LETTER FROM THE
HEAD OF SCHOOL MORGAN B. SCOVILLE, M.Ed
Fay Family, The 2019-2020 school year ended up being a year we will never forget because it was a year that revealed how innovative and truly student-centered Fay’s approach to building and educating the world’s future leaders. Your children directly benefitted from these highlights during the 2019-2020 school year: • I n August, we launched an ambitious and inclusive strategic planning process to secure the long-term health of the school. • I n September, your children began enjoying the first-ever Engineering Program and Maker’s Space in the school’s history. • I n October and November, the Fifth Grade Leaders designed and executed our two Admission Open Houses by leveraging design thinking frameworks from Stanford University’s Design Thinking School and their collective emotional intelligence. • In January, we welcomed Tim Fish, Chief Innovation Officer at the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), to campus to meet with Faculty and Staff, parents, students, and the Board of Trustees to discuss how independent schools are innovating in response to the ever-evolving landscape of education.

• I n early February, we announced that The Fay School would be getting chickens!
• I n mid-May, we introduced the Fay Chickens to your children with this hilarious video.
• I n late February, during the 2020 NAIS Annual Conference, NAIS publicly acknowledged that The Fay School would send a representative to serve as a member on the 2021 NAIS Annual Conference Think Tank (page 91).
• In June, The Fay School offered a June Term at no cost to families to keep your child learning, to provide predictability in your home life at a time of unprecedented uncertainty, and to keep improving and innovating in our online learning offerings so that your child would have the best educational opportunities no matter the circumstance that the fall 2020 season brought us.
• I n early March, members of the faculty treated All Staff to a Soul Food Luncheon that further enhanced our cultural competency while celebrating Black History Month. • In mid-March, Third Grade Leaders leveraged the Writer’s Workshop model from Teachers College at Columbia University to draft persuasive proposals on how The Fay School could best leverage the newly named Fay Forest. These authentic and creative proposals were formally presented to members of the Leadership Team for consideration and adoption. • I n late March, The Fay School showcased its nimbleness and flexed its innovation muscle by quickly and effectively pivoting to interactive online learning when most schools could only send home packets and offer brief check-ins with teachers. • I n early April, we finished installing a new climbing wall in the play space that was made possible by lead gifts from the Gole (William ’22 and Lachlan ’24) and Gordy (Rio ’21) families. We established Fay Farms which includes both Fay’s Chicken Coop and new raised-bed gardens so that your children have even more engaging and authentic learning experiences.
By all accounts, Fay’s vision of deliberately building and educating the future leaders of the world thrived in the 2019-2020 school year! Your child benefited from innovation, student-centered experiences, and unmatched leadership development through emotional intelligence. Together, the Fay Family built significant momentum throughout the year because of our collective strength, the faculty and staff’s dedication, and the shared belief that our daily and annual efforts will empower your child to lead in the future. Looking ahead,
Morgan B. Scoville, M. Ed.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am extremely proud to be involved with The Fay School during a year of innovation and creativity that did not waiver in the face of unprecedented challenges. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March interrupted a year that had already seen several significant successes, including an Annual Fund campaign that exceeded its target and was supported by 98% of families, and completion of the first phase of a strategic planning process to set the school up for success for years to come. With the sudden transition to online learning in March, we saw The Fay School truly rise to the moment. The Online Learning Program demonstrated Fay’s innovation culture, as well as its deep commitment, including the offering of a June term at no cost to families. No matter the challenges, Fay is finding a way to educate the next generation of leaders for our world. The support and flexibility of our Fay Family as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic has been heartening. Our community is strengthened by the generosity, empathy, and commitment of our entire Fay Family. I want to express our gratitude for your unwavering support. This was demonstrated in both good times and the most challenging times. Every family contributes to the strength of The Fay School. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for your investment in The Fay School. Your enthusiasm and commitment allows Fay to meet the future and shape our children into the future leaders of the world. I am pleased to work with you, our Board, and all within the Fay community as we champion Fay into the future.
Thank you,
Omar Samji

