This position will be engaged in managing all daily activities/processes related to raising, testing, and selecting animals, in accordance with protocols and procedures established by the Company and its customer. The position will lead a Team of 5 people and be engaged in recruiting, hiring, training, leading, planning, managing, coaching and mentoring.

This will also include the administration of all personnel-related functions, such as performance reviews, attendance, and disciplinary situations.

The Site Leader will establish and maintain open communication with all farm staff, production manager, veterinarians and the management team.

This position will be responsible to monitor and maintain appropriate ventilation and room environments, as well as responsible for timely and accurate reporting of records. Finally, this position will ensure strict adherence to all established biosecurity principles.

HOW THE POOR FOLKS ARE DOING While reviewing some of my Christmas poetry in preparation for my performance, and found this one which I believe I’ll recite.

I wrote this poem several years ago while trying to work on my annual Christmas letter. I was looking out from my living room window and this is where my thoughts led me and those thoughts still hold true today.

I feel honored to have been asked to perform some of my Christmas poetry at what is fast becoming one of South Dakota’s most popular Christmas events, the Black Hills Cowboy Christmas Concerts and Dance, to be held at the historic Homestake Opera House in Lead, on December 9. I’ll be joining cowboy singer, Paul Larson; fiddler, Kenny Putnam; singers and musicians such as Boyd Bristol, Jami Lynn, Chet Murrey, the Wilt Brothers Band; Sarah Carlson; Allen & Jill Kirkham, and fellow poets Robert Dennis and Chuck Larsen. This is like an all-star lineup of the best western entertainers in the Tri-State area, so you can understand why I feel honored to be included. “The true spirit of Christmas is felt in this show,” according to director Paul Larson, “and the concert will be soulful and fulfilling, followed by a down-home country Christmas dance.”

HOW THE POOR FOLKS ARE DOING I was writing my Christmas letter and while gathering up my thoughts, I thought of all my blessings and I sure counted a lot.

I started writing some of them to spread my Christmas cheer, but put down my pen and wondered “how the poor folks are doing this year.”

I always write about the grandkids; we think they’re awfully sweet.

They like our country style of life and to them it can’t be beat.

about how good they’ve made our economy. …it don’t look too good out here.

But from here I stop and wonder “how the poor folks are doing this year.”

They like to help with the cooking and go with the men feeding hay; but I wonder as I think about them, “how the poor folks are doing today.”

Well, a cold front came in yesterday and we got some snow last night.

Those trees down the lane look so pretty all covered with snow, frosty white.

They live in a big, crowded city, in a high pressure style of life; working a job that they hate every day and drowning their sorrows at night.

A hawk circles over the meadow as the cattle graze quietly by; a soft breeze is turning the windmill against a cold morning’s gray winter sky.

Of course, they make real big money and out here our income is small; but by putting a price on the good life, we really aren’t poor after all.

I feel blessed as I gaze from my window and thank God for the good life out here; it’s then that I stop and wonder “how the poor folks are doing this year.”

Though sometimes the ag economy will hit an all-time low, and expenses will hit an all-time high as the politicians blow
