Ocean Park Hong Kong, as a landmark of the Southern District, is not only a popular entertainment attraction for citizens and tourists but also a vital force in promoting community engagement and conservation. In 2023, Ocean Park launched the innovative conservation advocacy initiative "Mission R", further strengthening its role in conservation and education.

"Mission R" focuses on three core directions: "Saving Species and Habitats," "Eat Local" and "Plastic Challenge." It encourages public participation in conservation and inspires sustainable behaviours in daily life. Among these, the "Eat Local" initiative advocates prioritising fresh, locally grown produce. This not only allows the public to enjoy healthier and higher-quality food but also supports local fisheries and agriculture while reducing the carbon footprint associated with imported food, contributing to carbon neutrality.
Moreover, "Eat Local" is closely intertwined with recreational fishing, allowing citizens and tourists to gain a deeper understanding of local fishing culture and marine ecology. Key efforts include fostering partnerships with the local fishery industry, offering market promotion support, and hosting business forum to collectively strategise the promotion of local fishery and agricultural products and culture. The initiative not only promotes sustainable development but also contributes to the future of ecological conservation in the Southern District and across Hong Kong.

Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong (OPCFHK) have been actively promoting various projects related to marine conservation, including educational workshops, organizing marine cleanup activities, and conducting ecological surveys. These activities not only help improve the marine environment but also raise public awareness of ocean protection.
Sustainable recreational fishing is an important part of protecting marine ecosystems and ensuring that fish resources are not depleted. By implementing fishing seasons and quotas, we can effectively prevent overfishing. Using eco-friendly fishing gear, such as bait and nets, can reduce harm to marine life. In light of this, OPCFHK plans to collaborate with fishermen to hold training sessions and workshops to enhance their knowledge of ecological protection and strengthen their environmental awareness.
OPCFHK is committed to advocating, facilitating and participating in effective conservation of Asian wildlife, with an emphasis on Chinese white dolphins and giant pandas, as well as their habitats, through partnerships, fundraising, research and education. It envisions a world where Asian wildlife remains biologically diverse under the stewardship of humans, corporations and governments.
Since its expansion in 2005, OPCFHK has allocated over HK$112 million to fund 587 research projects on cetaceans, giant pandas and many other species. The themes for 2024/25 include Climate Change, Marine Conservation, and Endangered Terrestrial and Freshwater Wildlife. Whilst continuing the operation of the Marine Mammal Stranding Response Team in Hong Kong since 2006, the Foundation has extended the Stranding Response Programme to threatened species of sharks and rays in 2016. Giant panda conservation efforts were extended from infrastructure rebuilding after earthquake to a threeyear donation commitment to support scientific research, capacity building, as well as education projects being carried out in Sanjiang field station under Sichuan Wolong National Nature Reserve. OPCFHK also participates in the conservation and research of local freshwater turtles.
