been sited in public areas for use in case of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

The charity will also feature for 3 months beginning 1st October in other money raising activities at the Chapel including Coffee Mornings on Saturday 22nd October, 26th November and 17th December. The Coffee Mornings will from 10.00am until 12.00noon. Tours of the Historic Chapel will also be available on those days too.

The fundraising events will take place at the Hinckley Great Meeting Unitarian Chapel on Baines Road in Hinckley.

Hinckley Library Re-Opens To The Public As a result of new class rooms being built over the summer Hinckley library are now pleased to announce that they have reopened its doors.

Newly refurbished and with lots of clubs returning they are inviting the public to join them and see what’s new.

The library is not just for reading, it also runs many cubs including scrabble, lunch time talks, colouring clubs and much more.

Leicestershire Police are inviting people aged 18 and above to come and watch the film about Kayleigh Haywood and the story of how the Leicestershire teenager was groomed, raped and murdered last year. With the support of Kayleigh’s family, Leicestershire Police has made a film about aspects of the last two weeks of her life.

Lasting just over 5 minutes, Kayleigh's Love Story is a warning to children and parents of the dangers of online grooming. The film highlights just how quick and easy it can be for children to be groomed online without them or those around them knowing it is happening. Its purpose is to protect children now and in the future and to stop another family losing a child in this way.

It’s vital that young people understand the importance of staying safe online and parents can spot the signs that may indicate their child is being groomed. There is a fact sheet for parents that contains information about online grooming and the tell-tale signs and behaviours.

The film is a part of a campaign being run by the Force and Leicestershire's Police and Crime Commissioner asking people to make a commitment to fight child sexual exploitation.

CEASE – Commitment to Eradicate Abuse and Sexual Exploitation – is a major, multi-agency initiative in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, and asks people to make a public commitment that such abuse and exploitation of children will not be tolerated. We want members of the public to help ‘spot the signs’ to prevent young people coming to harm.

A young girl from Barwell has took it upon herself to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust after watching a video online about a girl who had lost her hair from cancer treatment.

Mika just 6 years old has beautiful long blonde hair but just moments after watching the video, approached her mum asking questions about why the little girl had no hair and if it was possible that she could donate her own hair to help the little girl.

I think it stems from a belief that exercise means a significant block of time (usually 30 minutes or more) during which a structured activity is done – sport, gym, aerobics class, etc.

When people try to fit this into their lives, along with the time to prepare for, freshen up after and travel to and from, it just seems impossible to fit in to their days on a regular basis.

As a result of this belief, they are left knowing that more exercise would benefit them, but feeling helpless to do anything about it. Muscle stiffness and aches begin to develop due to inactivity.

There is another way - you could “drip feed” them into your day. Waiting for the kettle to boil? Do 10 or more squats or a few push-ups (against the worktop if you're a beginner). Talking on your mobile phone at home? Walk around and up and down the stairs a few times as you do.

If you want to do more aerobic work you could get a skipping rope – you’d be surprised how energetic just a couple of minutes of skipping can be. Even simpler, you could jog on the spot or dance to whatever’s on the radio.

Increasing your activity in this way can have a really positive effect on the health of your muscles. By taking each opportunity to do just a few movements you will accumulate a significant amount of exercise over a week. As a result, you might find that you feel inspired, motivated and more able to start prioritising time to exercise more formally.

Try it – you could find some of those stiff and tired muscles feeling better faster than you think.

at Hinckley Leisure Centre SWIMMERS are being challenged to take on the Aspire Channel Swim at Hinckley Leisure Centre this autumn in aid of the spinal cord injury charity, Aspire. The challenge, which runs from now until 5 December, invites swimmers to swim the equivalent distance to the English Channel - some 22 miles - at their own pace in their local pool, while raising money for Aspire and people who have been paralysed by spinal cord injury.

Tom Reed, Operations Manager at Hinckley Leisure Centre, said: “This is a great opportunity for our local residents to take part and join us in the pool, we are delighted to be able to support the Aspire Channel Swim and hope everyone gets involved”.

“Libraries had their origins in the English way of life in 1464 and became popular and widespread in the mid 19th Century. A special magical cabinet was created to nurture and look after these wondrous buildings, to encourage everything they stood for in their latter years: homework support for children; free broadband internet and email for those with no home access to it; photocopying and fax facilities; free information and book loans; and information about local history and families.

“But a dark curse spread across the land when the Dickblunter Group ascended and swallowed them up, left, right and centre, just like the whale did to Jonah.

Disneyland Dream For Local Toddler A fundraising event is being held at The Meeting Centre in Hinckley to raise funds for a little girl who is battling cancer.

Increase In Theft From Vehicles In Desford Police are warning the residents of Desford that there has been a reported increase in theft from motor vehicles.

Two year old Lacey Ann is currently battling cancer for her second time. The charity event is being held on 7th October and is raising funds for a trip to Disneyland Paris for Lacey Ann. The night will start from 7.00pm until 11.00pm and will feature live music from Escapade, dance act, DJ, raffles and an auction.

Fashion Show Sale On Friday 30th September from 7.30 onwards a fashion show/sale will take place at Age UK Leicestershire and Rutland’s Resource Centre on Kings Walk in Earl Shilton.

Entry is £3 per person payable on the door and there will be many ends of lines and designs from Next, Top Shop, River Island, New Look, Per Una and many more being sold at a fraction of the price.

Entry fee will raise funds for the centre which provides day care and wellbeing activities for the elderly.

Thieves have targeted vehicles at night time in the Desford area including Manor Road, Stewards Court, Gables Close and Kirkby Road.

Police are reminding residents about the importance of removing expensive tools and items from their vehicles at night time.

They understand that aside from locking vehicles it is difficult to secure them further but if tools, sat navs, phone holders and personal belongings are all removed from your vehicle at night time then at least if your vehicle is broken into by a car thief very little will be taken.

Police are asking that any suspicious incidents be reported to 101 and in an emergency you can call 999.

Park Exhibition Friends of Hollycroft Park are holding a show at the Atkins Building Art Gallery in Hinckley.

If you’re familiar or new to the park, this exhibition will be of great interest with photographs, history, memories and events.

Refreshments will be available from Café Espanol during the exhibition.

The exhibition will take place from September 24th until 8th October.

Crafts In The Court

Crafts in the Court are a newly opened craft unit in Barwell situated at Unit 16 in Kings Court on Kingsfield Road . The new business venture was started in August when Victoria Payne and Chel Ellis, who both have a love of crafting, put their heads together and decided to look for a suitable building to house the new shop.

The unit is community based and provides shelves and rooms for those wishing to showcase and sell their own hand-made items and is managed on a non -profit basis. If you have home-made items that you would like to sell then Crafts in the Court offer space to showcase your items from as little as ÂŁ10 per month and they do not charge a commission on items sold. Crafts in the Court showcase anything from glass to ceramics, jewellery to artwork, clothing to toys and souvenirs to gifts.

Their opening hours are 12noon until late on a Thursday, 12noon until 5pm on Fridays, 10am until exhausted on Saturdays, and 11am until 4pm on Sundays. On Thursday evenings they host a craft group which meets at 7pm until 10pm, with a group of people deciding every week what they would like to learn.

Crafts in the Courts will be holding a MacMillan Cancer Support Mammoth Weekend on the 1st and 2nd of October where they will have some fantastic raffle prizes, home-made scrumptious cakes and pastries, home-made jams, scones and cream and tea and coffee available.

With plenty to keep you entertained why not pop along and show your support in aid of charity and help them raise funds along the way.
