Dr. Allan E. Conde, the Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Marites M. Rio, Vice President for Research Development Extension and Production; Dr. Renato F. De Lemon, Vice President for Administration and Finance; Dr. Marvin P. Amoin, the Campus Director; the Program Heads, Dr. Leni A. Avecilla; Dr. Jenisus O. Dejarlo, and Dr. Ederlinda B. Esquibel; and Prof. Xenia B. Canale, the Principal of the Laboratory Schools welcomed everyone with their warm greetings, and messages of unity regardless of the pandemic.

Furthermore, each organization presented a teaser of activities held last year to give learners and faculty more excitement.

Michelle F. Bengero, President of the English Enthusiast Educators, announced the activities to be conducted for the whole celebration.

The sub-organizations prepared simultaneous activities for the 1st day namely: COE Guru 2021 Final Round, Baybayin WebinarWorkshop, Do You Know Me? AstroKNOWme: An Outta-this-World Webinar with Filipino Astronomers, Trends in Teaching and Learning Mathematics, COEnnect Quiz Bee, Literary Contest, and Mobile Legends Tournament. For the 2nd day, the College still continued the Rite of Passage and Induction Ceremony tradition despite the current situation while the latter was the 2021 COE Ambassador and Ambassadress coronation.

drian Joseph Barcia, IIIBTVTEd, and Roicelyn Rañada, II-BSE Mathematics, sealed the crowns of the recently concluded College of Education Ambassador and Ambassadress 2021 headed by the Light Bringers Club with the theme, “Facing Life’s Challenges with Beauty and Grace Amidst the Pandemic,” on April 15.

Barcia said that pandemic teaches him the reality in life that he did not see during the face-to-face education when he answered the question of Dr. Rommel R. Castro, College Dean, “What bits and pieces of lesson from this worldwide pandemic that you will cherish, and how will you apply these as COE Ambassador/Ambassadress?”

“Now I see a reality as part of my journey, I see goals as part of my growth, And I see education as part of my dreams being able to survive in this pandemic is one of a kind adventure, so all I can say was being strong enough, being brave enough, being dedicated enough, and being motivated enough . . .,” he further mentioned.

Meanwhile, Rañada stated that the pandemic makes her value time;

even though it is free, it is also priceless, and once it is lost, it can never be back, so it should be used wisely.

“We should adjust with the new normal because a year has passed and we are still struggling with COVID-19, but it taught us value time wherein we should spend our time with our family,” she answered.

Joaquin Miguel Timones, 1-D, and Faith Bagasala Liza, 1-G, obtained the 1st Runner-Up while Rodrigo Gomez, Jr., 1-F, and Shiela Mae Flores, 1-A, notched 2nd Runner-Up. Henson Alegre Ariola, Jam Abanes, Lien Bermudes, Junessa Rain Pantaleon, and Arlene Posana served as the jury of the coronation.

he University Supreme Student Government of the University of Rizal System-Morong expedited Student Financial Assistance Program for the welfare of the indigent students across the four colleges on February 23.

This program aimed to uphold the duties of the USSG to conduct student financial assistance program for the sake of indigent students who need financial assistance especially in this time of global pandemic.

In line with this, the Light Bringers Club, College of Education mother organization, along with sub-organizations, Educators’ Mathematics Club, Education Students Research Organizations, English Enthusiast Educators, Group of United Technologists, Organization of Future Elementary Mentors, and Science Enthusiasts and Environmentalists Society (SEES) partook in the said program by assisting the 30 applicants under the College.

he Education Student Research Organization conducted an Online Quiz Bee about rebus, trivia, logic and gibberish on April 14.

The official list of ten beneficiaries from the College was posted on the official USSG Facebook page namely, Ann Gabriela De Luna, Frances May Alejandro, Briant King Penas, Edrian De Castro, Enna Mae Razonable, Lady Arriane Doblado, Jonalyn Labarrete, James Bryan Pagala, Jie Ann Gesta, and Kim Tyrone Samson.

They received financial assistance amounting to Php 1,000 through their preferred mode of transaction.

