MISSION

Create and Discover Beauty

VISION

A Community Empowered by the Arts

Getting the Most Out of Your Experience Making the most of your arts investment is an important goal. To assist you in doing so, we encourage the following: 1. Meet your child's teacher and develop a rapport. Build a partnership that leads to lasting success for your student. 2. Demonstrate a positive attitude about their arts education. If you value it, they will too. 3. Help your child prepare. Make sure they practice and set time aside to prepare each week. Growth requires discipline. The arts provide a perfect training ground for developing this essential life skill. 4. Ask for help if you think your child may need it. Every child learns differently. You know more about your child then your teacher does. Let the teacher know your concerns. If you feel that the class or teacher are not the right fit, we urge you to follow the steps as outlined below. 1. You or your child attend at least three classes as a full participant. 2. As a parent, you observe at least one class. 3. You attempt weekly communication with your child's teacher about the class, its objectives, and how to make the most of the class for you and your child. 4. After those prerequisites have been met and you still are concerned about you or your child's progress, you may request a meeting with the teacher, department director (as applies) and the CEO. After that conversation, the student may be requested to join to give them a chance to detail their concerns. We hope that these opportunities to discover and communicate lead to the best possible outcomes for you, your child, and the teacher.

DANCE INSTRUCTION • The Fine Arts Association dance program offers Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop, Interpretive and African dance. • We welcome dancers as they are and at any level, age, and experience. Utilizing these guiding factors, dancers are placed with intention to ensure safety, achievement, and enjoyment. Students are evaluated annually to continue proper placement relative to program, dancer, and family goals. • Young dancers (ages 7 and under) are offered creative movement and ballet/tap combination classes. These classes provide a foundation of dance terminology and movements. Our instructors will use locomotor and non-locomotor movement to develop and increase coordination and spatial awareness. • Dancers studying in the upper-level classes will develop technical proficiency, style and performance qualities and an overall understanding of the many paths they can pursue dance. • Overall, no matter the age, we provide a safe space for students, to learn, express, grow, unite and have fun. Dance Companies • Edge, Verge and Emerge are FAA's three-tiered dance companies. Dancers audition to join. These dancers will have the opportunity to experience competitions, conventions and many performance opportunities throughout the region. Private Dance Lessons: • Refine your technique with individual attention. Classes are tailored to further develop skills based on individual goals. Contact Customer Experience at (440) 951-7500 for further information. 2024 Dance Recital: • Most Dance classes will participate in our 2024 Dance Recital and there will be additional recital fees. Specific information regarding the recital fees will be emailed in December 2023.

PRIVATE MUSIC INSTRUCTION Recital opportunities • The Fine Arts Association provides regular opportunities for music students to perform in recitals. General recitals are free, and the community is welcome! If you are a music student interested in participating in a general recital, please communicate with your Fine Arts instructor. Suzuki Instruction • Dr. Shinichi Suzuki began to teach music by applying the basic principles of learning language. When learning a language, one listens, speaks, reads and writes, in that order. In the Suzuki approach, the student listens, plays, then reads and writes. • What is different about The Suzuki Method? Visit fineartsassociation.org/education/music to learn more. Adapted Lessons • Available to any student: Our music therapists are available to provide an introduction to independent music lessons, help determine preference for select instruments, teach general music concepts in an engaging way, and foster a love of music learning for even the littlest maestro! Please call for more information and to learn more about our early childhood programming. Contact Ann Marie Raddell, Director of Creative Arts Therapies, at 951-7500 x124 or araddell@fineartsassociation.org for adapted music lessons for children through adults.

FAA has over 500 students of all ages who take private music lessons per year.

THEATRE INSTRUCTION • Theatre students of all ages explore and develop their acting skills through a variety of immersive, hands-on theatre classes. We offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced level classes depending on the student’s age, needs and ability. • Basic techniques include, but are not limited to: vocal projection, diction, memorization, and blocking (stage placement). In advanced classes students will hone their craft, while becoming more comfortable with character choices and development, script analysis, stage presence, and line delivery. • Students with prior training from outside organizations will meet with faculty to determine placement in various programs.