Since 1991, The Fay School has thrived because of the strong bond between the school and our extended Fay Family. Community engagement is a pillar for any school’s success, and the 2019-2020 school year was no exception. Our strong and devoted Parents’ Club, led by Co-Chairs Sabrina Colgin and Jennifer Kane, paved the way for frequent opportunities for parent involvement on campus to support the school, its programs, and most importantly, your children. The Fay School experience is enhanced by this devoted group of moms and dads whose impact goes far. The strength of our community was put on display throughout the challenges of the second semester but proved to be a cornerstone of our school. The volunteer efforts shown in our community the 2019-2020 school year were evident in everything from the Halloween Carnival, a successful Book Fair, to a dedicated group of parents that kept our campus vibrant with decorations throughout the year. Our Outdoor Education committee spent time supporting our efforts to extend our experiences in The Fay Forest. And, even though the Gala was pivoted last minute to an online platform, the many parents that spent hours pouring efforts into building an incredible event proved to strengthen our community and the relationships within. Philanthropy at Fay during the last year also showed extremely high support. Our 2019-2020 Annual Fund, led by Debbey and Glenn Guy, reached a family participation rate of 98%, far above the national average of 66%. Again, this participation rate showed the strength of the Fay Community and allowed Fay to focus even more on the educational experiences and outcomes of our most valuable asset: your children.
The success of the 2019-2020 Annual Fund continued to drive the spirit of innovation on campus with future-focused projects and new opportunities for students. The success also allowed us to continue realizing our mission. These unrestricted funds supported a wide variety of needs. In a typical year, The Fay School’s Annual Fund allows Fay to enhance professional development, add new technology upgrades, support new programs, update curricula, and more. Our remarkable hybrid learning advancements and online strategies were mostly successful due to our community’s sacrificial giving. Our commitment to a lifelong love of learning through an active partnership among educators, parents, and students is made evident through the Annual Fund – our donors’ giving is how Fay grows. As we reflect on the last school year and the challenges we faced, our community’s strength allowed Fay to ensure that our vision of deliberately creating the future leaders of the world remains a reality for generations to come. We are deeply grateful for your support and partnership. Sincerely,
Monica Berckley Director of Advancement

HONORING IT IS WITH GREAT PRIDE THAT WE HONOR OUR FOUNDER, MARIE FAY EVNOCHIDES, AND THOSE WHO CONTINUE TO STAND BEHIND HER VISION FOR FAY.
Thirty years ago, The Fay School opened its doors and began a journey that would touch the lives of all who entered. The founding Head of School, Marie Fay Evnochides, envisioned “a place where children come first.” Today, that vision reverberates in all that we do, creating an environment unlike any other — a special place made possible due to our unwavering commitment to children and families. In the school’s 20th year, we were incredibly proud to announce the formation of the Marie Fay Evnochides Society. Named for our visionary founder, the Society has been created to permanently recognize Annual Fund supporters who have made The Fay School a philanthropic priority. Members of the Marie Fay Evnochides Society are those who have made lifetime, cumulative gifts to The Fay School Annual Fund of $25,000 or more. They exemplify Marie’s vision and their support ensures that The Fay School continues to impact young lives. Please find the names of the Marie Fay Evnochides Society members to the right.

AS FAY ANNUAL FUND COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS FOR SEVERAL YEARS BEFORE UNDERTAKING THE CHAIR POSITIONS, WE WERE
ALWAYS AMAZED AT THE INCREDIBLE “EXTRAS” THAT ANNUAL FUND WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE FAY STUDENTS. FROM WATCHING TEACHERS BRING BACK VALUABLE TOOLS LEARNED AT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS TO CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY BEING IMPLEMENTED IN THE CLASSROOM TO MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS ON OUR ALREADY AMAZING OUTDOOR CAMPUS, WE KNEW A SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL FUND WAS THE KEY TO SOLIDIFYING FAY’S TOP NOTCH POSITION WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY.”