Elsa Angelica Lensoco, Erl John Masunurin, and Roma Erica Masucal from General Sciences won 1st Place with Php 200.00 cash prize and ecertificate. Lensoco said that the virtual quiz bee was a new experience because it is usually held face-to-face. She also prayed for stable internet connectivity during the activity.

My classmates just included me in the group two hours before the quiz bee. I was nervous on what can I contribute, so I quickly searched and reviewed about rebus, trivia, logic, and gibberish.

he sophomores finally became part of the College of Education family as they underwent the Rite of Passage and Induction Ceremony supervised by the Light Bringers Club (LBC) via Google Meet and Facebook Live on April 15.

Dr. Leni A. Avecilla, BSE Program Head, said in her Welcome Remarks that teaching is the noblest profession among all other professions, and it requires great dedication and passion.

“I welcome the sophomores; welcome to the College of Education, welcome to the College which believes that desirable attitudes and values are equally important to knowledge and skills,” she mentioned.

In short story category, Renz P. Goto, II-BSE English, finished 1st Place with 90.23 percent while Bernadette A. Regala, II-ME B, placed 2nd with 86.33 percent.

Meanwhile, Quennie P. Lessano, IIIBSE English, shared message of hope and unity with her entry in the Jingle Making that garnered 95.33 percent making her accomplished 1st Place while Cedrick Jed E. Manalang, 1-CE C, reaped 93.67 percent giving him the 2nd Place.

Jen Ross C. Malubago, and Vinn Adrian Gatchalian, College of Engineering learners, took the spots for Poster-Slogan with 98.67 and 96.33 percent, respectively.

Lastly, John Carlo N. Mesa and Ma. Kyla C. Sacramento, both 1-E learners, grabbed places with 95.33 and 95 percent for Spoken Word category.

The College of Education held a Virtual Socialized Dialogue with the Dean on January 29.

The Light Bringers Club initiated this activity with the presence of class and sub-organizations Presidents and Vice Presidents; Program Heads; and the College Dean, Dr. Rommel R. Castro.

Prof. Helen R. Blanquisco, LBC Adviser, also named the newly-elected officers of the College mother organization for the Academic Year 2020– 2021.

In addition, Queenie P. Lessano, LBC President, introduced the different sub-organizations where the Presidents presented their general plan of action.

The Dean answered questions prepared by the learners concerning online classes, reporting, class schedule, and qualifying examinations that were explained thereupon.

he English Enthusiast Educators showcased the poetic talents of the College of Education learners about Agape and Ludus love through TikTok, an online application, March 8.

Dionysis P. Berja, II-BSE English, won 1st Place with his Agape love entry with 62.81 averaged scores from officers and Facebook reactions.

A Mental Health Webinar in Partnership with Lingap Diwa,” participated in by learners, and teaching and nonteaching staff of the University of Rizal System-Morong on February 26.

as well as to generate awareness on mental health among the students.

“Being in an online, “virtual” setting, this webinar is our means to promote mental health awareness through a virtual kumustahan event, to communicate with other students as to how online classes affect their mental health; and connect to other students virtually and give them tips and advice on how to enhance resilience while living in the new normal,” she said.

The Zoomustahan event encouraged more or less 80 participants to raise their questions on mental health particularly about anxiety, depression, ways to stay positive, and approaching a medical professional that were answered by the resource psychiatrist.

The SEES is planning to have a rerun of the mental health webinar for the Academic Year 2021–2022 aiming to be of aid to more students, teachers, and nonteaching staff of the URSM.

Six III-BTLEd learners conquered the first-ever Mobile Legends Tournament facilitated by the Group of United Technologists on April 14.

Exequiel Soriano (MORPHL1NG), Patrick Carigma (ASERO.), Kenneth Suan (Daddy Chill), Edenson Sison (DENDI), John Paulo Balmonte (GoatMan 로제 ), and Benencio Vismonte (Harley), all from III-BTLEd, teamed up to champion the tournament.

In a best-of-5 final match, they evidently showed their supremacy as they showcased legendary skills in slaying the II-BTVTEd enemies with 3-1 score.

he Educator’s Mathematics Club (EMC) spearheaded a webinar activity, “Trends in Teaching and Learning Mathematics,” via Facebook live and Google Meet on April 14.