Visual Arts VISUAL ARTS INSTRUCTION In the Visual Arts Department, ALL are welcome, beginners through advanced. Achieve your artistic goals, strengthen your skills, and give your creativity wings.

Helpful Art Department Information: A perfect start to art with Early Childhood Classes A wonderful place to develop creativity, coordination, cognitive, and multisensory skills. A variety of class options are available for children ranging from 2-6 years old. Due to classes using many different art supplies, we suggest enrollment in visual art classes for those children who no longer explore by putting items in their mouth. This applies to ALL visual art classes.

Preschool Art Time in EUCLID & PAINESVILLE: flexible days & times! Interested in trying Visual Art with your child ages 2-6 and looking for a convenient option? Art classes are available at our Euclid and Painesville locations offering flexible dates and start times. Simply purchase 3 classes for $48 and use them on the dates of your choice during the day/time period for that location. Join us any time between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. (we suggest a minimum of at least 25 minutes of class time). Classes are designed with an open format that is focused on valuable art processes to grow early childhood skills! More classes can be purchased at any time during the session. FAA Euclid - Mondays: 1/22/24 - 5/20/24 FAA Painesville - Fridays: 2/2/24 - 5/24/24

Ceramics The Art Department proudly features an extensive variety of classes that focus on working with clay for ALL ages 3 and up. Adult Ceramics and Clay Studio (Adult) have an additional clay fee of $15 per bag. Clay can be purchased at Customer Experience. Note: Only ceramics projects completed on-site during class at The Fine Arts Association will be fired using FAA equipment.

Creative Painting & Drawing, Art Club and Focus on Drawing Classes All art classes can be taken repeatedly by the same student; artists will strengthen skills each session. Classes are all numbered based on age not skill. Art Club: Large variety of drawing and painting media. Has elements of threedimensional crafting such as air-dry clay, decoupage, painting on fabric, or sculptural creations. Creative Painting and Drawing: Includes a large variety of drawing and painting media only. Focus on Drawing: Includes a large variety of drawing media only.

Adult Painting Classes Enjoy our warm, welcoming studio environment and grow those skills! Students bring their own supplies. Bring the following to each class: • A photo or image you are interested in using as inspiration for your painting • An 11x14 canvas • The following acrylic paint colors: cerulean blue, white, ultramarine blue, violet, burnt sienna, sap green, viridian, red, paynes gray, any color orange, any dark yellow. • An assortment of paintbrushes: ½” flat, 1” flat, ½” filbert, a fine brush for details, ¼” flat, #6 round (make sure they say “for acrylic paint” in the description). If you have additional paintbrushes, feel free to bring them. • Kneadable eraser • Something to use as a palette • A toolbox to keep it all in

Textiles: Sewing, Quilting and Crochet Classes ALL LEVELS WELCOME in ALL TEXTILES CLASSES. No Experience is required. Those who have experience will still benefit from growing their skills and learning new techniques. See course descriptions for more details. Sewing for Fun (ages 9-12) -- No additional supplies needed. Beginning Crochet (ages 12-15) -- No additional supplies needed. Beginning Quilting for Adults (ages 18+) -- Some supplies are provided. Students will get a supply list on the first day of class. Students are required to bring their own sewing machine. Machines are available to rent at FAA for $30 per session. A Message from our Chief Executive Officer Paul Holm An experience in the arts is like no other. At once, creativity, perseverance, empathy, deliberation, growth, dedication, contemplation, discovery, and community coexist. The arts make us better humans: better able to explore, express, question, think critically, and appreciate the beauty within and around us. At The Fine Arts Association, we are privileged to partner with you to create and discover art and all of these other human attributes under one roof. The possibilities are endless. No matter your age, experience, or aptitude, there is space here for you to create and grow.