Dr. Leni A. Avecilla, Program Head of Bachelor of Secondary Education, delivered the Opening Remarks quoting Henry Ford, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. And anyone who keeps learning stays young.”

“I am sure that he (the speaker) can give you insights on the current trends on teaching

and learning mathematics with the new modalities of teaching and learning the subject,” she said emphasizing the opportunity on learning new ideas.

Mark Jezreel P. Blanquisco, the guest speaker, used the application, Quizizz, for a precursor activity to discuss the challenges of online learning or intended learning such as isolation, lack of motivation in online learners, technical difficulties with online teaching tools, time-consuming resources, and the setting and forgetting online learning activities.

He ended his lecture with his philosophy, “Life is too short to spend it with uncertainty.

When negative thoughts cross the thresholds of your life, just remember that sunshine is just hiding behind dark clouds.”

Niquesa Joy San Juan, Vice-President External of EMC, concluded the webinar with her closing remarks.

“During this pandemic, it looks like impossible to conduct an activity, but here we are proving to everyone, that we can turn impossible things into a possible one. We would like to commend your eagerness to learn new things about mathematics,” she mentioned.

The same goes as what Aristotle, a never-famous Greek Philosopher, said, “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.” Admit it or not, hindrances and barriers will block our way in reaching for that bright future even before these trying times happened . . .,” she said in her essay, “Light up the Torch with a Burning Heart.”

“The hallways of my hope are covered with darkness. I press the switch of time to turn off yesterday, but it only shows the murk of an uncertain tomorrow. If I walk forth, I know that the lurking obstacles will stumble me. The bullet of realization strikes me. This is the hardest battleground to invade — the warfare against darkness,” he expressed in the introduction.

On the other hand, Marylou DC. Riva, finished 3rd Place with her reminiscent entry of the disasters that the Filipinos have battled, “Amidst Challenges, We Stand as One Family,” “The hurdle that we have hard time fighting with is the Pandemic. We are not allowed to leave our houses and do things we used to, people are dying, our economy is drowning with debt, our mental health is damaged, the emotional health is abused, and we are bound to do works and classes at home,” she described.

This literary contest aimed to promote creativity, intelligence, and harmonious relationship among the College of Education learners.

Marthy Austria presented first the introduction and history of Baybayin followed by Nestor Sto. Tomas who taught the participants to write in Baybayin.

ark Jerome Felicidario, the guest speaker, clarified some astronomy misconceptions during the webinar, “Do You Know Me? AstroKNOWme: An Outta-this-World Webinar with Filipino Astronomers,” conducted by the Science Enthusiasts and Environmentalists Society on April 14.

Felicidario showed a documentary video about the UFO sighting in Negros Occidental, and prepared a survey on common astronomical misconceptions to further explain the topic.

Meanwhile, Aldrin Gabuya focused on astrophotography, and advised devices and applications to capture aesthetic and clear astronomy-related photos such as the moon, planets, and the Milky Way with appropriate location, timing, and exposure.

BSE Science learners and faculty joined the webinar through the Google Meet and live streaming on their official Facebook page.

The Science Enthusiasts and Environmentalists (SEES) conducted its first-ever Virtual Science Quiz Bee with the theme, “Gamechangers: Battle of the Scientific Senses in the New Normal,” on March 19.

Leanna Mae Añis, and Andy Lerio, II-BSE Science learners, notched 1st and 2nd Places, respectively.

Jhory Inarda, IIBTVTEd, acquired 3rd Place while James Brian Pagala, III BSE Science, and Mary Rose Calindog, II-Content Courses, received 4th and 5th Places, respectively.

“If you continuously compete with others, you become bitter, but if you continuously compete with yourself, you become better,” said Erl John T. Masunurin, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of this activity. On March 12,

the elimination round took place through the Google Forms that brought nine learners to the final round executed through Google Meet.

This virtual quiz bee aimed to showcase learners’ intellectual skills and competencies in Science, and encourage them to look beyond their knowledge and establish a relationship between theory and application or learning concept and promote Science enthusiasm.

Naniwala silang itinataguyod ng Communist Party of the Philippines ang mga paminggalang-bayan dahilan para magkaroon ng banta sa kaniyang búhay si Ana Patricia Non na nagsimula ng paminggalang-bayan sa Lungsod Quezon na kilala sa bansag na “Maginhawa Community Pantry.”

Bilang pagtutol ng mga mamamayan, bigla-biglang dumami ang mga paminggalangbayan sa iba pang dako ng bansa kasama rin ang ilang tanyag na personalidad.

Kalaunan, ang akusasyon ng NTF na bahagi sila ng makakaliwang grupong laban sa pamahalaan, nawala dahil wala namang lumutang na katibayan.

Gayunman, isang magandang aral ang inihahatid ng bayanihang ito.

Nag-iiwan ng pahayag na dadalhin natin sa hinaharap. “Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha ayon sa pangangailangan.”

By Rowell DS. Ulang Si Tandang Basio Macunat ay isang akdang isinulat ng Kastilang pari na si Prayle Miguel Lucio y Bustamante sa wikang Tagalog at nalathala noong 1885. Ang buong pamagat nito ay “Si Tandang Bacio Macunat Salitang Quinatha ni Fray Miguel Lucio y Bustamante, Religiosong Franciscano.”

Si Padre Miguel Lucio y Bustamante ay isang paring prayle na kabilang sa ordeng Pransiskano. Simula 1880 hanggang 1888, nanilbihin siya bilang kura paroko ng Tanay na dating purok ng Distrito Politico-Militar de Morong (na sakop ngayon ng lalawigang Rizal).

Noong 1989, pinamatnugutan ni Virgilio S. Almario, Pambansang Alagad ng Sining sa Panitikan, ang pagsasalin ng akda sa bagong ortograpiyang Filipino, “Si Tandang Basio Macunat.” Taóng 2019 naman nang isinalin ito sa wikang Ingles ni Leoncio C. Catolos, isang propesor ng University of Rizal System-Morong, at taga-Tanay, Rizal na tagpuan ng akda, “Tandang Basio Macunat, An English Translation.”

Inilahad ng akda ang salaysay ni Gervacio “Basio” Macunat, isang magsasaka, tungkol sa kasaysayan ng isang mayamang pamilya sa paring humimpil sa bayan ng Tanay sa loob ng dalawang linggo. Binasa ni Tandang Basio ang kuwento ng isang mariwasang pamilya sa Tanay na sina Don Andres Baticot (Cabezang Dales), Doña Maria Dimaniuala (Cabezang Angi) at ang dalawa nilang na sina Prospero (Proper) at Felicitas (Pili) na nakabatay sa dokumento ng kaniyang ama. Dumaloy ang katha sa pagkapariwara ni Proper nang pag-aralin siya ng magulang sa Maynila kahit may pagtutol ang kapatid na si Pili. Sa apat na taóng malayò sa pamilya, nagkaroon siya ng maraming utang, at patuloy na bumagsak ang kaniyang mga grado. Nabilanggo rin siya bunsod ng iba't ibang kahangalan at hindi mabayarang utang. Humantong ito sa pagbebenta ng ari-arian ng kaniyang magulang hanggang sa pumanaw ang ama. Muli niyang winaldas ang naiwang pag-aari na sumapit sa pagkakakulong dahil sa mga reklamo. Ipinagbili ulit ni Cabezang Angi ang natitirang ari-arian subalit kulang pa rin upang mapalaya ang anak na namatay raw ayon sa kumalat na balita. Bumalik sa kanilang bayan si Cabezang Angi na humihingi ng limos sa dinaraanang bayan katulad ng Taytay at Binangonan. Paglaon, sumakabilang-búhay rin si Pili na sanhi ng matinding pighati ng ina na tuluyan ding pumanaw.

Ipinahihiwatig ng akdang ito na hindi nararapat magkaroon ng pormal na edukasyon ang mga indio, at ang paghahangad nila nito ang magdadala sa kanila sa sawing kapalaran.
